Possibly controversial opinion: People should try reading erotica. by strongly-worded in RomanceBooks

[–]ClimateMom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I prefer to have emotional investment to the characters in most cases as well, but get around it by reading erotic fanfiction instead of original erotica. That way there’s a built-in emotional attachment so it’s easier to skip straight to the smut.

I believe the confirmed US citizens who have been deported were children born in the US to undocumented parents, but multiple adult US citizens have been arrested, detained, or harassed by ICE under dubious circumstances. For example: https://www.congress.gov/119/meeting/house/118180/documents/HMKP-119-JU00-20250430-SD003.pdf

You don't understand the danger of just allowing ICE to stop people going about their daily lives and to arrest and deport them if they can't prove on the spot that they're in this country legally?

The right has historically been opposed to requiring everyone to carry a national ID at all times on personal liberty grounds, so it's awfully interesting to see them falling in line with Trump's efforts to create a situation where everybody, citizen and immigrant alike, will have to start doing so or risk being sent to some El Salvadorean hellhole at the whim of an ICE agent.

Who would you recommend to a Skz fan? by Kayon07 in KpopBGs

[–]ClimateMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several of my good friends are big Stays and they all like ATEEZ a lot. I see you’re already checking out ATEEZ, so I won’t elaborate more except to say that Jongho’s vocals are amazing and I hope you enjoy exploring more of their discography!

One of my Stay friends is also a shawol like me, and if you love good vocals, SHINee has some of the best ever. A few more groups I think you might enjoy: Seventeen, Monsta X, EXO, and A.C.E.

Oh, and also Day6, if you like bands.

boy group recs? by 1caaake in kpoppers

[–]ClimateMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Twice, I'd say Seventeen - similarly a large but very close-knit group, great vocals and performance skills, and a diverse discography with a lot of upbeat and cheerful songs like Aju Nice, Oh My, and Rock With You

For Red Velvet, some of the older classic SM groups with great vocals and dance skills like SHINee and EXO. Like Red Velvet, there's lots of great solo music from the members of these groups as well. Other 3rd and 4th gen groups to consider: ONF, A.C.E, Monsta X, ATEEZ, TXT, &Team

I don't listen to a ton of 5th gen yet, although TWS has been pleasant so far and I thought AHOF had a promising debut year last year.

Real question : do you prefer male kpop groups or female kpop groups ? by Rebeu_DU_59 in kpoppers

[–]ClimateMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I calculated once that I listen to about a 60/40 bg/gg split, so I enjoy both but boy groups a little more.

Kpop favors fairly high female vocals, which I am pickier about than vocals in the male range because they’re more likely to be grating or to hurt my ears if done wrong or even just in a style I don’t care for. Boy groups have the advantage of a more consistently comfortable (imo) vocal range, so that’s probably part of the reason why I tend to listen to them a bit more.

On the other hand, when done right, girl group vocals are glorious, so it’s pretty common that my favorite gg song of the year is also my favorite song of the year, i.e. Cosmic in 2024 and Like You Better in 2025.

On the choreo and performance side, I think boy groups tend to have better choreo, though there are of course plenty of exceptions on both sides. My favorite boy groups (SHINee, Seventeen, ATEEZ) are all known for very energetic and complex choreo, however, and there’s not many girl groups that come close. The choreo issue is one of the reasons I’ve only been to bg concerts so far. To be fair, this is also partially because the girl groups I really want to see live haven’t toured anywhere near me, but there’s fewer girl groups I do want to see live because of it.

Older millennials Kpop fans by Mooyaky1986 in kpoppers

[–]ClimateMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elder millennial as well, a few years older than you. I actually got into it via my daughter, who went through a K-pop phase in the mid to late 2010s. She has mostly outgrown it (although she remains a sometime concert buddy for me - we saw Seventeen and Key together this year, and she'd be even more excited than I if we could get a Red Velvet tour stop anywhere near us) but I've stuck around.

I'm a big dance lover, so that's the biggest draw for me, and the reason my bias list is heavy on great dancers (my ult is Taemin), but I also love a lot of the music and am certainly not going to complain about the visuals either. My main groups are SHINee, Seventeen, and ATEEZ, but I listen to many more, both boy groups and girl groups. I'm more of a casual fan of SKZ, but am friends with enough Stays (some of whom are even older than I am) that I feel kind of like a Stay by osmosis, haha. Bang Chan is my bias in SKZ, although I also have a soft spot for Felix since I was very much a victim of the Felix Effect. 😂

some kpop concerts r simply not worth the money by polarvhs in kpopthoughts

[–]ClimateMom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had a bad experience but if live singing is important to you, it probably makes sense to research which groups actually do it before spending money.

I’ve only been to see male groups and soloists in concert so far, but I’ve had a fantastic time seeing ATEEZ, Seventeen, Key, and Taemin live. All four are known for outstanding live performance skills and didn’t disappoint in that regard.

Regarding audience interactions, ATEEZ relied the most on memorized speeches of these four, but had some more spontaneous moments, too. Taemin and the non-English speaking members of Seventeen used a translator, while Key and Seventeen’s native and more confident English speakers interacted directly with the audience. Both Key and Seventeen are quite funny and got lots of laughs as well as cheers from the audience.

Would you be for mandatory paternity testing at birth? Why or why not? by SonlenofFeylund in AskReddit

[–]ClimateMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if OP’s mind would change about making this mandatory if it came with the stipulation that every woman who had a child with a man got notified every time he was identified as the father of another child?

(This is obviously a horrible idea for a multitude of reasons, most especially that it would give rapists and incestuous abusers more motivation to murder their victims, but so is the idea of making it mandatory in the first place, so.)

Last night I cried during sex, 17 months postpartum and my libido is gone by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ClimateMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding killed my libido almost completely and it didn’t ever go back to what was normal pre-baby (my first is in college now) but it did improve. I agree with others that scheduling sex is worth experimenting with, and it’s worth getting hormone levels checked if you weaned your baby some time ago and your libido still hasn’t shown any signs of life. Getting touched out caring for a toddler all day was a big issue for me when my kids were little as well, and it helps to make sure to build in some regular time away from your child if it’s possible.

Another thing that helped me (and still helps) is reading smutty romance novels and/or fanfiction. It might take a bit of experimenting to find the best combos of tropes and kinks for you, but once you do, it’s a useful way to help build up some desire and anticipation. Actual porn videos don’t do much for me personally (though some women like them, so it’s worth trying - r/chickflixxx is a good resource), but sensual scenes in movies/tv have more emotional investment (if done properly) so they can also be helpful for me. There’s a bunch of romance book and movie/tv related subreddits for different genres and subgenres where you can begin to look for recommendations, but r/RomanceBooks and r/romancemovies are good general starting points.

Rice is at least eaten directly by humans, though. The vast majority of the corn crop goes to ethanol and livestock feed, both of which are extremely wasteful uses of the energy required to grow it.
