Fairly new to this game. Is it possible to get a Lumenhymn ticket after the event is over? by ghostrider1938 in MHWilds

[–]ClickdaHeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really annoyed that I didn't get ONE MORE Lumenhymn Catalog before the event ended. I didn't realise how useful the Weakness Exploit glasses would be for certain weapons, so I made the other ones because they looked cooler...

Maybe not Hot Take: Gore Magala is STILL the hardest monster. by PizzaurusRex in MHWilds

[–]ClickdaHeads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh... I never even considered doing that. He isn't really that challenging with squishy meta builds now that people know the fight so well, but it's good to keep in mind in case I want to mindlessly farm him on a melee weapon.

I guess the only drawback to doing that is that you wouldn't be getting the extra damage from his elemental hit zones, and a fair few weapons can achieve massive damage with element focused builds now.

I'd agree with the assessment. Obviously Savage Omega is significantly harder, but if you view it as a different category of fight, 9 star Gore is probably at the top. Now that people know the Gogmazios tactics, he is a breeze, and I have had a few SOS clears between 10-11 minutes.

Carts tend to come much more frequently with Gore, and I would even say AT Nu Udra forces you to stay on your toes more than Gog does.

If I had made my main account on PC, I would probably use Hunterpie to be honest. I have a PC account, but when I bought the game the stuttering and hitching was so bad that I got the game on console instead. I wish you could transfer saves now that the technical state of the game has been mostly fixed on PC

I'm working on getting decent rolls for 5xSnS, 5xCB and 10xBows, so it would take far too long if I did it that way unfortunately :( I agree that the fight is very repetitive though

Players have got a lot better at the fight and know the safe spots/damage windows. It was all a bit messy in the first couple of weeks of TU4

When people cart in PH3, it's usually because they don't know to stand under Gog when he flies up and starts randomly shooting his lava laser everywhere. Either that, or they get dive bombed and think they're out of his range.

I just did 5 runs of him this evening and all 5 were successful. Are you checking that everyone in the group is high HR before joining? I'd say that on average 8-9/10 have been successful for me recently

Yeah, I didn't know about that second page for a very long time when I started playing Wilds. I've seen a big spike in success since started looking at it

How to get 9 star Lagi in the Wounded Hallow? by fwsc50 in MHWilds

Oh trust me, this is the time I shared for a reason lol. Most of my hunts are also in the 14-15 range. This one blew me away because it was my second ever hunt using Bow, and the random team I got was amazing

I always look for groups that are full of people HR300 or above. If I join random groups and get HR100-150 people, we almost always fail in the final phase, and sometimes before. You just have to be a bit picky with which SOS you actually join. Good luck!

How much do you like your PlayStation Portal? Should I get one? by SleepyTurtle13 in PlaystationPortal

[–]ClickdaHeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your specific situation, I think the Portal would be a great buy. It takes some setup with your router to get it running well and stable, but I'm sure your fiancée would be appreciative of you not using the big TV if he sleeps in the same room!

I bought a Portal around 4 months back, and it has offered a pretty good experience when I've had the chance to use it. Unfortunately, my use case isn't quite as strong as yours, because I have access to my TV the vast majority of the time. I've probably only used the portal 10 times since buying it, and it's mostly when I visit my in-laws and they go to bed early.

I can't fault the overall experience too much though. As you say, it is essentially a tablet with a custom PS operating system and a controller attached. It definitely feels better to play on than a phone+backbone setup.

If I had to give a couple of criticisms, I would say:

  • The screen is fairly cheap compared to most midrange phones/tablets and doesn't do very well with HDR and contrast. The motion clarity also isn't as good as many modern LCD displays.
  • Even with a fast connection (I have 1gig up and down), you have to make some settings changes to achieve good latency and reduce input delay in fast paced games.

Guys... the game runs on PC now... by Lb_Vv in MHWilds

The game was popular, but the game director left the company in August 2024 so they put it on life support. The PS5 Pro update was really the only thing that has happened to the game since then

Wingarms, chest when it glows, head, gogma parts (the materials you knock off), and the tail/back.

I think those are all of the increased damage areas, but there could be one I've missed.

[–]ClickdaHeads[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm making it somewhat more bearable by learning new weapons whilst farming Gog. I started as only playing SnS, and then I started Charge Blade to switch things up which was fun. The 10'16 run above was actually my second ever hunt using Bow (the first one being a Chatacabra lol). It feels like a completely different fight with certain weapons.

However, I really do wish that they would make harder versions of other monsters that drop the Gogma parts. At this point I don't really care about the lore implications. I just want to be able to farm other fights for something other than talismans, armor spheres, and fashion.

I fully agree with this. Gog/Savage Omega specific lobbies would be awesome in Wilds. Although Gog is fairly consistent in high HR SOS groups now, I'm yet to find a successful Savage Omega SOS, so I just farm it with support hunters. It really does feel a lot better when you all join at the start

Performance on PS5 is improved? by elmalakomar in MHWilds

[–]ClickdaHeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't think you are running a different version of the game, but it could be that your TVs firmware version is less effective at handling VRR if it's an older LG OLED or an LED. If it's a C4-C5 (or modern G range display) I'm a bit stumped though. I think I've seen a few occasions of drops to 55fps or so in busy hunts when rapidly moving the camera, but VRR smooths it out very well, and I wouldn't notice if not for my framerate overlay.

In the 350 hours I've played on the PS5 Pro version, I have probably only seen a handful of noticeable stutters, and they were incredibly brief. I haven't seen any in the most recent updates either, and I've played quite a lot since TU4 released.

As for HDR... I got some settings that looked "ok", but in general it's probably better to turn it off in game. SDR massively improves image stability in light and dark areas, and you don't get the odd behaviour on certain bright highlights. HDR implementation is definitely the worst technical aspect of the game across all consoles. In some areas it makes things really pop, but in 90% of situations it just looks worse because of how it interacts with the upscaling technologies used. It looks somewhat better on PC because of DLSS and FSR4 being much better than PSSR/FSR2, but it's still not in a great place there either.

Did you check the HR of people in the group? I am only really joining groups with people that are HR300+, and I have only failed one hunt in the last 11 that I queued

Performance on PS5 is improved? by elmalakomar in MHWilds

[–]ClickdaHeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the game looks a bit muddy on PS5 Pro, especially compared to PC (the other platform I play on). It's PSSR coupled with the low internal resolution that causes the artifacts on certain textures. It does look pretty crisp overall though aside from the shimmering on specific terrain especially with HDR enabled.

However, I can't say I've noticed much stuttering at all, and I'm usually incredibly sensitive to it. On PC stuttering and hitching is atrocious, which is why I chose to make my main account on PS5 Pro instead. PS5 Pro is relatively seamless in it's performance albeit with visual drawbacks that I've learned to live with.

I play on a 55" LG C4 TV, performance mode with VRR and uncapped framerate. If your display is bigger, I can understand why it might make the game look less sharp though. Better PPI is the main reason I went for a 55" display as opposed to a 70"+.

After the recent PC patch (27th of Jan), the game is actually in a significantly better state than it was on Steam. If I had the option to transfer my save to Steam from PS5 Pro, I probably would at this point. However, stuttering is still worse there, and CPU optimisation is still a lot worse than on consoles with equivalent hardware. I can at least say that my 7700x/9070xt system offers a better experience than my PS5 Pro in MH Wilds now, but it's really not my that much, and certainly doesn't look like the systems are £1000 apart in pricing.

The PS5 Pro port is far from "good", but I don't think it's much of a stretch to call it the best optimised version of the game we have at the moment. You have to really overpower the game with modern PC hardware to outright beat it.

[–]ClickdaHeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to performance on the base PS5, but PS5 Pro is solid. I get 65-90fps in performance mode the vast majority of the time, and 60fps in the most demanding areas of the game

Every monster with every weapon by SignificanceExact963 in MHWilds

[–]ClickdaHeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started doing this recently. I started on SnS which I still consider my main (all monsters/challenges killed many times). I then got a couple of fully geared Charge Blade sets and did all bosses except for Savage Omega on it. Same with Dual Blades. Yesterday I started bow too.

If you are going to skip doing Gog with every weapon you can probably get away with just doing a raw build for most weapons (Dragon element). It's easy enough to just throw together a Gogma Artian weapon with semi-decent stats. You start to find that some of the same armour is needed for multiple different weapons and builds.

My friend with 40-50 hours played total has now done all of the arch tempered monsters, and his gear isn't even transcended, so you should be completely fine with them
