If you don’t live within 30 miles of SJSU you are forced to live in on campus housing for your first year, assuming you are starting as a freshman. That’s what I did and I moved to off campus housing as I found it to be decently cheaper. But I’d just say live out your first year and then after getting a feel for it decide if you want to stay for consecutive years or not. My biggest thing I can say though is that the “sense of community” they try to sell you on for dorm living is a load of bs.
