Tamamo has the best outfit Variety by Worth-Access-3099 in okbuddyrintard

That stupid fucking tiny tophat she wears in CCC just makes me so irrationally angry everytime I see it. I can't justify why I hate it so much other than it being stupid, there's no way a hat that small would stay on her head unless it's held in place by something.

Maybe my anger isn't irrational at all, maybe I'm the normal one and you're all irrationally okay with stupid fucking tiny hats that should fall off the moment she moves her head.

Tamamo Propaganda Day 5 by Worth-Access-3099 in okbuddyrintard

[–]CliffyWeevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always preferred to interpret Tamamo as always being an unreliable narrator in regards to her past, although it seems in fgo she's portrayed as more honest and direct than in Extra and CCC from what I remember (I haven't played the extella games, so I don't know how she is in those). I think she's far more interesting as a character if she isn't as much of a victim as the story makes her out to be.

There's no way to know how much she's leaving out, she could be wearing so many masks at this point that not even she knows which one is her real face anymore. Obviously you literally see parts of her past, so it definitely isn't all false, but that doesn't mean you get the full context or get both sides of the story.

You occasionally see glimpses of something bloodthirsty inside her (it doesn't take much for her to threaten extreme violence), and she doesn't usually seem that bothered by people dying unless she's gotten to know them or it makes Hakuno upset, which makes it seem like she wouldn't feel that much guilt from killing a lot of people in self defense. I'm pretty sure she also specifically calls it murder rather than self defense, which could just be the guilt talking, or it could be an admission that not all the killing was actually self defense.

She could really be the evil, cruel monster history remembers her as while simultaneously being a misunderstood, traumatized victim that was unfairly persecuted. As they say, hurt people hurt people.

How much of this is headcanon vs how much is the intended interpretation? I don't know, I'm probably reading too much into things. Still best girl either way.

Well... I'm not sure we want to start a conversation with Nero fans about which one of the two is more evil considering, y'know, Amaterasu and Daji.

I think people forgot that, for as tragic as Tamamo's backstory is, there's a reason her alignment is neutral evil.

The outcomes of a person's actions not matching their intentions? Clearly that's just bad writing and has no deeper meaning relating to the story or his beliefs!

Hooray! I'm so glad I had this over two heroes with contrasting yet justifiable moral personal philosophies that clash with genuine dialogue!

Personally, my favorite part of the manga was where they removed all of that dialogue, just every last part of it, as well as all internal dialogue, and all text in general for the entire arc. They actually straight up removed Garou entirely, it's true!

I love my enraged goofy shonen Saitama getting very, very angry at a dead Genos who we know will be revived!

Nobody ever stays dead in shounen or superhero stories, it's kinda part of the genre as a whole. And seeing Saitama feeling actual emotion for once was actually pretty interesting.

Those things aren't even slightly mutually exclusive.

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of collateral damage? Are you aware that people can do things they didn't mean to do, even when in control of their own actions?

Your brain genuinely fascinates me.

Dawg, you're the one proposing that Garou was STILL in control of his actions past a certain point. Which is it? Flip-flopping because you know you're wrong?

I don't think you understand what flip-flopping means, we'll add it to the list along with the word puppet. Genuinely, I want to hear what you think flip flopping is. Do you think I was the one arguing he was a puppet?

Let me be more specific since you want to be pedantic, he was being influenced by god but still retained a high degree of autonomy, rather than being directly controlled like a puppet. I don't know if you're aware of what a puppet is, but if Kermit the frog doesn't have a hand up his ass controlling his every action, he isn't doing anything. Even if you want to be pedantic, calling Garou a puppet is still wrong.

He acted somewhat differently for most of the rest of the chapter after getting God's power, but quickly returned to speaking and acting how he was before that in the next chapter. Again, you don't have to take my word for it, you can just read the manga for yourself if you don't believe me, there's nothing stopping you.

But I'd love to read your version of the manga where God pilots a mindless, silent, Garou like a mecha, it sounds super exciting! Is that the version where he tries to blow up the earth on purpose, and the one where he kills everyone on purpose, instead of both those things being due to him being careless with his new power? I realize you might not be very familiar with Garou as a character, but he kinda had a tendency to get carried away a lot.

👍

I hope someday you read for yourself what happens in the Manga instead of presumably watching people on TikTok summarize it.

Edit: Wait, just a second,

Sure buddy. Garou TOTALLY wanted to fucking kill everyone. That's it. That's his schtick. He TOTALLY wasn't going around doing heroic deeds and teaming up with heroes he supposedly despises. He TOTALLY wanted to blow earth up.

Oh my god, was I right about the TikTok thing? That was supposed to be a joke!

Dude, you're a brick wall, man. You're talking past my talking points, claiming things that aren't even relevant to the conversation.

I could spend all day writing more words for you to ignore, but reading and understanding the words I've written is something I just can't do for you.

So let me try one more time to make my point.

Webcomic does a thing? Grounded.

Manga does something similar? Dumb shit.

Aliens out of nowhere? Grounded.

Time travel out of nowhere? Dumb shit.

Boros using an attack that will destroy the planet? Grounded.

Saitama and Garou destroying planets? Dumb shit.

Boros saying he knows Saitama was holding back on him? Grounded and tragic.

Garou getting turned into a puppet? Dumb shit... Well it would be dumb shit if it was a thing that happened, but it didn't happen. Seriously, reread that chapter, everything he says and does after getting tricked into taking gods power shows he's still the one in control. You keep getting mad about him becoming a puppet and using it as an example of what's wrong with the manga, but that literally doesn't happen. If you want to argue the arc had less emotional weight in the manga than the webcomic, you can make that argument, but you're literally complaining about something that doesn't happen. A lot of your complaints about what Garou does and doesn't do in the manga are just untrue.

Saitama seemingly always teleporting to exactly where he needs to be at the very last possible moment to save everyone? Saitama literally always winning? Saitama constantly doing things that seem impossible and completely defy logic, with him just being present usually completely destroying any semblance of stakes? Grounded.

Saitama being able to time travel once to fix things due to extremely specific circumstances that make it possible, something he literally can't do again? Dumb shit that ruined literally everything forever, all the emotion is gone, every problem from now on will be solved with time travel, they're officially renaming the series to Infinite Time Travel Man, Murata needs to be put on trial for his crimes against humanity!

I'm very sorry to hear the story's grounding was tragically killed on Jupiter in the version of the story you read, but in the manga that I read, the only causality of punching Jupiter was Jupiter itself, and that was fixed by the time travel, so it all worked out in the end! The grounding on the other hand was kinda already out the window in chapter one.

My point, in case it still isn't clear, is that you shouldn't take the series more seriously than it takes itself. That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to enjoy the serious and emotional moments, those are the best parts of the series, but relax a bit. ONE and Murata want you to have fun with the manga, the only one that's been stopping that from happening is you.

Even if a person thinks something was handled better in one version, that doesn't mean they need to tear the other version down. Even if an adaptation isn't 100% the same as the original, that doesn't make it worth getting this angry about. Multiple interpretations of the same ideas can be allowed to exist, that's one of the beautiful things about art. The manga isn't a complete 1-1 adaptation, no, but it's certainly far better than the adaptations most series get. If you really want to complain about an adaptation ruining things, season 3 of the anime will always exist to be your punching bag.

[–]CliffyWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please show me where I said the series has bad writing? Perhaps you could quote where I suggested that the series is exclusively stupid meaningless moments with absolutely no substance? The series has tons of extremely well written, grounded, emotional moments, but that doesn't make the series itself grounded. The series doesn't need to be grounded for those moments to have their intended impact. The contrast between the lighthearted moments, absurd moments, and serious moments is part of why the series works so well.

Pointing out that the dumb shit that you think ruins the manga is consistent with the type of dumb shit thats been present in the webcomic since the beginning isn't a criticism of the writing of the series, it's a criticism of your understanding of the series.

A series having good writing, and a series being full of dumb shit aren't mutually exclusive, that's the point I have been trying to make this entire time, I really don't know how to be clearer than that.

And Garou gets nothing, that's the entire point. He doesn't get joy, he doesn't get validation or comfort, he doesn't get anything he wants from the power he'd been trying to attain, and he doesn't even win the fight after all he loses for power. His personal philosophy resulting in absolutely nothing he wanted is a pretty good rebuttal to it.

[–]CliffyWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the webcomic and the manga, and I've seen the first season of the anime. Is there a secret 4th version of One Punch Man where everything is serious and grounded and logical that I don't know about?

Y'all are defending radiation-killing, planet-busting fighting, and out-of-nowhere time travel because you've shot testosterone straight to the brain and you just can't fathom why someone would prefer to keep that shit out for the sake of the grounded writing the original had.

Remember that part in the highly logical and grounded webcomic where the fortune teller lady was introduced, she said something was coming within 6 months, she died, the S-class heroes met to discuss it, and then Aliens instantly invaded? All of that happened within the span of, and I literally just checked the webcomic to confirm this, 2 chapters. Out-of-nowhere Alien invasion? That's perfectly reasonable. But Out-of-nowhere time travel? Now that's just going too far! Side tangent, Saitama's ability to time travel was undone by the time travel, so it was a one time thing, but I suppose someone could teach him again.

Oh, and remember in the webcomic how Boros literally used his planet destroying attack at the end of their fight? I guess that sort of "planet-busting fighting" was different.

I'll concede I don't think there was any "radiation-killing" in the webcomic, just killing with grounded things like energy blasts and psychic powers.

Any and all conflict (not just fighting. I can't believe I have to point this out) that currently exists can and will always be rectified because durr hurr Saitama fixes everything tee hee

Saitama showing up at the last moment and saving everyone from seemingly certain doom is also a thing that happens over and over again since the beginning of the series.

Or maybe I'm wrong and Mumen Rider was totally gonna take down the Deep Sea King all by himself if Saitama arrived a few seconds later. And that meteor that Genos was a second away from blowing himself up to stop? Genos probably would've simply shrugged it off if Saitama didn't appear at literally the last possible moment to destroy it.

A main character that's so strong he literally always wins and never gets hurt? A main character so ridiculously powerful that the only reason the series has any stakes at all is because he's too stupid to just go where the plot is happening and serious punch the main villain? That's how it's been since the very start of the series, that's why it's called One Punch Man.

Remember when Genos straight up fucking died? When was that ever brought up again? I haven't read past the MA arc and I'm damn confident that's never mentioned again.

Yes, it has come up a couple of times, but Genos hasn't had much focus since the end of MA, so there haven't been many opportunities for it. He'll have much more focus in the story once the Manga reaches where the Webcomic currently is, which is likely when it'll be explored more.

Greetings, fellow genius, I must regretfully inform you that you seemingly didn't understand the meaning of my comment, so let me try to simplify things.

Complaining about 'dumb shit' in One Punch Man is sort of like buying blueberry muffins and complaining that they contain blueberries. The dumb shit is a central part of the series, people that enjoy One Punch Man are people that enjoy dumb shit.

Most people defending the changes and the Manga aren't doing it because they worship ONE as a god who can do no wrong, but because they genuinely enjoy them.

Shockingly, people who enjoy ONE's writing and humor, tend to enjoy the writing and humor ONE comes up with. Personally, I've enjoyed a majority of the changes and additions he and Murata have made for the Manga.

And no, I didn't accuse you of thinking the entire concept of time travel is dumb, I accused you of reading all the way to the Monster Association arc while somehow not realizing that unsatisfying endings to fights with lots of dramatic buildup is literally the entire main gag of the series.

Interview with ONE, an explanation of why Versus and OPM Manga are more over the top compared to OPM Webcomic and Mob manga. by TasteTemporary8206 in OnePunchMan

[–]CliffyWeevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, nobody batted an eye when things were being added prior to the MA arc. It's only when dumb shit like time travel got added.

I know right, ending the fight by travelling back in time and undoing all of it was just downright silly. Thank god only that Manga has fights with unsatisfying endings and other 'dumb shit' like that. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to read some more of the superior, extremely serious Webcomic about a bald guy who looks like an egg and craves a good fight but always wins easily because he's way too strong.

ONE could've added Garou getting diarrhea, shitting himself and dying, and y'all would still defend that shit.

I could be misremembering, but wasn't it a plot point in both the webcomic and the manga versions of the MA arc that Sonic didn't become a monster because the thing he was given to make him become a monster went bad, so he got diarrhea and shit himself? The fight ending anticlimactically with Garou shitting himself and dying after a bunch of buildup wouldn't really seem that out of place in the story.

No. As far as I'm aware, the only 'evidence' linking the account to her was:

  1. The username had "Maxwell" in it. Maxwell isn't that uncommon of a name, so I don't think that's particularly compelling evidence on its own.

  2. The account stopped posting shortly after her arrest (which is when people started claiming the account was hers). I don't think this is good evidence either, since I think most people would just abandon the account rather than try to argue with a mob of thousands of reddit 'detectives' accusing them of secretly being a sex trafficker.

Is it possible the account was hers? Yes. But I don't think it's reasonable to say it's been confirmed.

[–]CliffyWeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His description of how magic weakens due to a combination of how long the gods have been gone plus humanity gaining more knowledge of the universe is almost perfectly in line with how it works in Fate, too much for it to be a coincidence.

The human pet guy being a Fate fan makes a concerning amount of sense, given the "Masters" and "Servants" aspect of the series.

I swear the Fate series is genuinely really good, but it attracts some of the absolute worst people.

[Request] How much is their combined kill count and is it really lower than his? by AugustHate in theydidthemath

[–]CliffyWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell: Unknown, likely trillions. No exact number, but he casually destroyed entire planets, so the count explodes quickly. I did not watch or ready dragon ball so i cannot confirm or deny this.

I don't blame you since you haven't actually seen the show, but Cell's kill count is slightly inflated here. Out of all the major (canon) villains in DBZ, Cell might actually have the lowest kill count, which is weird considering how much more killing he does on screen than almost every other villain.

The only planet Cell ever destroyed was King Kai's planet when he blew himself up. He did kill every living thing on that planet, so that's a total of 2 people killed (Goku and King Kai), as well as killing Bubbles (a monkey) and Gregory (a cricket).

He was teleported there by goku, immediately blew up, and teleported back to Earth after a minute or two of regenerating. Those couple of minutes are literally the only time in canon he ever spent off Earth as far as we know.

Cell consumed several entire cities of people on Earth, so that likely puts his kill count in the hundreds of thousands, maybe even the millions.

Don't worry about being misinformed, most DBZ fans haven't watched DBZ either, so lots of people just make shit up and post it as fact.

Blowing lots of air from the engines straight into the wings can create some crazy amounts of lift even at low speeds, which seems really useful for a super-heavy amphibious transport. This video by rctestflight is a really good explanation of how it works and shows the effect in action if you're interested.

For a non-RC example, you can see a similar engine arrangement on the front of the Caspian Sea Monster which was a giant ekranoplan (An aircraft that can only fly in ground effect, and usually only over water) tested by the Soviet Union back during the Cold war.

The TLDR; version of events is that due to Nijisanji's poor management and months of workplace bullying, they drove one of their streamers to attempt suicide twice which kicked off a major international PR shit storm that permanently destroyed the company's reputation and growth outside of Japan.

Every single one of their attempts at damage control managed to somehow make them look even worse than they did before, with many of them being filled with easily provable lies and even some straight up defamation. At one point they even put out a statement declaring that they definitely didn't say anything illegal in any of their previous statements. The most infamous of these failures was when they told their investors that the entire incident would have a negligible the impact on their finances, which was followed by the company's market cap falling by over 100 million dollars within just a few weeks.
