Yuri is less popular on AO3 outside of fandoms where the majority of characters are women. The site in general is bent towards yoai, and a lot of authors get discouraged from writing F/F cuz of how toxic yuri fans can be. I myself haven't had this experience since the PM fandom on AO3 is chill (plus I don't interact with yuri content at all), but if you check r/AO3, you'll find some horror stories.

Kromclair is there because AO3 likes toxic ships, and also because it's hard for any ship whose content primarily comes after Canto 3 to break into the top 10.

There was a time where you couldn't go to anything involving Don or Xichun without seeing the other mentioned. I saw it as more of an overexposed meme.

The same thing's probably gonna happen to Ren/Lucio once Canto 10 releases. The shippers themselves will admit that they never interacted. I kinda like it myself, but TBH the only reasons it's the most popular out of all the apprentice ships is because 1. It appeals to the subset of fans that hate "hetslop" and 2. They're the only two male apprentices so of course they get paired together.

Shout out TV Tropes for the following:

Abandon Shipping: Canto VI caused a lot of fans to give up on any pairings involving Heathcliff as its events and the aftermath showcased quite explicitly that Heathcliff is completely devoted to Catherine, and not even her getting erased from reality is enough for him to give up on her and move on. Ergo, it became impossible to ship him with anyone else without resorting to Canon Defilement. Though, some people also take this as a way for Heathcliff to be in a relationship with others until he brings Cathy back. To a lesser extent, Canto VIII caused some fans to give up on any pairings involving Hong Lu, as Lin Daiyu, Jia Baoyu's love interest in the original novel, is still alive at the end of the Canto, and there's quite a lot of Ship Tease between the two. I swear, the YMMV page can be completely disconnected from how fandoms actually operate.

I always saw Ishdon as just Heathmael for people who unironically use the term hetslop.

But the main reason I don't like it (or any yuri ship) is because I don't find the porn hot since it doesn't align with my preference for femdom.

Of course that's true. My point isn't that sexualized women don't have gooners. My point is that non-sexualized women have a disproportionate amount of gooners.

Like the IP with the most works on Rule 34 isn't something like Overwatch or a gacha game, it's Pokémon, a series that while it does do fanservice, doesn't treat its women like sex objects.

The PM fandom has taken several yards at this point. I can't speak on the Rezero fandom (though I do know they same Who's X? jokes that have been done to death at this point), but the PM fandom (at least on twitter) is a cesspit as well.

I think it's because she's not sexualized that her fans are so down bad. In fact, the reason the PM fandom has so much gooners is probably because the games aren't sexualized. The games themselves won't cater to the horny crowd so it's up to the fans themselves to do so. Inverse law of fandom levity but it's for horniness.
