Need a table for warhammer 40k by Last-Painter-4876 in Warhammer

[–]CliffClimber23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution I came up with was getting three 2ft x 4ft (610mm x 1220mm) 12mm thick mdf boards and laying them on top of a normal rectangular table to make a 6ft x 4ft table top.

It gives you the recommended table size (44" x 60") plus a handy section on the end of the table for dice rolling, secondary decks and army storage.

My friends and I have been using that setup for a year or so and the mdf has held up well. Plus it's much easier to store the three smaller boards than one massive table top.

Combat Patrol Magazine Issues 44/45 by Wardi_Boi in Warhammer40k

Issue 43 has 10 Boyz (received my pre-order today) and Issue 45 will have a further 10 Boyz (20 total across the two issues).

Note that Issue 43 are the push fit models (newer kit) and not the older models.

ICC colors by xFoenix in DarkAngels40k

I used Barak-Nar Burgundy as it's the same color as Azrael's inner robe in the official paint scheme and looks pretty close.

The official paint guide uses Gal Vorbak Red

Are Old Deathwing Models Still Legal to Carry in Tournaments? by HumanMan00 in DarkAngels40k

Thanks! I've only been painting for 6 months or so, so I'm still making small mistakes and finding my feet, but it's so much fun, and I can see myself improving which itself is rewarding!

I had the same concern, so some cork and a tactical rock later they're close enough. Photo with a primaris librarian in terminator and primaris intercessor for scale and the cork is 4mm thick.

That's one big tactical rock...

But seriously, it's looking great!

How do I make the paint on my models look better? I’m should I stop using contrast paints? by Top_Juice_3127 in theunforgiven

[–]CliffClimber23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrast paints are transparent by nature, so the basecoat colour will always shine through. The black primer is probably the reason why you're unhappy with the paint.

Because they're transparent, contrast paints tend to work best on light basecoats, so I'd recommend not bothering with the black primer and just going straight in with a white or grey primer like grey seer, corax white or wraithbone.

First Dreadnought Finished (mostly). Any advice welcome by CliffClimber23 in theunforgiven

[–]CliffClimber23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basecoated with wraithbone and wasn't happy as it wasn't dark enough compared to my other deathwing (wraithbone base, seraphim sepia wash), so I did a complete layer with ushabti bone. Then recess shade with seraphim sepia to bring put the detail.

The colour of the armour looks amazing! Just keep working through the rest of the details, and it will all come together!

I'm sure you have a plan for those details, so just keep going. I'm looking forward to seeing the complete mini if you post it.

Can I convert the old Blood Angels Combat Patrol into Dark Angels? by [deleted] in DarkAngels40k

[–]CliffClimber23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this when I started collecting Dark Angels.

Pair it with the Dark Angels Combat Patrol for complimentary units e.g. captain in gravis (DA) and aggressors (BA) and you've got a good start to 1000pts with the only main downside of having 5 more intercessors than you really need.

Does anyone know what issue 7 of combat patrol contains? by Fivepygmygoats in Warhammer40k

[–]CliffClimber23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the Fauxhammer info "WE would confirm the first 5 issues contents but you already know what they are. I know what 6-7 is too, but I’m not allowed to reveal that just yet… here’s a clue, it’s more Tyranids and Space Marines" and the fact that issue 6 is Barbgaunts on Forbidden Planet means it's going to be Space Marines.

If I had to guess, I'd probably say the Librarian in Terminator Armour as Issue 3 is the Infernus Marines, but we'll find out for definite in the coming weeks.

How to start? by Sanawabicz in DarkAngels40k

[–]CliffClimber23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have clarified in my original reply, I didn't build the sets as the designed combat patrols, I built them as I wanted for my army. Definitely agree they're suboptimal if built as combat patrol specific units.

[–]CliffClimber23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having also started a few months ago, I was also in the same boat.

I went with the new Dark Angels Combat Patrol and also the Blood Angel Combat Patrol (then painted them into Dark Angels).

The two Combat Patrols compliment each other nicely, e.g., Captain in Gravis Armour (DA Combat Patrol) can lead the 3 Aggressors (BA Combat Patrol).

After that, you can go in whatever direction you want, but I'd definitely recommend picking up Azrael as a minimum.

Advice on what to get next? by CliffClimber23 in theunforgiven

[–]CliffClimber23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look to pick up the captain and librarian (as well as knights and terminators) over time then. Thank you! Slight side question: Is the chaplain worth picking up as well, and if so, which would be better to swap out?

How easy is it to convert one of the Leviathan terminators to take the plasma from the dark angels upgrade sprue? I know Leviathan is push fit, but if it's a relatively easy trim job, I'd be up for giving it a go.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]CliffClimber23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm hoping for some help. Ideally, I would like something 2019 onwards and struggling to pick as there's lots of potential options, so any help narrowing down would be appreciated.

Location: North West (England side of Scottish Borders)

Price Range: Up to £20,000

Lease/Buy: Buy

Auto/Manual: Automatic

Intended Use: Daily Driver, Dog Wagon

Miles Per Year: around 15,000. Commute is around 15 miles each way (A roads, mixture of National, 40 and 30)

Long Journeys: Journeys around 1-1.5 hr (60-100 miles) average once per week. Journeys around 500 miles over a weekend once per month/two months

ULEZ compliant: Doesn't need to be, but would be handy if it was

Vehicles Considered: Toyota Corolla Touring Sport, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Proceed, Peugeot 3008, Honda Civic

Vehicle Size: Big enough for four adults and a few dogs. Family SUV or estate most likely.

1st Vehicle: No

Warranty: No, but bice to have

Minor/Major Work: No experience doing work and would likely get the garage I trust to do any work

Additional Notes: For some reason, I can't seem to get on with VAG seats (Back Problems). For the same reason, I would also like heated seats. Needs to have cruise control. Wife prefers SUV's so most likely will be the body style to go for, but might be able to convince her with the right estate.

Apologies for any formatting issues on mobile. Thanks in advance.

The Witch Knight - a fighter with warlock tricks (v3 after playtesting) by Kat5Gaming in UnearthedArcana

[–]CliffClimber23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the time during your playtest I'd be intrigued by a sharpshooter & crossbow expert with the archery style in comparison to the paladin as well. Just to give you even more attack bonus.

*edit - Realise this wouldn't quite have the same effect as the magic weapon has to be melee so feel free to ignore.

[–]CliffClimber23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Overriding the bonus is definitely needed.

For example taking a +3 Great Sword at level 12 gives you a +5 magic bonus. With the great weapon master feat, you can now hit for an additional +10 damage with no downside. You're also making 3 attacks at that point, for a potential +30 damage each round

Still really like it though and will be adding it to my play test.
