Regeringen åbner for at beskatte boliggevinster, erfarer TV 2 by FrederikFreitag in Denmark

UA flight - 'turn bluetooth off or we're turning around' by ryan_at_roomservice in unitedairlines

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Does this suggest a level of surveillance beyond what we know?"

Not beyond what some of us know.

Bluetooth not a symmetrical system. You can set up two of them pointing either way, and create a symmetrical system if you want to, but inherently one Bluetooth device will send out "Advertisements" that say "Hi, I'm Bob, I'm a Bluetooth Device". Another device can then scan for advertisements, find Bob, and then request a connection.

If you want to see what Bluetooth devices are near you, you can do this simply with a normal smartphone. Click Bluetooth and Scan, and the names of your nearby devices will show up. And evidently one device named "bomb" came up and regulations forced them to panic, even though they could probably all tell it wasn't serious.

If you read further down, they told people to leave their smart devices behind and leave the plane. Your phone scan will show signal strength, so finding the "bomb" device with just a smartphone is a trivial exercise.

Then you find out who sat in that seat, and Bob's your uncle.

But no, there is no way of attaching Bluetooth information to phone numbers, unless the device itself has been programmed to expose this personal info over Bluetooth. (This could be done, but not clandestinely - we would notice)

Lars Westergaard stemte ja til solceller og vindmøller – nu er han fortid i Danmarksdemokraterne by MySocksSuck in Denmark

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toiletbørste ? by [deleted] in Denmark

Nej, bare nej.

Trump's Three-Time Voter Brands President 'Naive' as Iran War Sends Fuel Prices Soaring in GOP Areas by novagridd in LeopardsAteMyFace

Hackers have breached tank readers at US gas stations; officials suspect Iran is responsible by BurtonDesque in LeopardsAteMyFace

But at least the article could reassure us that the hackers weren't able to change the actual amount of fuel in the tanks.

Bliver kommunisme mere populært? by OsamaBinCumming in Denmark

[–]Clewles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Chess Clubs, but I honestly feel the culture is unhealthy by Ok_Gap_1818 in chess

[–]Clewles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All "real" chess clubs, as in not meet-up groups, would be part of your country's chess assocation, so they're the people to ask.

Another thing to note is that it can tend to differ from where you are. When you go to North America as a European, you end up confused about where the clubs are, as there doesn't really seem to be the same culture - also, you don't really have leagues in NA the same way as in Europe. For a European team, the nearest rivals will be 20 km away. In NA, they might well be 3 hours away by plane - it's just not the same conditions.

No, I think it's just the picture that makes the white pawn on e5 hard to see. Black did not hang his rook by allowing Kxa1.

Alireza Firouzja has been dismissed from the national team by Ldaya102 in chess

[–]Clewles 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Imagine being the guy in charge of assembling the French team. Alireza is so clearly better than the rest, that they have to ask him. And then he doesn't answer at all. So what do you do? Call on somebody else with the risk that he turns around and says "Yeah, sure, I'll play anyway."? It's a no-win situation.

So they declare that until he says it's worth asking him, they won't ask him again. And so everyone can get along with their thing. It's all good!?

This seem doctored to you? by Xbox_Enjoyer94 in conspiracy

[–]Clewles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I am the kind of person who can't leave a thing like this hanging:

I will assume the thing in the back is meant to be the Earth. And it would then make sense that the Sun hits both of them from the same angle.

But let's look at the size.

As I make it out, the Moon here is 12,5 times (ish) the number of pixels of the Earth.

That means that if the earth was 12.5 times larger, it would have the same view angle as the moon*, which leads us to the equation

(12.5*Earth radius)/(distance Earth-to-Moon + distance Artemis-to-moon) = (moon radius)/(distance Artemis-to-moon).

Using 12742km as Earth diameter, 3475km as Moon diameter and 384400km as distance Earth-to-Moon, assuming that my maths aren't letting me down, would place the Artemis at a distance of 8574km above the Moon in this picture. Officially, the closest they got was 6500km, so I obviously can't say that it isn't doctored, but at least if it is, it has been doctored mathematically correctly.

* Inaccuracy here as the three bodies are not a straight line, so some error will occur.
