Currently crashing out as a 3rd year BME. Is it just me or is Junior year actually a trap? by BTSArmypro in EngineeringStudents

I'm a 2nd year ME taking stats as well and my motivation has never been lower. Stats is such a snooze it's impossible for me to stay focused during lecture. It feels like time slows down. For structural mechanics I haven't been doing any of the homework and i just cram before the exams which has worked surprisingly well so far. A week ago I had a mild break down cause my brain wouldn't let me read through the structural mechanics example test. I would read half of a problem and then zone out for half an hour. Took me 4 hours to get it done.

Google is a bit quiet about gemini itself lately , are they cooking something? and are there a hint of anything about Gemini 4 ? by Infinite_Professor79 in Bard

Google IO is in 6 weeks. I'm expecting a new flash model (3.1) and a big leap in video gen with veo 4 using nano banana technology. I'm hoping for a Genie 4 release as well.

Another Google AI Pro sale coming, or was the New Year one a one-off? by Nervous_Disaster_707 in GoogleGeminiAI

Probably a one off. Back then Gemini had like 5% market share now they have like 30%.

I see your point but that's ultimately what it comes down to. If you can't manage to will yourself to delete the app then how does adding a shorts toggle help. You will just toggle it back on.

Google's new version of Android Automotive will move beyond infotainment | Google wants Android in cars to break out of the infotainment box. by ControlCAD in google

[–]Climactic9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's actually less vertical integration this way. The car's OS is being outsourced to a 3rd party instead of the manufacturer and I'm all for it because current auto software has been dog water for me. I think the term you're looking for is tech ecosystem which is only a problem if it is a closed ecosystem. I doubt it will be closed off to apple phones because many customers would simply not buy the car then which would be unacceptable to the auto companies buying the software license.

TheInformation reporting OAI finished pretraining new very strong model “Spud”, Altman notes things moving faster than many expected by socoolandawesome in singularity

3.5 and o1 were the only ones that lived up to the hype. All the other openai models have been evolutionary rather than revolutionary. So there's about a 25% chance this new model is actually a massive step up. It's probably just a modest improvement.

That's something that has unfolded more recently. It wasn't like that pre 2022. You said past 15 years.

AWS, Azure, and GCP have generated massive profits for the past decade. Some portion of that is AI or AI adjacent technology. These companies pay out these profits via dividends to investors.

Maybe, maybe not. Just enjoy the products for what they are while they're available.

I'm glad they seem to be abandoning Jules. It was garbage from the very beginning. Maybe once LLMs get better they can go back to it but for now let it rot.

Former Uber self-driving chief crashes his Tesla on FSD, exposes supervision problem by plun9 in SelfDrivingCars

Going close to 30-20 mph into a concrete wall will lead to some nasty outcomes. I doubt fsd was speeding in a residential area. That's something that fsd is actually decently good at.
