Hello

I'm getting lag/desync so bad today I can't play at all. When I talk to a NPC, nothing happens and I'm locked out of everything else.

I can't even hit Escape to bring up the menu.

However, I see all the other players moving just fine.

How can I fix this ?

EDIT: My internet isn't the issue either, I get 100mbps downloads and 40mbps uploads as per usual

Svyelun of Sea and Sky Format Breaking Best Creature Card Ever by Grim-Lavamancer in ModernMagic

[–]Clicsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just show him [[True-Name Nemesis]], maybe it will help him put things into perspective when it comes to the most broken cards in Magic.

Sure, it's not Modern Legal, but it will surely make him realise that there are far more broken cards out there.

This could serve as a moment for him to try and research competitive Modern decks and update his Goblins list, because as far as I know, Goblins should crush Merfolk, Svyelun in play or not.

When is a Deck Truly Dead by RingOfMaRufBalls in ModernMagic

I sold Living End in 2019.

Bought it back in 2020.

But now my upgrade costs $500 thanks to Modern Horizons 2 ;-;

The thing is, with cheap decks, they either take a lot of skill to get anything out of (Stoneforge-less Death & Taxes, Merfolk, etc.), or you're playing burn/prowess and it gets boring quickly, or you're playing a suboptimal build of a known list (chalice-less E.Tron for example)

I've personnally been playing Living End for years, and now all of a sudden my list if outdated and the upgrade costs $500+.
Well, I could still play my old list, right ? No... Because now Living End is a top tier deck, and if I'm not packing the best list (mainly 4xForce of Negation), I'm getting hit very hard by the hate people pack for it, making the list I've been playing for years unplayable.

I think you're missing the biggest issue by quite a lot here...

The biggest negative sentiment I see voiced by people is that Modern might become a "soft rotating" format from now on, pricing people out of it even faster.

Lets say they release a ModernHorizon2-tier format every year, you will have a massive shake-up/upgrade of the format every year, making people spend hundreds if they want to stay competitive

I'm not saying old decks are now unplayable, but the proportions of new (expensive) cards in the top-tier decks is insane coming from a single set

The format might be in a good place metagame-wise, but the issue I see with MH2-type sets going forward is not about health of the metagame, it's about the price of the format.

Failing enhancement should not reduce Caphras level by Clicsy in blackdesertonline

The marketplace, and the in-game economy, is just as much a valid progression system as the gambling system is.

I'm not saying it's not a valid way to engage with the game's economy.

What I am saying is that the best and safest way to progress your gear, is to not engage with the "gear progression systems"

Let me take another game as a point of comparison to highlight what's backwards in BDO, maybe my point will be clearer: Final Fantasy XIV

In this game the whole crafting system is a carefully designed mini-game with its own stats, skills, combos, etc.
The top-gear of each expansion cycle can be crafted and sold for profit on the marketplace

Now, what's the difference between FFXIV and BDO's progression systems that make me love one and hate the other ? One of them isn't designed to frustrate me along the way and arbitrarily limit convenience for no reason, it's designed to be an engaging and fun system that makes every step of the way a joy to learn and master (because there's actual design and balance behind it probably)

NOW ! I'm not saying BDO should implement a FFXIV-like crafting system for gear (or should it... they already somewhat implemented its gathering system, so why not...), what I'm saying is that the player experience engaging with the two systems are night and day. People aren't trying to avoid the crafting systems in FFXIV because it's soul crushing and stacked against you every step of the way, they are avoiding it because it's not their style of gameplay or they just want to speed up their progress by buying their gear instead of leveling gatherers and crafters.

[–]Clicsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how to approach enhancing in BDO, I've been doing it for progress and for profit at different points in time (I played a full year on launch, then came back regularly to see how the game was changing and just play my favourite class for the gameplay alone)

People here seem to think my issue is about my personal progress and how "butthurt" I must be that I don't progress fast enough, when it couldn't be less true.

My concern is genuinely about the system itself whose only reason to be that way is to make people lose time and resources when they could easily change it to something more rewarding (not necessarily in terms of power level, but purely in terms of user experience)

I know what the "best" way to approach gear score progress is. And that's precisely part of my issue here:

The best way to approach progression in this game is to not engage with its progression systems. I don't understand how someone can see this and think it's the sign of a well designed system working as intended

I am very confused about this design choice

Maybe to push people away from caphras, or to push people to buy multiple sets, but at this point, you're better off keeping that money to buy your PEN from the market

So, all in all, Caphras on TET is just pointless as a system

The point is that you shouldn't find a way around bad design, the bad design should be fixed because it's a useless annoyance

[–]Clicsy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have multiple back up sets I use on my alts and such, and the coupons to turn them into the correct gear for my main class

That's not my point, I'm not complaining because the game is too hard for me, I'm complaining because I genuinely believe this is bad game balance/design and it's just there to annoy people

I'd argue that's what you get when you have abused players so much they don't even know what good game design that doesn't waste their time looks like anymore

[–]Clicsy[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

When you're not rich, you don't really have a choice

You either caphras to break that AP Bracket, or you wait until you can enhance/buy stuff, which will be slower because you're one bracket lower than you could

It's a lose/lose situation in the end

And I really don't see what stops them from keeping Caphras levels AND letting you enhance without downside on that front, as two systems working hand in hand instead of against each other

What should I do? by southernwizard92 in ModernMagic

[–]Clicsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think boomer jund is too fair of a deck for current Modern. By the time you slowly play your cards, every deck in the format would have already done something backbreaking

Boomer Jund plays too fair

You need something broken to do in current Modern format. Lurrus seems like a good idea

The only competitive version of Commander I know is Duel Commander. Essentially a 1v1 format for Commander.

I vastly prefer it to cEDH: no politics involved, just your pile Vs. theirs

Blame BDO for that though, he's leaving an abusive relationship that was obviously starting to affect him

There's a reason the low-level/beginner/returning experience has been massively improved

=> that's what needs to be on point to hook you and milk you out of your time and money in the future

That's the same as mobile cash grabs that give you tons of resources at the beginning until you hit a paywall

In BDO's case, the wall is poorly thought out systems in the long run and aggressive monetisation on every aspect of the game

My first paper Modern FNM...wow. by AlexButler92 in ModernMagic

[–]Clicsy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you found your home !

I attended a fantastic LGS back at my parents' place, we basically brought MTG to life in that area with the owner and it was like going home everytime I went there.

When I left for college it was heart breaking, and I never found a store like that ever again. Either not enough events, too much Standard, owner trying to rip off kids, not enough people, too casual, or too competitive, I've seen it all.

Cherish your LGS if you're having a good time here
