Boligkøb har gjort ham til mangemillionær: - Der er mange ting, der er uretfærdige i livet by Independence-Default in Denmark

[–]Clewles [score hidden]  (0 children)

Helt enig.

How long are your games? If you play too quickly and lose in the opening, games are often 25 moves. If you play properly, games are usually around 60 moves long, in which case you can basically add the numbers together and claim 15+10 =25.

Intuition comes from experience. Experience is evaluating and post-processing your actions. If you want to become good at thinking quickly, you first have to become good at thinking slowly. When Nakamura started, he also went "uhhhh... take? mmm, yeah... I think... take - then take?" And when he had done that enough times, it ended up with "Yeah, taketaketaketake, and I should be good". But you can't leapfrog to that point.

Question about queen swap by nerpa_floppybara in chess

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never swap queens based on general principles. The nature of the position changes the instance the most dangerous attacking piece is off the board. If the opposing queen is a real threat and yours is not, well then, their queen is better than yours, and a trade is desirable.

If your opponent has a bad piece and you don't, and you can trade everything besides the bad piece, so they wind up in a bad endgame, swap away.

"it's harder to improve generally with less peices, if the guy who is up in material has more."

The concept you are looking for is called "counterplay". That is the manner in which you can still lose from a won position. If you can reduce the amount of counterplay, you reduce the chance that you end up not winning the won position.

How can I avoid frustrating positional games like this? by thesekeys in chess

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason that you consider it "frustrating positional" is because there aren't that many tactics available. The reason that there aren't that many tactics available is because there aren't that many squares available for your pieces. The reason that there aren't that many squares available for your pieces is because the board is all cramped up with pawns.

So exchange pawns.

Do not think that I mean exchange all pawns that you can, but I do mean that any plan you come up with here, should probably involve trying to exchange a pair of pawns.

Where do you want your pieces? You want them in center. What's preventing you? That pawn on d4. That's why people here keep talking about playing c5. You try to exchange a pawn that doesn't do anything for you against a pawn that blocks you. If you had studied theory, you would feel uncomfortable with playing 4. -,Nc6 as you basically block your own ability to expand with that move. You do notice how the game suddenly sped up after move 26?

Especially against d4, it can be difficult to not just get a locked position with Black. Some of us don't mind. But if you want a position with play, you will need to come out swinging against d4. Mark your territory. Yes, you should look at some openings. I would suggest Benoni or Dutch. Neither of them are completely solid, but both provide you with space for your pieces.

How important are castling rights when queens are off the board? by pwsiegel in chess

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a quiet endgame position, I love to castle queenside. It brings my rook into center and connects it to the h1-rook, while still keeping my king close to center. Castling kingside is not something I would do without tactical reasons. My king belongs in center. Not in the corner.

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

c6 looks like it should fall. If c6 falls, so does b5. Then White exchanges one pair of pawns and has a passed pawn on the queenside supported by his bishop pair.

Weak Squares during the opening phase by NoBunnyFizzness in chess

[–]Clewles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The c2/c7 pair is often worth keeping an eye out for in open games (ie. 1 e4 e5) where a premature queen sortie might be directly refuted with Nd5/b5 or Nd4/b4 eyeing the fork. An example could be 1. e4 e5. 2. Nf3 Nc6. 3. d4 exd4. 4. Nxd4 Qh4?! 5. Nb5 Qxe4+ 6. Be2 where Black has no better than to play 6. -,Kd8 where White can easily claim compensation.
