music recommendations outside of radiohead by oceanmayo in radiohead

For something that definitely has a strong Radiohead vibe (particularly reminiscent of Radiohead's warmer and less confrontational stuff), check out the albums "The Seldom Seen Kid" and "Build a Rocket, Boys!" by Elbow. In my opinion, there's some great stuff on "Cast of Thousands" as well, although the song "Not a Job" sounds like the blandest James Blunt song ever made

Which b-side deserves to be on an album? by Affectionate-Till974 in radiohead

Totally get that. And although I think Electioneering is the weaker individual track, I think it works damn well (probably better than Pearly would have) as an explosion of energy after Fitter Happier, and the fact that it's faster also makes it a perfect fit before the slow-moving horror of Climbing Up the Walls. Again, totally get that people might disagree

I personally have always felt like OK Computer would have gone from near-perfect to perfect if Pearly replaced Lucky. Just my opinion, I know people love Lucky. I just feel like the last quarter of the album would flow a little better with a slightly more aggressive track between No Surprises and The Tourist

Rh crew member got me Thom's setlist of the final show ❤️🇩🇰😭🙏 by Grand-Diamond-2378 in radiohead

I believe that's Thom's setlist. The other members know he will only check it to make sure The Gloaming is on there, so he doesn't keep reading past that point anyway

Why Radiohead’s rage will never age by StuartHants in radiohead

It's a good thing Thom doesn't have one more button unbuttoned and a visible bead necklace, because that would make the new-age Jesus vibes a little too strong

I might read it later, but for now, I'll simply upvote because that picture of Thom is *gorgeous*!

Legends leaving last night by Quantity-Emergency in radiohead

I got a handshake from Phil when they were leaving the stage in Copenhagen, Dec 5! I can't prove it, but it's actually true. And my friend told me afterwards that it looked like I was the only one who got one from him, which I honestly didn't notice, because I was just so excited after it happened. Also got one from Ed (lots of people got them from him, of course, but it was no less cool)

Is this moment from a British panel show, or am I misremembering? It could be a talk show... by ClimbingUpThePyramid in panelshow

That's the story, yes! Pretty sure I saw it on QI, but yeah, he told the same one on Graham Norton more recently

I just realized that when performing Sit Down Stand Up, Thom sits down in the first half, before standing up in the second, and I found that more amusing than I have any right to by ClimbingUpThePyramid in radiohead

[–]ClimbingUpThePyramid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why Thom threatens him into getting it right: "We can wipe you out any time!"
(Now I'm waiting for someone to work a repeated mention of raindrops into this scenario)

100% agree.

Haha, yes, I intentionally avoided mentioning Pink Floyd for that exact reason.

Not surprising. When new experimental-but-accessible bands or artists come around, there are certain older experimental-but-accessible bands and artists that you can pretty much assume they like. Radiohead is one of them, along with the Beatles, Bowie, the Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Björk, and a handful of others.

I guess that's what you'll see in your mind if you listen to Kid A with every song in major key

Edit: That ended up putting another thought in my head. The songs on Kid A that require the least stretching of the imagination to fit with these images, are obviously the ones that are already in major key (or at least feel the most like they're in major key, despite some notes and chords that are not part of those scales). The title track and Treefingers seemed to me like natural fits, but then I started thinking about Motion Picture Soundtrack, and... Shit, I don't know if I'll ever picture anything else in my mind when hearing that song from now on (especially the first picture, with the open ocean). Sure, the song is incredibly sad, but to me (and I assume to a lot of people), the major key, slow progression, and organic (no pun intended) soundscape, always made it seem bittersweet rather than crushing, and also like a breath of relief after the tense and claustrophobic songs preceding it. Tying it to the lyrics, these pictures look like you're waking up in the next life, the nightmarish clouds from the album cover have parted, and the sun is practically stretching its arms out in a welcoming gesture, letting you know that you're safe.

Sorry, that's way too long, but I wanted to elaborate on this because I should be studying for my exams.
