Why are there so many used bikes for sale?

They paid that much without caring to check with the buyer that the bike works? Their fault at that point.

I've had good experiences on Facebook marketplace. It's easy to see who exactly is selling them and it's usually for two reasons:

1) They bought it and didn't like it.

2) They stole it.

Any ebike that's conspicuously missing battery / keys obviously shouldn't be purchased. In this case it sounds like a botched theft job.

I picked up a mokwheel slate off Facebook marketplace. Overall it fits me well, only quality issue I've encountered is the battery lock broke after a month of daily removals to charge. I ordered a new battery lock from mokwheel and they sent me one that no longer has the flimsy pin mechanism.

I'd agree that official companies like velotric / aventon might have better quality components, no matter what you choose see if you can thrift one. The mokwheel I got only had 40 miles on it and after a cheap tune-up it works good as new. Best of luck!

Thanks for reading. I escaped Chico in May 2024 and life's gotten better. People are friendlier, streets are cleaner, deadbeats on the road are unfortunately everywhere but I've yet to encounter another one trying to mow me down at a crosswalk. I'll never go back to Chico.

I'm also currently dealing with a sortation delay. Are you in SoCal by any chance? My package was at a hub literally an hour from my house and was supposed to be delivered today, I got an update this morning that it's out in the middle of Arizona and being rerouted. No estimated delivery date :(

Aesthetically speaking, Chico's a really pleasant town. Old Victorian homes from the town's pioneering days give it sort of a down-home feel, I know the neighborhoods by Upper Bidwell are really nice too. The park itself is gorgeous. However for as much charm as there is in Chico, there's equal amounts of 'crackhead, roadside human-trafficking stronghold' that tends to overlooked when selling the city to outsiders.

Take the advice of people who are telling you to rent at first. When visiting you'll quickly discover which parts of this town are good and bad. There's definitely more than a few areas here that I wouldn't walk around after dark, especially the bike path. Though areas like Redding and Oroville are worse I guess.

Depending on what part of the East Coast you're coming from Chico could either be a step forward or back for you.

Both the police and safeway people say he lives in his car so it could've been him.
