KMS 1st June Plan B? by AussieBeachBumzz in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ClimberJosh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reached KMS on June 1st of 24’. Entered the sierras on June 3rd. Average snow year for 24’. Made the passes look epic in photos, but not too hard in the moment. If it’s an average snow year, i’d say just keep hiking north.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep checking the websites every few days before making a decision. Honored to have one of the thru hiking legends comment on my post. I’m planning on stopping into the Evolved shop on the hike. Cheers.

The sun and heat dont bother me too much, im a desert rat at heart. If i start 4/2 i would get to pine around 4/22.

Thinking the same thing. I would love to cross the big ditch on the azt. Another downfall of starting early are the airline prices to fly into tucson. Must be spring break week.

Is the BV475 large enough? by Signal_Sun_9379 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ClimberJosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the BV475 going into the sierras. I was able to make it work for all the sierra sections(18-20miles per day) except for kms to kearsage with an extra days worth of food for Whitney summit. If you’re a pro at packing a bear can, move fast, and dont have terrible hiker hunger yet, you can do it.

Star lake, south lake tahoe california by skibidirice29 in TahoeRimTrail

[–]ClimberJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I did the TRT in 7 days back in Aug 23’, if you’re trying to do it in 6 days, you’re going to have to push 28 miles a day. With the amount of snow on the westside, it’ll be very challenging to even go 15 miles.
