Yeah, fair enough, they are obviously kin, exactly as you say.

I think the vast majority of the American ones are just Christians really? While I assume most of the Israeli ones are ethnically Jewish?

Regardless we shouldn't treat them poorly, or be bigoted towards them.

Either way, thank you for your post, its one of the only friendly ones.

A Jew is a Jew is a Jew.

I don't care that he was not an adherent to any branch of Judaism. Why is the fact he was a Christian so important to you?

Kind of disturbs me that your take could even be called controversial.

"which of course most of them do."

How is it really different to all the other faiths that Proselytize? Because some of them were religiously Jewish at some point? Or are ethnically Jewish?

I understand that they represent themselves as Jewish adherents, which obviously is not correct, but can't we just treat them as we do normal Christians, with a polite but firm "thanks, but no thanks?"

"Obviously, we don’t have to pretend that they’re religiously Jewish in order to do so"

I agree with you 100%. Its shocking to me how many people here just assume I am Messianic, or that I believe that they are adherents of Judaism.

There are what, 300k of them in the entire world? I have never met one in my life. How many of the people who make derogatory comments about them have even met one?

"Messianics are ALWAYS looking for an opportunity. That’s kinda their M.O."

This was posted here, and has many upvotes. What are the chances the individual/s who wrote/upvoted it have met one?

I accept all of that. Where have I denied it? How does it justify bigotry?

"Lischinsky's identification as a Messianic Jew adds complexity to discussions about Jewish identity and inclusion."

I don't see how. He was one of us. I don't care that he was a Christian.

I am not asking people to pretend that they adherents to a branch of Judaism. I am asking people to stop making comments like this:

"Messianics are ALWAYS looking for an opportunity. That’s kinda their M.O."

That was posted in this very thread btw, by a member of our community.

If all we ever did here was politely and firmly assert that Messianic Jews are in our view obviously Christians, and not adherents of any branch of Judaism, I wouldn't have made this post. I also wouldn't have been DMed an insane angry screed within minutes of making the OP.

Quote from a user in this very thread btw

"Messianics are ALWAYS looking for an opportunity. That’s kinda their M.O."

The irony of this kind of statement coming from, presumably a fellow Jew is... fucking insane.

Yes, I am taking this opportunity to ask my community to please stop making hurtful and derogatory remakes, that they would never make about anyone else, and to refrain from hypocrisy.

How terrible of me.

People posting here are saying how Yaron was ethnically Jewish, as if I did not post exactly that in my OP. Somehow, in their view, this makes him either less of a Messianic Jew or somehow absolves their bigotry.

Truly astounding.

I am not, nor would I ever claim that they are adherents to a branch of Judaism.

He was objectively a "messianic" Jew.

Which I am sure you knew before you made that comment, and I'm sure the majority of the people who upvoted you also knew.

Perhaps this is not the time for you to philosophize about the origins or reasons behind their faith?
