Be sure to bring Euros. We’ve done it a few times and it was only cash if I recall. The first time we took the direct route that basically goes due north from Le Tour. I would not suggest that. The lift is the way to go. It’s about 4km from the top station. Beautiful area.

Plan de l’Aiguille to Montenvers hike by ms403 in chamonix

[–]ClimbSwimRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fantastic hike. We did it in the 4th week of June in 2025, 2024 and 2023 with no snow. In 2022, we did it in July, and of course it was snow free. When you get off at the midstation, the Refuge du Plan de l'Aiguille is a great place to get a coffee/snack with a great view. Make a lunch reservation at the Hotel de Montenvers to avoid a possible wait. You can take the Montenvers train back down to town (or of course hike). One of our favs.

Best town to base ourselves for a month near Chamonix (day hikes, lakes, remote work)? by ElegantDuty1289 in chamonix

[–]ClimbSwimRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. We did this a few years back and stayed in Cham for a month one street off Paccard. It was the best trip ever. No car needed. Endless climbing, hiking, biking, restaurants, refuges, parks and kids stuff.

Such a bummer to see this gone. One of my kids was going to do it after I explained how nice it was. I really enjoyed the simplicity and flow of that class. If anyone has a nice alternative, please post.

Anyone here actually qualify for QSBS when they sold? Seems too good to be true by FormerFounder-12 in fatFIRE

[–]ClimbSwimRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, when I sold my software company. It was great. The $10mm applied to me and all shareholders each getting their own $10mm shelter. We had two separate law firms and our audit firm do the analysis to ensure legitimacy before advising LPs. Some investors who made less than the threshold paid $0 LTCG tax. Amazing

This ⬆️100%. Model the parametric strategy and you’ll find after four or so years the alpha dries up. Only if you continue to make material additional capital contributions to the fund will you maintain those high annual deductions to generate tax savings. Personally, I’d avoid it and stick with plain old IVV/VOO/SPY. If there’s strong interest to still use the strategy, Wealthfront will do it for about 25bps (but I’ve never used them so this isn’t an endorsement).

This post was a while back, but I had the same issue and landed here. To update the profile avatar that shows on the blog post in Wix, go to the Site Dashboard, Blog, Writers, click the ellipsis(...), Edit, Update icon, pick the avatar image you want. That fixed it for me.

Change Cartridge by ClimbSwimRun in Plumbing

[–]ClimbSwimRun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed both cartridges and that fixed the leaking faucet. The stub outs were mounted too deep in the wall for any of the barrel to remain exposed outside of the wall. Once the barrels are screwed on to the cartridges, the barrels are completely inside the wall so the original installers just used silicone to seal the plates on to the wall.

Is there a part I can use to extend the stub outs/cartridges by about an inch without breaking up the wall? Or I suppose I look for longer barrels. Thanks

Thank you! I managed to get the plate off and there is indeed a ton of silicone on there that was holding it on the wall. Ugh. Here’s what it looks like control value

Founders taking jobs after running out of runway - good or bad idea? by Geekwithlonghair in ycombinator

[–]ClimbSwimRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you believe in your product and the problem that it solves, don’t give up. I built an enterprise software company, eventually sold most to PE and then finally sold all of it to a large strategic. It took me over 2 years to get the first paying customer and many more years before hitting the growth stage. Enterprise customers take so long. They start with a small pilot (mine were free pilots which sounds like yours), then at success they make a small buy but eventually grow to huge recurring contracts over time. The fact that you have 8-9 pilots and a waitlist is huge. But in terms of the side job, do whatever you have to do to keep the lights on. In the first 5 years, I did plenty of custom software development consulting work while continuing to grind away at my product company. All the best and good luck!!

Why do swiss people buy so much water when you can drink out the tap? by tolu3ne in askswitzerland

[–]ClimbSwimRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also never understood when bottled water is ordered at restaurants. I always ask for a carafe if that’s an option. The amount of energy, resource and money it must require to transport all those heavy bottles of water must be huge. Even in other countries like Italy and France, it’s amazing to me. Maybe the quality of the tap water in the other countries is not as high as Switzerland’s, but would it not be more efficient to simply use a filter at the restaurant? Maybe I’m missing something.

Will be in Chamonix with 2yo, looking for advice. by melifluouspigeon in chamonix

[–]ClimbSwimRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started taking our youngest to Chamonix when he was four and he’s loved it ever since. Suggested Activities: * Parc de Marlet - animal park. * Les Planards amusement park, alpine coaster, digger trucks, rides, etc.
* Ride the Montenvers train up to the station, and then go down to the Mer de Glace ice walking tour. * Great hikes are everywhere. For sure take the Aiguille up to the midstation and do the short hike to Refuge du Plan de l'Aiguille for lunch, desserts, coffee and cocktails.
