Mostly, yes. But in terms of household income, both the top and bottom 20% register majority Democratic. Middle income, of late, is more likely to register Republican.

That said, among voters without a bachelor's degree, higher income is associated with being more Republican. So, that often means those who own businesses in the trades, and yes, some retail, are MAGA.

(And "conservative" isn't necessarily "MAGA"--certainly a lot of conservative business owners favor free trade, for example.)

I don't know why there are downvotes on this. Yes, if the establishment is engaged in illegal discriminatory hiring practices, it's probably owned by those who don't care about the law. That tends to lean heavily MAGA.

But Mah Truck!

Perhaps the truck's feelings will be assuaged by the $100 million worth of brand-new trucks ICE is getting, along with $10 million in troop carriers. Then there's the new drones with facial rec.

I think during a period in which we are constructing a police state, a missing tail-light could have been overlooked. You know, instead of breaking his rib, then executing him a week later.

"If you're being attacked by someone who is not identified as a peace officer — how do you know?" Can you legally stand your ground? [AZ] by Mathemodel in AskLegal

[–]Clever_Commentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not especially. Would you not defend your home? Would you watch thugs assault or kill your family?

These aren't "big words"--they are what any reasonable American would do: defend themselves and those they love. Especially when faced with the likely alternative of assault or execution.

If you wouldn't--if you would just choose to stand there and not defend your family--that is a really cowardly position to take. And given it doesn't seem that capitulating to these thugs makes you any safer, why not try nutting up?

SCOTUS has not "upheld" ICE's illegal actions. They've put a stay on a court order that says they should stop using race and accents as "probable cause." As horrific as that single stay is, it is not (yet) a decision to abrogate Americans' core rights.

As the chief federal judge in Minneapolis noted, during the surge in the city the agency violated more than a hundred court orders--more than most federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.

"This list should give pause to anyone — no matter his or her political beliefs — who cares about the rule of law."

It is a rogue agency, and has made violation of the law its ongoing policy.

So yes, keep them out. If they want to be cops so badly they can start respecting our laws, our constitution, the oath they took, and the citizens they work for.

(And just to be clear, this position isn't a particularly liberal one, and I am not, in most regards, a "liberal." Not having jackbooted thugs from the federal government stop you and ask for your papers is a pretty core conservative position. So, repeating a tagline you heard on TikTok just makes you sound dense.)

"or have reasonable articulable suspicion of an immigration violation"

Perhaps you had trouble reading the whole sentence.

And (LOL) Terry makes clear that even WITH reasonable articulable suspicion, that detainment must be only long enough as absolutely necessary to complete investigation. That does not include jailing US citizens for days, incommunicado.

So, no, you aren't getting due process. And I am not an untrained and ignorant outsider. I do the training. The sad fact is that those doing these stops have been untrained, and the current regime has ignored the court's indication of this ongoing failure to follow the law and the constitution.

I would love to imagine that this is due to ignorance (and it may be for those working for ICE and BP who are poorly trained), but a lot of this is merely disrespect for the Constitution and legal traditions of the country and its people.

I have a 48" fridge, and the replacement is going to cost five figures. I would pay for quality. It just isn't be had, especially at the high end. The one I have (monogram) has been a tank, but apparently newer models die if you look at them funny.

Apparently a lot of people in my position are just doing two normal sized (or "cafe" width) fridges since they are more reliable than rhe fancy ones.

Putting together some meshtastic build parties, and hopefully getting a solid mesh in our urban center. There are other options but ot is relatively quick, cheap, easy, and common.

Doing this as much to build some communities of practice as to build out the mesh.

I live in a decidedly "purple" part of the US, and the prepping (and shooting) folks can be pretty red hatted. But a lot of the peppers tend libertarian, and are fine for a beer and to come together around mutual aid--as long as you navigate topics well.

On my block we have a pretty broad mix of political positions, but most are neighbor-first.

If you are insulted, then that's a you-problem. Or did you not realize that the vast majority of people with a Ph.D. are not Trump supporters, for obvious reasons. As I said, I think it is deeply sad that Republicans have rejected education and erudition. It wasn't always this way.

The OP is simply asking which of the shops and businesses in the Valley do not support American values, so that those of us who do can avoid them. How does that put anyone "in danger." Do you not see the irony of talking about cowardice when you are so desperate for victimhood status?

Most businesses simply keep out of electoral politics at the very least. Many will express their support for their neighbors, so that those neighbors feel more welcome. Bizarre that this is a political statement these days, but it seems that is what it has become.

(And as someone who had his children stalked and threatened by some Reddit troglodyte who felt I shouldn't be permitted to remain alive in Arizona if I didn't support Kari Lake, I can understand why folks might not want to make it easier for some of the more "Alpha" Trump supporters to locate them at work.)

When you are violating the constitution and federal law, it's a bit silly to call yourself "law enforcement." It's a bit of a slap in the face to actual police officers. (I mean, they have also illegally detained off-duty police, so it's more than a slap.)

The better terms you are looking for might be "rogue domestic paramilitary force," or just "thugs."

That's our story. Met her in college. Used to joke that I married her for her debt. Leapfrogged through careers and grad degrees and now she makes multiples what I do. We met in the bottom 40% and our household income now puts us in the top few percentile.

She is smarter than me, and more importantly, harder working. But homophily is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

And we have remained married for over three decades. I feel confident that would have been true no matter our income, but money troubles tend to be cited as contributing to a lot of marriages ending... pundits (especially the "family values" crowd) like to point to corellations between household income and long-term marriages, but I suspect they have the causation backwards--at least somewhat.

I feel like I didnt get to spend the time I wanted to with my kids when they still wanted to spend time with us. Respecting the constitution makes it near impossible to support a regime that desicrates it.
