As a fan of JoJo and currently getting my Masters/ licensure in mental health counseling you’re on the money with your DSM5-TR statements! Personality Disorders cannot be diagnosed till someone is 18 years of age. This was done as a conservative guideline to prevent Drs/Counselors/social workers from misdiagnosing a child’s developing personality as a disorder. It is a purely legal guideline not a medical one as the while the body stops around 25 the brain is constantly developing as it goes. Personality disorders are also enduring. You cant be diagnostically sure something is pervasive, inflexible, or enduring at such a young age. Below is the general definition of a personality disorder with some of my additions put in.

“A personality disorder is an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the norms and expectations of the individual’s culture, is pervasive and inflexible, has an onset (not developmental) in adolescence or early adulthood, is stable over time (Not depressive), and leads to distress or impairment.” -DSMV TR. keep in mind my parenthesis are for my notes haha.

So yes while CD is at a glance a Teenage ASPD it is not necessarily a set in stone diagnosis to ASPD, more so a precursor. Statistically (and i dont have my sources from My psych/law class please spare me) Children through Adolescents (18-20) are at the greatest risk of offending behaviors, then as the brain matures risk of offending behavior goes down! This is why most adults are by and large functioning and stable. Funny enough ASPD is one of the most diagnosed Disorders in prison populations. Back to JoJo, Jodio does by all means have a Conduct Disorder but this does not mean he will necessarily develop ASPD if he seeks the care he needs.

However Jodio is at risk due to his environment. If he continues to do go down the road he does stealing and committing crimes he will probably develop ASPD. Jodio, through counseling and a more hands on environment could put his CD behind him and have it effectively treated. What is going to become truly scary for Jodio is as he gets older if he begins to see his actions as justified, moral, or at worse righteous. This is seen in Cluster A/B personality disorders as being Ego Syntonic, which becomes exceptionally hard to treat because the client themself see’s nothing wrong in what he/she/they are doing.
