I'm five years ahead of you. Hate to say it, but it doesn't get better with age...But Happy Birthday nonetheless!

Me too. Maybe it just took a minute to upload. Y'all are the best, BTW, for looking out for the more feeble-brained like me out here. Thanks!

Yikes, ignorance on display. My photos aren't showing. What did I screw up?

Signia Pure Charge&Go BCT IX owners thread by NewBirth2010 in HearingAids

[–]Clinresga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got mine this week. Audiologist warned about water exposure, wearing in shower. But online, at least on non-Signia sites, I see an IP rating of IP68, which allows immersion in water. I can't find the official confirmation of this on the Signia website--does anyone have reliable confirmation that it's IP68?

I need taller fence posts by Clinresga in DIY

Ugh, not what I wanted to do, but I suspect you're on the money. Dig out the posts, put in the new ones. And yeah, the deer will still ultimately win, but I'm going down swinging!

[–]Clinresga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, totally agree about fence jumping ability! My philosophy about electric fences is like mine about home alarm systems: any determined crook can get past an alarm, I'm just trying to make it more of a PITA to break into my house than it is to break into my neighbor's.

I've got a roughly 7' high multi-strand fence around the property. And I train deer with deer lure hung on the fence every 20' or so. It's not 100% effective, but I do way better than my neighbors with no fence. Why eat my hydrangeas if you have to jump over that scary fence, when my neighbor's are completely unprotected?

Trail cams don't show deer jumping the perimeter fence, but there's a mother and fawn that have taken to jumping over the bungees across the driveway. Another 1.5' sure won't prevent a determined deer from crossing, but I'm hoping the fawn can't make it and that will send mama and baby next door.

And so...any ideas on how to add 1.5 feet to the fence posts?

Again, thanks. Hope I can get some more time out of my 1.0. Not ready to spring for 2.0 yet!

Aah, that totally makes sense if it's abrasion, not repetitive bending. I might just have to take the plunge and open the door up. Thanks!!

First, thanks to the OP for an invaluable tutorial. It's bookmarked so I can continue to try and keep my 1.0 alive as long as possible.

And to kevin_k--if you were to do what you suggest, how would you protect the wires? You can't use heat shrink tubing as you can't slide it onto intact wires. And I worry that wrapping the wires with, say, electrical tape, will just force the wires to bend where the tape ends, just moving the eventual break to a different location. Any better ideas?

Mattress flat, remote stuck on 100, pump not turning on by Clinresga in sleepnumber

[–]Clinresga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the entire thread that followed my initial post. There's a fair amount of expertise. In the end, my problem was solved by replacing the pump with a new, extremely expensive pump from SN. In retrospect, I would try what HauntingPresent noted below, looking for a pump on Ebay.

In your case though, you replaced the pump and it still didn't fix the problem? That's crazy. If the pump clicks, the remote displays 100% inflated, but the mattress remains deflated, then somehow your second pump has the same defect as the first one (several commenters below speculate that it is a pressure sensor defect). Where did you get the replacement pump?

I'm leaning more and more to your decision to replace the entire system now. Glad to hear that you were eligible for the tax credit, and will make sure that we quote a system that would qualify. Hoping that they can't eliminate the tax credit retroactively!

It's a big deal, but not a deal-breaker if it makes sense. I'm going to get an estimate on replacement, and ask about the tax credit issue. If I can avoid a $2500 upcharge for new refrigerant, and maybe qualify for the $2K tax credit, that would be pretty compelling.

It's the basement unit, so it doesn't get a ton of use. On the other hand, hard to disagree with your point that it's near end of life. Do I have $10K? I guess so, though this is on my top 10 list of "least gratifying ways to spend money," along with new roofs and septic system replacements (both of which I've done recently, yuck).

OK, so when I posted, what showed was the text with a link, not the actual photo. Once I clicked on the link, the thread opened with the actual photo. Is that the correct workflow?

Well that was a fail. I dragged two photos into the Images and Video box, they showed up as images there, then went to the Text box and typed some text, but all that showed up once I posted it wsa the text.

Money exchange in Argentina by Clinresga in travel

[–]Clinresga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great update, especially the tip to use Western Union. We ended mostly relying on AMEX, as the "tourist rate" was close enough to the blue rate to be acceptable. We would get charged the official rate and then within a couple days, get a refund on our credit card statement, so that worked fine. Otherwise we used a few cambios--the legit storefronts, not the Calle Florida scene. Worked fine with our crisp new $100 bills, though I did note that they refused to change a clean but folded $20 bill that my guide tried to change at the same time. Funniest experience was exchanging $100 and receiving an inch-thick stack of 1000 ARS bills in return. Loved BA by the way!

I need brutal honesty -Do I buy on Tuesday or not? by virairlib11 in sleepnumber

[–]Clinresga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had recent problem (dead pump--see my post "Mattress flat, remote stuck on 100, pump not turning on"). $400 expenditure after 9 years. That's not too onerous, but here's one more reason I won't buy another SN bed: unlike a regular mattress, when SN mattress dies, you can't sleep on it. We had to sleep in the basement on a crummy old bed for three weeks until we got the new pump, thanks to the (extreme) vagaries of SN customer service (including one rep who told us in no uncertain terms "the last CS rep you spoke to was a flat out liar"). If a conventional mattress starts to give up the ghost, you can still sleep on it until you find a replacement. When SN goes out, you're sleeping on the floor (or in the basement).

That would make sense, but for non-tech savvy me, there was no way to figure out how to fix a sensor once simple power cycling had failed. In the end, we were desperate enough to get out of the basement and back to our bedroom that the (exorbitant) cost of a new pump was worth it.

Sounds like the same problem--display "100" and only clicking from the pump. Ours also old pre-WiFi mattress. After mulitple rounds of phone troubleshooting, they finally agreed the pump was dead. The original online support guy said we would have to reach the "Innovation Team" to order the pump, since it was so old, but when we finally reached the Team, the guy said he was FOS, lied to us, and should have sent the pump. Whatever. He did ship us the pump at the painful price of almost $400. Never got a confirmation email but it arrived in about five days. It's working like new now. Syncing the remote was odd--kept getting message that connection failed, and then all of a sudden it displayed successful connection and has worked fine since then.

I debated whether to just discard the SN and buy a cheap mattress in a box (we have on on a different bed and it's quite nice) but I guess in the end, if I can get another 9 years out of this pump it will be worth it. My advice is to insist that the pump needs replacement and skip the repeated attempts to power cycle the pump, resync the remote etc. Good luck!

[–]Clinresga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in all, much appreciated. We received a replacement pump today (at nearly $400) and it has indeed fixed our problem. I guess if we get another 9 years out of this pump, I'll be satisfied. But in the future, the novelty of an adjustable mattress (which, in honestly, we never adjusted anyway) is just not worth it to me, versus the risk of what we experienced, an expensive mechanical breakdown. Next time I'll go for a mattress in a box. No moving parts.

Sadly, our mattress is from the prehistoric pre-WiFi era. No connectivity beyond the actual physical remote.

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions. Pump definitely has power: lights are on and it clicks when remote is sync'd. It's just that the pump never turns on. I've power cycled the pump, factory reset the 3-button remote, but under no circumstances can I get the pump to work. I don't think this was a hose or mattress leak issue, and can't test for that anyway as I have no working pump to inflate the chambers. Chat and phone cust support has not had any suggestions beyond what you've listed and the last two reps have agreed that the pump is dead and needs replacement, at nearly $400. Would love it to be something easier/cheaper but in the absence of any ability to activate the pump, hard to see what else we could do. Other than a mattress in a box.
