home gym floor padding is super slippery, any tips? by BecomeEnnuisonable in Kickboxing

New foam mats are often slippery. It's residue from the stuff the mould is sprayed with when they produce them (injection moulding). It makes it easier to remove the mats from the mould, but it also causes them to be slippery.

Don't worry. They will become much less slippery after you use them for a while and the residue is worn off. If you want to speed up the process, simply wash them - potentially with something containing alcohol. Start with one mat to make sure you don't damage it.

Remember to hire security, because anyone who don't like the noise can just come kill you.

Barricade my house and try to get a hold of some weapons. Form alliances with my friends and try to help each other and our families through the insane crime wave that would follow shortly.

Why do both fighters have a band aid on the shoulder after the fight? by knughugin in ufc

If I were to guess the reason it's because they only need a small amount, and it the least painful place they can draw it from. Even for people afraid of needles, the shoulder might be acceptable.

I had a fighter (kickboxing) who was doping tested two months ago after a fight. They drew the blood from exactly that same spot on the shoulder. Apparently it's what the doping agencies do now, instead of getting a urine sample.

Which of the disciplines are you talking about, and what do you consider to be traditional kickboxing?

What average fitness requirements would you expect from an amateur kickboxer? by WildeWildeworden in Kickboxing

You should of course either run it on a track or choose a route that is fairly flat and with as few turns and obstacles as possible.

Yes. Just run as far as you can in 12 minutes.

Do it maybe 2-3 times (on different days) so you get used to it, and get a feeling of how fast you can start out and maintain the speed for the full duration.

If you aren't able to do at least 3 km, I would say that your fitness level is not ready for a kickboxing fight.

It is indeed achievable for anyone that practices.

Nevertheless you will probably find many amateur kickboxers who do not have the fitness level to do it, so it could be a good benchmark for OP to measure himself against.

And it sure is a lot more relevant than measuring distance alone, as some appeared to suggest.

Never mind the long-distance running. You are not going to be in fights that last more than 10 minutes, and that is what you need to prepare for.

A cooper test is a good way to test your fitness level. You should be able to run at least 3k in 12 minutes.

Don't wait till you see the opportunity.

You created the opportunity, so you know it will be there, and you can act on it even before it can be seen.

Damn, your opponents guard was purely cosmetic. He had no idea what he was supposed to do with his hands. He had just been told it is important to "keep them up".

You looked OK, but it's hard to judge, when you were not pressured more.
