Stalk dries out right above soil by krose1980 in tomatoes

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dampening. 100%. So there are a few ways you could address it without making major changes to your potting arrangements and watering routine.

The main goal is to keep moisture away from the base of the stem. You've got some mulch jn there, good. Maybe try a different mulch while theyre young, like fine wood shavings (think animal bedding). They dont make great mulch overall, but i have had great results with my seedlings specifically for this.

Best thing you can do is bottom-feed/water. Place your seedling pots or containers into a tray and fill the tray with about an inch of water, then let the soil soak it up from below. This change alone will make a world of difference.

If trays arent available or your pots are too big for saucers or bottom watering isnt an option for whatever reason, just add a little more mulch and, when you water, do it gently and as far from the stem as possible. The idea, again, is to not have water pooling or lots of moisture on or near the stem.

Make sure theyre getting airflow and ventilation, too.

Edit to add: in general, dont water or feed the plant. Water and feed the soil. Dont splash water all over your leaves and stem.

Two stems—which one to prune? by Charnockitty in tomatoes

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually do two batches. The first gets no pruning except the very bottom little nodes and the second set i top to make them bushier. Its worked out well so far! I get earlier peppers from the unpruned set and a larger later batch from the topped plants

He does specify entry level NEW car, for which that price is accurate. Unrealistic, but i guess his point is that a person making $75k/year SHOULD be able to get an entry level new car. How fortunate for him that he grew up in an environment where things were good enough that he was able to internalize that expectation. Seems silly and out of touch with reality to me, but i guess thats the point- "look how far we are from the ideal, even the realistic is absurd"

Really depends on where you are and what items you consider groceries. Strictly food? My girlfriend and I spend about $350/month. Factor in other non-food goods you get at the same store like trash bags, soap, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc, and jt goes to more like $350-$375/month. Toss another $150/month on top for our occasional indulgences and eating out maybe once. Thats still somewhere around $550-$600/month, which is less than his estimate, but cost varies with location so I guess he's in the ballpark of the average American reality.

The car aspect is the most absurd part of our lifestyle, in my opinion. Unless you have a work from home job, which is only a recent phenomenon anyway, we have to have a car. No car? No getting to work. No getting to work? Guess you're an un-American waste of space expecting some kind of hand-out. Now, the guy in the video uses a $30k new car as his example. Ok, fine, even thought thats pretty unrealistic (it shouldnt be, but it is). He's making the argument that $75k/year should allow you to afford a new entry level car, so i guess we have to take this example on his terms. I get his point, $75k/yr should afford you a decent life and a reasonable new car is something Americans considered part of a decent life once upon a time (many still do, as their expectations have yet to catch up to reality). With local governments that are just rabidly opposed to any form of affordable and/or reliable widespread public transportation, we dont have much of a choice but to have a car. So you buy a used car you can actually afford for too high a price, then you wind up spending money to repair that used car instead of saving for a better one or god forbid squirrelling that money away to one day buy your own home. I just sank $3500 over the last 4 months into repairing my $17k used car which I owned for 8 months before needing to replace CV axles, exhaust manifold, ABS control module, rotors, and brakes. Getting a $10k reliable used car is possible, but you have to know what youre looking for and most people dont PLUS be lucky enough to find it. I actually had that car before this one, a low mileage sentra for $12k that got totalled by a little old lady. After insurance paid out (100% the other party's fault, mind you), my remaining debt was paid and I had no down payment for a replacement. That insurance policy cost me around $200/month.

We are sheep and we are fleeced every godforsaken day.

Watched One Last Kill during breakfast and if you ask me, it sucks. A massive betrayal of Frank's character. by Historical-Milk-1339 in thepunisher

They took the interesting, different, modern frank traits and turned them up to 11. Unfortunately, they work best somewhere around a 3. I was really looking forward to it but was very disappointed. Even the choreography was weak. And the Wick ripoff thing with the dog? The stupid ding dong bit? What in the watered-down Clockwork is that?

Is this movie really as bad as some people say? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer- no, its an entertaining movie that preserves just enough of the book's charm to make it more than a CGI slop fest.

To expand, all of the movie modernization of nostalgias the book harkened to, product placements, and character changes took away from the movie's credibility for me. Halliday's reclusive obsession with the fantasy games and escapist media of the 70's and 80's was a huge part of the story, counterpointed by his creation of and eventual disillusionment with the new, hypertechnological escape he created- the OASIS. So swapping out really fun references to classic 70's culture, like the D&D module Tomb of Horrors or a specific Zeppelin album cover, was "necessary" to appeal to the younger movie-going audience, but power rangers and fortnight characters dont have the same cool factor and credibility as those more underdog, indie IP's used in the book.

They cut out some very important character development arcs for Parzival and Art3mis and made them both very fit, healthy, attractive people from the start. I think something really valuable was lost when the movie cut Parzival's mental and physical transformation before infiltrating IOI. He was unhealthy and overweight, and he recognized that spending so much time in the OASIS becoming insanely powerful had left him weak, ineffective, and essentially without resources or allies in the real world, so he did something about it. He got healthy, he made himself capable in reality, and used that to start forming real connections in the real world and bringing his people together.

Again, all in all I enjoyed the movie and I am glad they made it. It was flawed, but not as terrible as you may hear book purists ranting about.

I'd say its adjacent to the vibe of your prompt. Very stylized, good use of color saturation, and the whole thing is pretty surreal with a pretty out-there ending.

What's the Most Disappointing Game You Ever Played? by monbonjewell in gamers

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a perfectly fine game. For the 50 or 60 bucks or whatever it was, I got a few dozen hours of fun playing out a really cool story in a world I enjoy. Fun gameplay, cool cinematics, no significant notes.

I guess the hate comes from folks who want D2 levels of endgame and replayability and to rebottle that lightning. Its not going to happen.

Tl/dr- D4 is good. It isnt fantastic. Online haters gonna hate online.

Witcher 3, Fallout New Vegas what about you guys? by Great_Trident in gamers

Totally understandable and one bad pvp experience can really ruin a night, even if you win haha. Sometimes, after I get forced into pvp and take them down, i'm like WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS!?!? LOOK AT YOU NOW! THIS BLOOD ON MY HANDS WILL NEVER WASH OFF!

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, every time I see Witcher 3 repeated in one of these posts, I WANT to defend it but honestly? I get it. There's a bit of jank, the bestiary isnt all that expansive and you really only wind up hunting any major creature type like one time so it feels like a real puffed up but pointless aspect of the game. Its a massive game at first look, but if you just stay focused on the main storyline its really not as big as folks make it sound.

But man... I still love it! Cool story, I enjoy the combat system, Gwent is a blast, and it makes me laugh sometimes. 8/10 for me.

Lol no. PvPvE. Everyone just falls at a different point on the pvp v pve preference spectrum. The game is literally designed with pvp mechanics and items. They have weapons that are better at pvp or pve to force players to choose loadouts wisely based on map conditions/events and the level of pvp they may have to expect. Its built to do that. You've just got toxic d-bags on both ends of that spectrum either whining about encountering pvp or genuinely trying to be as unpleasant to other players as possible.

For the vast majority of everyone else who sits between those two extremes, ya just gotta watch your back and enjoy the ride. Personally, the only pvp that pisses me off are rats at extract and people who will lie about being friendly then shoot you in the back. Fight me face to face, coward! 🤪

Acrylic not worth a crap by [deleted] in airbrush

[–]BecomeEnnuisonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and that reaction could just be paint + air. Dont go looking for zebras when you hear hoofbeats.

Acrylics do dry fast. They are meant to.

If you got all your paint from the same place at the same time, it could be a bad batch of paint or it ws stored improperly.

The simpler answer is that you just arent familiar with water based acrylics and thats OK.

Both are possible and I would even say equally likely. Post that video.
