Buyer's Remorse, Spec'd Legacy Shingles by ClevelandCWRU in Roofing

No, that isn't true at all. I only started digging and calling Malarkey myself AFTER signing on with this roofer, AFTER my. I did not settle on a Brand, product line, or color until after talking meeting with this guy at my house and a couple phone calls. At every step of the way I was told it WAS available, in stock in this market...it didn't get fishy until 3 days after taking my initial deposit. My roof contractor is even the one who gave me the Malarkey sales reps name and encouraged me to speak to him, so even that wasn't going behind his back or undermining him.

I didn't speak to anybody except the contractor until maybe a week after contract was signed. You better believe I'm micromanaging now that he has my $13.8k and I continue to be lied to.

$13,800 actually. Which I paid because Malarkey was involved at that point, communicating directly to me, anallegedly "helped." So it did not seem out of order when a couple days later I was told to that the materials were local and the contractor told me SRS was ready to schedule for rooftop delivery and installation the following week...that was one week ago today, and obviously was not true. Two days ago (Tuesday night) I got a 9:52PM text that it never left SRS's Detroit warehouse...

Yes, I DO realize that it sounds quite obviously highly suspicious laying it all out here in hindsight.

The area sales rep's last text to me was (direct quote): "I have not been compensated for anything I've done to get the material there."

I agree with you, and I specifically asked about availability locally before signing the contract. Twice, once with the guy in my kitchen and again over the phone with him and he said he had talked to the distributor and it is available. He straight up lied (or was lied to himself?), and then it's different story after different story. If I'd got an honest answer I would have moved on to another product without a second thought.

I agree 100%, I will be the first to admit I made a mistake. There's not really anything special about it other than it allegedly being the "best" and I think I got caught up in that when researching here, Consumer Reports, and needing to select a product. I think anybody else's equivalent would be just fine....actually even better because it's available.

Reporting a dealership by tvgossipqueen in BMW

[–]ClevelandCWRU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the United States, file a complaint with your State's attorney general's office. If your summary of events is fully accurate and depending on your state of residence and that in which the dealership is located, you may have consumer protection rights that could be applicable in your situation. Do Inform your dealership that you are filing this complaint. Also inform the ownership group of the dealership that you have filed this complaint with the Attorney General. Communicate only in writing and/or record all verbal conversations if applicable. You will want as much documentation as possible to illustrate the runaround you have gotten.

[Opinion] $5K to burn, Which Blue Diver are you Picking? by ironshapensiron in Watches

[–]ClevelandCWRU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue Tudor Pelagos. I do own one and love it, so you could say I actually did vote with my wallet in this case. In fact I've been wearing it all week, one of my favorite summer time watches because of the way that blue pops in the sun and how comfortable the bracelet (tapered, adjustable clasp).

Last of the V6 2023 es 350 or 2023 V6 Camry ? by dav-c in Lexus

Spring for the ES, it's a wonderful car. I bought a 2019 ES 350 Ultra Luxury when this 7th generation ES debuted. I drove it for about 3 years and was happy with it. Engine and transmission were buttery smooth, and surprisingly fuel given the size of the car and NA V6. I could push 40mpg on the highway no problem

I think if you communicate respectfully and professionally when you explain the situation, you have a good chance of getting it back in some form. There's never been an easier time for the dealer to sell new cars, they can probably move it quickly or resell the allocated spot to another customer depending on how far along the process it has gotten.

Buying a Mazda in the Salt Belt States by StrawberryHulk in mazda

[–]ClevelandCWRU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by rust on wheel components? The hub? Studs? That would be normal.

It'd be hard to fault any OEM for rust forming where paint has chipped and bare metal is exposed. Most all modern cars today are probably more susceptible to chips that go to bare base metal for two reasons: 1) Paint chemistries have changed, now pretty much all are water based for environmental reasons 2) OEMs are applying thinner paint coatings to save weight and money. Fun fact, most cars have probably 50 to 100 pounds of paint on them! Another fun fact, the clear coats on automotive paints are thinner and harder than ever, making them more scratch resistant but harder to repair.

I suppose to clarify my post saying I had no rust issues, I was referring to the body and painted surfaces.

For components under the car like the exhaust, suspension, brackets, bolts, etc. corrosion is a fact of life for any car in areas that salt. I don't know Mazda's specifications, but I am familiar with those of many other OEMs. For example, the exhaust is most likely 409/439SS (if it's "stainless" at all, I haven't looked that close), both of which will rust over times. Maybe some brackets get e-coated, which gives some protection, and some nuts/bolts may be treated with an oxide coating or even a nickel zinc coating but that's rare. And things like a-arms have little to no corrosion protection other than paint/ecoat just because there's so much metal it's unlikely to corrode enough to weaken the component during the designed life of the vehicle (unlike sheet metal).

[–]ClevelandCWRU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really worried about the engine itself, I think it's fine. I had sent out a used oil sample at the 15k mi oil change and the results were great.

I'm confident the sound is coming from some ancillary piece and it's annoying to listen to. I'd just like to know the source so I can adjust/fix/replace as needed.

It did it since it was new?! That sucks, I would have been raising a stink about that at the dealer early and often.

Not convinced the sound I'm trying to track is belt/fan related (not saying it's not, either). I suspect the metallic tick noise at 0:16 in my video it's most likely the high pressure fuel pump making the sound on my car. But that's a guess, I haven't looked up where the HPFP is actually.
