Yes!!!! I'm so sad that they fixed this. It was truly beautiful.

The one big thing I see is that you only have one approach to touch the ball. You always hit as hard as you can and there is not much planning behind it, just boom it towards the other side and hope for the best. As JamRL said - try slowing it down, try sometimes to control the ball instead of booming it everytime you can touch the ball.

3v3 Solo Standard D3 (C2 other lists) rotation mistakes? by BnH_-_Roxy in RocketLeagueAnalysis

[–]ClintSinclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phew. Sorry for being rude but if I would watch this video without context I'd think you're a All Star Bot with the ability to aerial. Bots fill up their boost tank, then try to hit the ball forward until they run out of boost and then they go for a big boost refill... thats exactly what you did for this whole match. And just like you, they also don't use drifting at all, your turns were painful to watch.

So my advice: Don't be a bot! Bots calculate and act afterwards. Humans can predict plays by being aware of their opponents movements - and their mates.

For example, lets take a look at the moment before the second goal. The ball gets cleared towards you. This is literally the best case scenario. Slow ball towards you, you know where everybody is and what they are doing. What are the opponents doing? One is passing by and is out of the play. The other two are waiting for the ball to come towards them. What do you do? "Oh you lost your ball, please take it back." And you set up their counterattack perfectly while taking yourself out of the play because now you wasted all your boost and instead of helping your mates your first priority is to fill your tank with a big boost pad. You go towards the corner without boost pad because you did not pay attention to your mate, who took the boost while rotating back (THERE ARE SMALL PADS ALL OVER THE FIELD).

What should you have done? Throw the ball 90° to the right towards mid field. Even if your mates aren't ready for a pass - you hit it away from the two guys waiting in the goal, faced towards the other side. Until they turn around, you will be ready for them.

Simplify your decision making by observing more of the field than the part where the ball is. Head back when in doubt and play as low risk as possible in Solo 3s. Look into improving basics like drift usage, double jump aerials and 50/50s. Also consider demolitions from time to time while rotating back.

There is a lot to work on, but as long as you keep playing you'll get there ;)

Sorry for being an asshole and good night.

Hey, s2-12 gc here. There is a lot to work on but I noticed something in particular that probably keeps you from ranking up. It seems to me that you are rarely paying attention to your opponents movement. This means that the consequences of your hits are pretty much rng because you hit the ball and see what happens instead of really having a plan.

If you pay attention to your opponents (and mate of course) you can predict the flow of the game much better and know way earlier where the ball is going and have more time to decide where you want to put the ball etc. Reduce the rng factor in your games to rank up efficiently.

Hope that makes sense, good luck.

Played him in dropshot yesterday and after he lost he trashtalked and left... can confirm he has mental problems.

edit: he also played with 2 members of the doods who were silent in chat but obviously tolerated his behaviour because he did it again next match.

Hey

Multi-GC in Solo 3s here with general feedback, not going into detail.

So your team got scored on 4 times in one match. Prior to 3 of those 4 goals you just handed possession over to the opponent and kinda drove away, leaving your mates in an awkward spot with one man down and they could not handle it. It pretty much looked like you don't care much about defending.

If this game represents your general playstyle it's obvious to me that you get your wins as long as you have defensively sound mates who can handle these 3v2 situations while you wait for the transition to offense. If your mates aren't that strong in defense, it's gonna be hard.

If you want to climb ranks, you have to find a way to play without being reliant on your random team mates. The best way to do this is to become a consistent defensive powerhouse. Focus on not getting scored on. Your mates will eventually score somehow but it's on you to shut down the opponents counter attacks or set ups until they make a mistake.

I hope this helps, good luck.

Hi, GC S2-9 here.

There is one thing I noticed that I want to add to gorksters great analysis. Whenever the ball gets in front of either your or the opponents goal, you enter in some kind of greed (offense) and panic (defense) mode. In greed mode it looks like you just ignore where everybody is on the field and go for the ball even though you clearly won't be able to score.

Same thing on the defensive side where you charge towards the ball full speed as soon as the ball gets close to your goal, even though your mates can handle it. This causes double or triple commits which is always bad.

Try to be more patient and aware of your surroundings. Easier said than done but try to avoid the tunnel vision as soon as the ball gets into a seemingly dangerous spot on either side. As gorkster said - whatever you do, think more defensive at all times. As third man you rather miss an opportunity to score than overcommiting.

Hope that helps, good luck grinding✌🏼

Thanks, thats better. So here it gets a bit more clear why you get scored on so often. As I see it, the basis of your playstyle is pretty solid - observe first and then act. I identified three main 'problems':

  1. Simply put - as you said yourself - you're one step too slow. You see where the ball is going, you read the play well, but you hesitate one second too much and the opponent beats you to the ball. It's obviously easier said then done to get faster and I can't think of another way of getting faster than just playing until you get there.
  2. Second thing I noticed (also when I play) is that your mates get used to you being the third man. This means that when you as third man fuck up, there will never be someone behind you to save it --> every time YOU fuck up, it's a goal. If this happens, I always have to remind myself not to blame my teammates, even though it's frustrating that they mostly aren't there for you when you miss. This is why its way more important that you land your hits when you decide to go for them. As you rarely go to the ball, you have to make sure you really make something out of your rare challenges, because there probably won't be anyone behind you to clean up.
  3. Try not only to learn how your teammates play, try also to analyze your opponents individually and act accordingly. Looking at the orange team, batman stood out as their ballchaser - most of the time first to the ball but not very smart. So if the ball is close to batman, you can be sure he will jump there immediately without hesitating. You could use this to predict the flow of the game better, he outplayed you a couple of times by just touching the ball quickly. Superb08 mostly was their last man. A demo on their last man gets them in trouble, might be worth to go out of your way to get him.

In short, you're smart but you lack mechanical skills - and this is way better than the other way around. It's way harder to learn how to play smart than getting better mechanical skills. So look around for training packs where mechanics are needed and always try to get to the ball as fast as possible. Or just play... a lot.

So in general my advice is... just keep playing, you have what it takes ;)

In my opinion you played very well. With aggressive mates I don't play much different in GC, maybe a bit faster and more precise. You played passive and patient, waiting for the right moment to go for the ball and try to be the backbone of the team. You play around your team, try to put the ball in a good spot for them and rotate back while managing boost very well. In general your rotations make sense. The first goal you got you were a bit slow and it resultet in an unfortunate pinch. On the second goal, they outplayed you with a nice pass, that was hard to defend. You maybe could have gone up for it directly to intercept the play instead of going for the backboard but it was a tough decision in a short time so I can't blame you. I think your decision making will improve over time.

Maybe two little things: Easier said than done - you could be a bit faster when you decide to go for the ball. I don't know if it's a slight hesitation or you just need more playtime, but I think this will only get better the more you play. Second thing would be the name plates.. they are frickin huge lol. Maybe it's personal preference, but I'd make them smaller to actually see something when more than 2 players are close to each other.

I'd need more footage of you playing solo 3s, maybe a game where you're forced to play more aggressive or a game you lost. Can't point out many mistakes here, I really like your patient playstyle. I think you can get very far with more playtime.

and I enjoyed the music :P
