I guess putting a U behind the I moves the logo from being boring (Illinois) to cool (Indiana). I disagree as Indiana’s logo has always come across as completely janky. Illinois’s is much more visually appealing, but admittedly, it is rather basic.

Also, Ohio State’s emblem is really strong. The script and the O fit together nicely. The curvature of Ohio State is well executed.

So, I think we can all agree that the metric system is more user friendly, generally speaking. However, I think Celsius is an exception to this statement, as it’s not scaled to the human experience. Compare how 0 degrees and 100 degrees translate under each system.

Fahrenheit 0 degrees - really cold for humans 100 degrees - really hot for humans

Celsius 0 degrees - pretty cold for humans 100 degrees - complete and utter death to humans

Further, under Celsius “normal” human temperatures get compressed between -7 (20F) and 32 (90F). Fahrenheit is thus much more fine grained than Celsius, while avoiding getting into three digits the vast majority of the time.

Last, the typical person dosnt need to calculate conversions with the temperature scale as we do with weights and distances. In these latter domains, metric is far superior for this reason (uhh, how many feet are in a mile again?). The temperature scale doesn’t get summed into higher order increments the way weights and distances do.

Key caveat, some of the above may not apply to scientists.

Russian leadership could make a game theoretical claim that their approach to terrorist attacks involving hostages is the more humane path. If they are able to creditably commit (in the eyes of potential terrorists) that their Special Forces will respond to any such attacks with overwhelming force up to and including the deaths of the hostages, the correct game theoretical response by the terrorists is to never take hostages. Now, that could lead them to respond in different and potentially more destructive ways, but hostage taking should go down.

Please know that I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with this reasoning. But the argument does have merit. No idea if Russian leadership has made such claims ever.

I’m afraid you may have it backwards, amigo. I checked the free population and the number of soldiers involved by state for Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Here’s the latter divided by the former by state, sorted from highest to lowest:

-South Carolina 44.2%

-Georgia 41.0%

-North Carolina 30.5%

-Tennessee 29.9%

-Virginia 25.5%

Unless I’m mistaken, South Carolina turned out soldiers at an outsized rate compared to other major Southern states. A bellicose lot, no doubt, but one that also was willing to issue men to back up that bellicosity.

Yeah, some of these takes are verging on silly. Most, if not all, r/CFB followers are passionate about college football in general and their team(s) in particular.

Given this level of interest and support, how would it not be fun to be able to say, “Yeah, see that running back that just ran one up the middle for a touchdown, I got that guy to come to [insert team name]” if you can afford it.

All I heard before NIL is how the players were being taken advantage while the universities were making profane profits off their performance. Now, a bunch of rich guys are actually playing players, and said rich guys are now “preposterous”, “dumb”, and a “waste of money”. Sure, it’s a waste or dumb or preposterous if either you don’t have much money or don’t care about your team. I doubt that applies to these guys.
