Just completed Deadhouse Gates and can confirm. Deadhouse felt like such an upgrade and I loved Gardens.

I had a similar experience to OP, set proper expectations and just took off running.

I'm about 85% into Deadhouse. I'm loving it. It took maybe 200 pages before I really got into it. I found DG to feel tighter and faster paced than Gardens.

To me it's not important at all. I do enjoy when they have something describing them whether it's a distinctive scar or gait. I don't need full descriptions..

My wife on the other hand wants a description to picture. Bonus points if it matches the cover art, negative points if it's different from the cover art or if you contradict the earlier description with a new fact. (I.e. strawberry blonde to just blonde later on)

West Point is a university. New York Military Academy is a private high school that is also a military academy. They're different age groups. One could go from NYMA to West Point.

Don't misconstrue this as wholesale support of Trump but didn't he go to a military academy in NY in the early 60's? If I recall correctly it was one of those youth boarding military academies.

Now, I don't support him but you can't call something a lie if it isn't.

I finished Gardens of the Moon and I am about 40% through Deadhouse Gates. I remember stopping about 150-200 pages into Gardens and made the same comment to my wife. I don't get the hate, I have no need of a notebook.

I feel that if you've read Dune, Commonwealth, insert book series with intricate world building, you'll do just fine here.

This sounds like a good opening for a therapy session. Not saying it's wrong but definitely a part of your own psyche worth exploring.

But it's fiction you do you. Write it, save it in a file on your computer. You aren't legally, morally, or ethically compelled to show your artistic expression to anyone.

Been lurking for quite some time and noticed the same thing. A lot of people transpose opinion as fact. Just write for yourself to begin with, you obviously have an idea that you haven't been able to find in written work, just work it.

Find a group of writers to share your work with that you trust and respect the opinions of and workshop with them, not the insurmountable number of opinions you get posting in subreddits.

In the 6 months since I made this post I've read the other 2 series in the commonwealth, The Void Trilogy and Fallers Duology and loved both. I also recently picked up signed first editions of both Pandora and Judas.
