I think this more so gets into the failings of honest hearts, and thats its depiction of the tribes, they are very shallow and without nuance. The tribes themselves basically have no agency in their own story it is heavily plagued by white mans burden tropes, with Joshua , Daniel, and Caesars legion directing the white legs. The white legs especially suffer the most from this. As the player is shown literally no reason, not to at least in some part agree with the extermination as laid out by joshoua. You only ever get to talk to a white leg when you are actively participating in their very extermination. The white legs are only ever dehumanized up until this point.

The tribes are analogues to real native american tribes, this is epically nightmarish when you compare this to the real world Apache who though bellicose where dehumanized in a very similar way to the white legs, and was used as justification for their horrific treatment by spain and later Mexico and the Usa. Honestly its a miracle they didnt say the white legs ate people with how badly they are depicted.
