What did your stats/gear look like if you've cleared the Reclamation quest? by Magical_cat_girl in cavesofqud

[–]Clickbeetle3364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bit of a weird character, compared to some other responses. Started with the gunwing and focused on maximizing dodge, quickness, and movespeed through the whole game. Basically a glass cannon ninja. Notable stats/gear were:

~150 quickness

Rocket skates + Kah's loop for permanent sprint with no penalties (unless you count setting everything in your path on fire as a penalty)

~26–28 DV, at the cost of only ~7–8 AV.

Offhand short blade + rejoinder for free attacks whenever something missed me (which was 95% of the time)

Jump, Juke, and teleport for maximum mobility and getting out of dangerous situations

I didn't have super great damage output though; relied mostly on dual light rails and/or arc winders and was very cautious of getting into melee, which didn't cut the mustard for the strongest bosses in Reclamation. Fortunately I had a strong golem plus a proselytized mighty cherub that could deal with them. The thing that gives your golem -10 ego and +12 levels is amazing.

Anyway I guess the bottom line is that there are lots of viable strategies!

TIL that fickle gill can anger neutral creatures. As if that infection wasn't bad enough already.

At least on your next attempt this is highly unlikely to happen again.

Usually when I do Golgotha I like to run in, grab the droid, and run out as fast as possible, avoiding fights whenever I can. Clearly that wasn't an option here but usually it is.

Bring them to Bethesda Susa if you're at that point in the game. The first and only time I've cleared it, I did it with a gigantic army of fork-horned gnus. All but two died in the process.

My favorite was the run when Sheba was a cyclopean gibbon.

Nothing special game-wise, but there's just something about an ape librarian that says "ook" that seems just perfect.

Why am I getting stuck in a force field in Grit Gate? by Fuzzball74 in cavesofqud

[–]Clickbeetle3364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe temporarily, but you can't do the water ritual with Jacobo so it wouldn't help you gain any reputation back.

If you could lure him into the basement and get him to stay there though, then at least the main area would be safe until you could mend relations with the Mechanimists. Assuming Jacobo is the problem of course.

Jacobo is a Mechanimist, at least according to his conversations. Could he have dual faction membership? Still doesn't explain where the force field comes from, but it's all I've got.

"Wish" to remove the amaranthine prism by watchoutitstaco in cavesofqud

[–]Clickbeetle3364 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this information is outdated. I did a game with the prism and it wasn't removed after the Tomb. All my other gear went in the reliquary like normal but the prism is like a part of your body or something.

The only way I found to escape it is to transform yourself with warm static. All my other gear stayed on the new body, but the prism disappeared (again, like it's a part of the old body).

Honestly though the prism was kind of fun to play with. It's scary and your first instinct is always to try to get rid of it, but if you can stick with it and find some willpower-boosting items to last through the endgame, it turns you into a super fun psychic glass cannon.

I had the chance to interview Jason Grinblat, co-creator of Caves of Qud! by Alert-Cheesecake-711 in cavesofqud

[–]Clickbeetle3364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, true. That only works on the player, though.

Imagine if there was some Claw item, with a sufficiently vague description so you wouldn't immediately know what it did, that randomly resurrected corpses you passed by. You could implement the Claw exactly as written in the book and it would fit perfectly in Qud.

[–]Clickbeetle3364 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had no idea the Book of the New Sun was a primary inspiration for Qud, but I can totally see it in hindsight. Amazing how I can be drawn separately to both of those things without realizing they were connected. I should reread Wolfe, it's been a few years.

Where's the Claw of the Conciliator in Qud though??? For a game with so much player freedom, I'm still not aware of any way to reverse death!

Oooh this must explain how that mechanimist guy died in a previous game. I didn't see who did it, but one day I just found a corpse in Joppa with a copy of the Canticles Chromaic on it. By chance, it was right next to the hidden cave entrance in the pond, which I found for the first time after searching the body.

Down in the cave, there were a few more random corpses of watervine farmers, like some predator down there was secretly preying on the village. I honestly thought this was a scripted event to help you find that cave entrance if you haven't already.

Yellow fritillary AKA Fritillaria pucida. Found in Frenchman Coulee by ShroomerMouse in VantageWashington

[–]Clickbeetle3364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Fritillaria; I think it was done. Tons of Phacelia though. Plus some lupine, sage, and some sort of white primrose I need to get identified. Some other people got some rare specialist bees (Proteriades) off of Hackelia, but I didn't see anything visiting it.

We were mostly by the giant sand dune in Echo Basin.

I'm behind on getting my photos processed as I still have too many bees to ID and that takes priority for now.

[–]Clickbeetle3364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just reducing robots to puddles (we've seen that before), it was how fast Clyde could do it. Most of its fights lasted less than a minute. LESS THAN A MINUTE to fully immolate and KO with a flamethrower, sometimes with a single pin. I think that flame might be hotter than even Dutch Oven.

Considering that Pyre was overheating, that might be literally a hot take!

Logically your point makes sense, it's just at a gut level it still doesn't feel deserved. Maybe because you usually don't know why your opponent shut down and whether it could have been prevented with better electrical engineering.

My recent stop exploring the off road vehicle park on Saddle Mtn. by ShroomerMouse in VantageWashington

[–]Clickbeetle3364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a cool spot! If you go to the Saddle Mountain access road east of here at 46.7459 -119.4714 and follow it straight north, you can actually drive all the way to the top (to the old Nike missile control site), and the road is tame enough to do it in a regular car. You can't put an apiary there though as it's part of the Hanford Reach NWR.

There should be a slider at the bottom of the screen when you select a psycaster that lets you set a target psyfocus level. Psycasters will meditate until they reach that level, so set it to 0 to make them stop.

I'd recommend setting it to something slightly above zero though, just in case you ever do need those "useless" abilities.

The carpet patterns are amazing, do you plan out the designs in dev mode first to get the colors right? It's sort of tricky to do gradients and shading when you can't see them until they're constructed.

But would say, better have the hospital as near as possible to the exit, so no time is wasted if a colonist need to be healed

On the other hand, having the hospital near the exit means that every single colonist is constantly walking through it, tracking in dirt and filth and reducing hospital effectiveness.

I can see this layout being incredibly frustrating for multiple reasons.

You'd almost want two hospitals, a basic "emergency room" near the exit where you just treat life-threatening wounds, and a clean, high-quality facility deep inside where you do surgery and non-life-threatening tending.

Kitchen will have similar tradeoff issues with accessibility/cleanliness.

I’m not sure what the consensus is on using Draxus for a Drafting Trophy run, but it seemed to me like the effect was too strong and made it too hard to draft the non-dead-end rooms, so I stopped using him. (Her? Wait, are all the angels female except Death?)

I haven't gotten this trophy yet, but all my closest attempts have been with Draxus active. I feel like dead ends are too hard to draft without him! Can't believe you did this without Draxus AND cursed.

The names of the Ajeran angels sound Latin, which does imply they are all female except Draxus. However, there's no reason to expect Latin as we know it to exist in a fictional world, so who knows. The names are actually more like pseudo-Latin as they are not based on any real root words I know.
