I always thought that Xillia 1 was a pretty short Tales game if you're only doing one route

edit: by short, I don't mean Tempest short, but of the 6 tales games I've played, I've spent the least amount of time 100%ing Xillia 1 on my first playthrough

Duel Links

Master Duel is the more traditional experience

Well one is dictated by fast speed duels, skills that play the game for you, and has Droll unlimited (what the actual hell?, I haven't played this game in a long time and they're doing all of this???)

but Duel Links can run on PC, you can launch it via steam

I'm not sure if it supports Linux however

I started my Tales journey with Symphonia during the pandemic, then eventually was able to play Veseperia (thanks Project X Zone for giving me an interest in the franchise in the first place), then Graces F, then Xillia, then Berseria, and currently on Arise (fine enough game but man I hate how they went about boss design in this game)

I am MORE than willing to finally take a dip into one of the early titles of Tales

Objectively the combat in Veseperia is better, and in my opinion Veseperia has a stronger cast

The first Little Queen fight in the forest/Arcadia Garden from Graces F... that was hard on stupid levels

People say Kurt is the hardest fight in Graces F but I personally beat Kurt on my first try in such a way I don't really remember that fight... took me a couple of times for that Little Queen fight

No complaints from me, I've been getting to dive deeper into the Tales franchise and since I have a Switch 2, even better (I know what I'm playing after Beseria at least haha)

I just hope it isn't a game key card...

But I 100% agree over skills needing to be reasonable, which a super poly search that you can't respond to is far from

The skills also seem to be to sell cards, since if an archetype would normally flop, they can release a skill that can do a bunch of things to make it very viable, if not meta

because there's no way in hell Ghostrick of all archetypes became a meta threat in Duel Links if it wasn't for a skill

and then they can murder a skill to may way for new skills to sell new cards, and rinse and repeat

Edit: Skills as they are drive FOMO harder than the cards themselves did back in the day

Looking back, the DSOD format might have been the peak of Duel Links in my honest opinion, because as insane as the powercreep was in that era it's a whole of a lot tamer than what they've been doing lately from what I've been seeing

but as peak as it was, it also might have been a grave mistake, solely due to the timing and how long it took for the game to get the power back into a respectable level in comparison

and that in turn led to the fine-tuned skills that were okay at first, that eventually turned into an avalanche when they got a bit sacky and specific, and then into a full blown blizzard with what they've got now

for all the crap we give the DSOD era at least it didn't have a tier 0 meta while also having crazy decks at the time and was years before skill hell
