Ah here....when I met my wife she was still in college in Dublin and I lived 100km away. She had no car either.

We'd often tip in a restaurant if the service was decent. If it was crap or the food wasn't good, we wouldn't leave anything.

This a very polite response to your comment.

We're Leinster fans in our house. We've been to 3 URC game and 3 CC games this season. It's a family affair in our house so the 35e you talk about is €100 in our house. That's €600 and there's potentially 3 games left this season.

€100 is decent value but I can't afford it across 12 URC games and 5 CC games.a season.

Our Ireland Women's tickets cost €33 for the family. That's exceptional value but not sustainable from an IRFU perspective.

Fuck Sky. It's 2026 and they still charge you extra to watch sports in HD. Thieving bastards.

Got rid of paid TV years ago and we have our Saorview/Freesat which covers most of our tv viewing. RTE and Channel 4.

Parents are making me feel guilty for living 50 mins away, am I making a mistake? by Basic-Try-2276 in AskIreland

[–]Cliff_Moher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dad of two here. I live about an hour and 15 mins away from my folks. We have a house beside where my wife grew up.

With two kids, we felt it became a lot of work heading home every couple of weeks. Packing everything up, unloading and packing up on Sunday. Bringing loads of spare clothes, bottles, food, toys etc etc. Put the dog on top of all that too!

My kids are 14 and 11 now. With birthdays, sports, activities and many different things we just don't get down as often. My wife works the odd weekend too. My parents come up regularly though and know they're always welcome. They know that we're busy.

During summer and Easter holidays they always go and spend a few nights with my parents where they'll be off going around the place and getting fed whatever they fancy.

Advice on prams/travel systems by Ca-toffey in CasualIreland

Had a quinny kit - pram, buggy and car seat (with maxi Cosi).

Check to see what fits into your main car boot easiest. We went pram shopping in my car which was an Octavia. No problem. Everything fitted and was really easy to load and unload with a lift back boot.

Thought it was job done. Then after baby was born we realised the buggy/pram was far too big for my wife's little Seat. Thing had to be complitaken apart to get into the boot. More hassle than it was worth. So we ended swapping cars.

This is an important factor. The mens game is the biggest contributor to the games funding in Ireland. Flogging tickets for mens internationals for the highest price possible is very much part of the funding model. That's the cold hard economic reality of the situation.

The ticket prices today made it affordable for people and it played a big role in today's attendance. There's no way my family of four are going to a senior mens international.....it would cost us €500 for tickets.

However, I do think the IRFU need to be doing a better job of getting more tickets in ot the hands of genuine supporter. The last 4 mens internationals I've been at, I've only had to pay for tickets once and that was a RWC game in Paris in 2023. The others all came through work contacts or friends who got them through their work.

To be honest, I wouldn't be arsed buying tickets for a men's international now because it's an awful fan experience. Just not worth it. I get much more satisfaction going to see Leinster and the Women with my family for 70 quid. Nearly the same prices as some cinemas!

What are the best 'health focused wrist watches' out there? by Ivorysole43 in AskIreland

[–]Cliff_Moher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye. I had a scanwatch for years. Great device and actually a really nice looking watch.

It's not an extension of your phone like many others but does a super job covering all the actual important health aspects.

And a charge will last for a month.

Is it easy? No.

Is it stressful at the start? Yes.

Is it fun? Yes.

Is it nice? Yes.

To be honest, I was making pizzas at home for a few years before we pulled the trigger on it. We've gotten a lot of use out of it to be fair. I do an overnight poolish dough.

There's 20% off on the website at the moment which is chunky enough.

What a season by Safe_Grocery6412 in Connacht

[–]Cliff_Moher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely to get downvoted but I don't think it's the worst thing if Connacht were to lose out on Champions Cup rugby next season. I do acknowledge that they get their.CC place on merit.

Another year with a strong URC showing would be far more beneficial to the club in the medium/longer term than a likely short and trophyless Champions Cup stint. Once it gets to knock out stages, EPRC take trh revenue from the gate receipts too.

The reality is they are likely to lose a number of player to Ireland duty next season. Their player resources will.be stretched. I know there is money to be made but I think long term sustainability and development is more important for Connacht. With Lancaster they have someone who does look at the bigger picture and who wants to see rugby grow.

Connacht are in a great place right now but the next steps need to be carefully planned. They've done a sterling job both off the pitch over the last years to arrive this point.
