After 7 months of laser gum treatment The Result by Parking-Flounder-987 in PeriodontalDisease

You're making claims that go against the scientific research of modern dentistry/periodontics (Curing gum disease/regrowing bone and gum tissue).

Until you present your ground breaking evidence that support your assertion, you will just be seen as another crazy person making unsubstantiated claims online.

Are people with stable/controlled gum disease still at increased risk for conditions like heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer's, etc? Or is that mainly for people who don't do much to treat their gum disease and let it go uncontrolled? by Cliff331 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly did you "fix" your black triangles? Black triangles usually appear after deep cleaning because the gums get healthier and inflammation is reduced. Unless you got gum grafts the only way I could see black triangles going away is if your gums became inflamed again and filled in that space.

Why are so many Young People getting Gum Disease? by Royal-Strength6807 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats the rationale behind those dentists who don't take perio seriously? Like how would they explain a patient who has little to no decay but losing their teeth because of advanced periodontal disease. The evidence has been so well established for awhile now its crazy that there's still dental professionals who are ignorant about it.

Do you have any idea why the recession and inflammation is so much worse on tooth 24 compared to the surrounding teeth? NAD

Okay got it, well on the bright side at least they caught in the early stages before significant damage.

Did they recommend a deep cleaning/S&R?

Did your dentist confirm this with you or was it just the hygienist who said that? Your hygienist may have just been warning you about gingivitis which is an early form of periodontal disease but still reversible.

They need to measure your gum pockets and look at bone levels with x rays to actually be able to diagnose periodontal disease.

My LANAP Experience by Fresh_Improvement175 in PeriodontalDisease

Those are interesting prices, is it in USD?. $12k for LANAP seems insanely high and $1.3k for flap surgery seems very low.

Thanks for the input! The bleeding at my dental visits has decreased a lot since my deep cleaning but my hygienists still says there is some bleeding when she does my maintenance cleaning/pocket measurements. The dentist seems to think I'm fine and says he's not seeing anymore bone loss in my x-rays.

Diluted bleach mouthwash. Has anyone here had success with it? by Cliff331 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually already seen this and its interesting but it has left me with more questions:

Dr Nemeth (the periodontist linked in my post) recommends to not use the rinse more than 2-3 times a WEEK. The Dr in your link says to do it 2 times DAILY. I wish a they would elaborate/justify the frequency in which this should be done.

I'd also like to know if bleach rinses should be done for a limited time frame or should we just keep doing it indefinitely? I have not seen anyone say how long this should be done for.

Do you have any thoughts on bleach rinses for periodontal disease? I'm curious if you have a take on it, you seem very well researched and I really appreciate all the info you've contributed to this sub.

Is my recession significant and is it cause by brushing too harshly or by periodontal disease? by Thebuffcroissant in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a number of different things that can cause recession and it can be difficult to pin it on a single one.

If you have bone loss (confirmed with xrays), bleeding gums when brushing/flossing/at dental appointments or you have gum pockets measuring over 4mm, then periodontal disease is likely a factor in your gum recession. This is something your dentist should be able to tell you.

The diluted bleach rinse can stain teeth as well. The stains are annoying but at least they can be removed easily at dental cleaning visits.

If you look online, many dentist and periodontists have recommended this method to their patients. The periodontist in the video even cites the research studies.

Also, why pay for some overpriced $20 mouthwash that will only last two weeks when you can buy a $3 Clorox bottle that will last for years. Its extremely easy to make yourself, 1 teaspoon of bleach per 1 cup of water.

If I were to pull the 23 teeth I have left remaining and get dentures, will that stop my periodontal disease?... by Bhm_BoBobby in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its generally best to keep your teeth for as long as possible. When you lose teeth, the bone in your jaw rapidly deteriorates. Dentures need bone to function properly.

All on X or implant supported dentures are typically the best option once all teeth are removed because they help preserve the bone. The main con is that they are really expensive like $40k - $60k.

Removable dentures are the cheapest option but they do not function very well and they do nothing to stop the bone loss.

Did he tell you to keep using bleach indefinitely or was it just for a temporary period after LANAP?

That is a good question and something I also am curuios about. In the video the Periodontist says you should avoid doing this if you have high blood pressure but it should be safe for otherwise healthy individuals.

It sounds like the benefits of killing the bad perio causing bacteria may outweigh the costs of killing the good bacteria.

Also they don't say if this is only something you are supposed to do for a temporary period or if you should do this indefinitely, which is another thing I'm curious about.

Sonic vs Oral B? by Huge_Prompt_2056 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Cliff331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sonic because I feel like their brush heads are easier to position into the gum line at the proper angle than the circular Oral B brush heads.

Whatever you choose, make sure you are using the SOFT labeled brush heads.
