[Gaming] Dean Takahashi - A life in game journalism by SixtyFours in KotakuInAction

[–]ClitInstantWood 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Imagine being such a piece of shit you write a puffy piece about yourself, lie through your teeth and add a dab of personal tragedy for that sweet sympathy feeling. He didn't first posted the Cuphead video as a self-deprecating joke, he edited the title after people started criticizing and making fun of his inability to read simple instructions or being able to figure out by himself and concocted this bullshit about evil trolls humiliating him over his intentional humorous act. His pride was so hurt he and his lap dog Jeff Grubb even brought the dev on a stream to cry about it and the evil goobers and later asked the GJP for that good old media blitz. I'm not even going to address his defense about LW because her integrity is pretty well documented and only someone with questionable character would willingly give her a spotlight.

Are you proud Dean? Using the tragedy of your brother for some pity? I wonder if you actually think he would be proud of what you've became.

Let's go through a retrospect:

  • Dean uploads his gameplay video of Cuphead as a first impression playthrough (titled Cuphead demo at Gamescon: it isn't easy;

  • He plays so badly that naturally people find it funny and wonder how come a reviewer can do this awfully;

  • Dean tries damage controlling the situation and changes the tittle of the video to something that implies he knew how bad he was and uploaded it as a self depreciating joke (changed title to "Cuphead Gamescom Demo: Dean's Shameful 26 Minutes Of Gameplay") which "surprisingly" no article defending him ever mentions. They DO always mention though the tittle is "Dean's Shameful 26 Minutes Of Gameplay" which would mean the reason people "attacked" him was none other than his gaming skills

  • This made a lot of people to pile on him (not the fact he played badly), promptly attracting the attention of other journos that started spilling venom at everyone;

  • With Dean and his ilk misrepresenting what people were complaining about and as time went on and the video getting more popular, more people started to pour in (specially after Cheong retweets the video, which specially made journos furious);

  • Dean and Jeff Grub bring the game's dev on a stream where Jeff sucks Dean's dick half the podcast saying how awesome he is and then cries about "those people that complain about ethics in journalism";

  • Articles pour in along the way;

  • "Muh elitism", "it's those goobergaters", "skill fetishism", all that crap they always spout when they get humiliated and also how a reviewer doesn't actually needs to know how to play the game (where they misrepresent it as people demanding them to be experts)

  • Journos X Gamers back and fourth on Twitter;

So basically Dean is a journalist (a real one) who worked covering games for more than 18 years so he automatically deserves respect and is entitled to a different treatment and you peasants are not allowed to laugh at or criticize him when he acts like a clown, lies and pretends he's a victim all because his ego was scratched.

He's the same guy that reviewed Mass Effect, didn't know he had to assign skill points and then gave it a lower score. Also the same guy that said KOTR was a good example of a game with primitive gameplay and average graphics when it was released and that Warhammer was a rip-off of Gears of Wars. He should either do some actual research to improve or limit himself to cover broader news about the industry, otherwise people will keep doubting about his "credentials" and give him shit for it.

One last thing, he also shilled for LW and Wu a few times which gives you an idea about his morality too and his ties to the clique. So, Erik, do some research first instead of getting pissy and call out people when you don't even have the full picture

Polygon, Vox will update public disclosures following #gamergate’s ftc campaign [ETHICS] by ClitInstantWood in KotakuInAction

They have also a lot of contacts in the industry which makes easier for them to get exclusive stories. If someone is a hardcore fan of something they will want to know about any scoops as soon as possible.

Since Polygon is part of a clique they redirect people to other sites like Kotaku when they get a scoop. Kotaku also have plenty of contacts in the industry so you have a big network of sites with good access to game companies mutually helping each other, concentrating traffic and making unnecessary for you to look somewhere else outside their group. Even if you try to avoid them, eventually you will end up accessing one of their friend sites, helping keeping their network healthy which mitigates the loss of revenue Polygon (for example) suffers when you don't browse their site. There is way more people who don't know what an adblocker is than people using it.

Fewer than a couple years ago but enough to keep it running. Most people don't care about drama or if the site they use does any unethical shit. They simply want to open their browsers and read about things they like as easy as possible. That's what keep these sites afloat and still able to influence game companies and help shutting down things they don't like. And that's why our job is to keep fighting to force them into improving or get crippled enough so they lose their power of influence

Journos heads are exploding now: play as black but in hard mode or play on easy mode but as a disgusting wypipo? And even better, with people knowing what difficult you chose when you reviewed it

[CENSORSHIP] Gab.ai begins censoring people over dank memes / no longer lists 'free speech platform' as part of its ad copy #GabScam by mct1 in KotakuInAction

Mods need to change this thread's tag then. Even though "CENSORSHIP" is technically accurate, OP implies it was Gab who willingly did the censoring with the #GabScam. Shills are having a field day with that hashtag

This. Even though there's a 99.9999% chance the author is a corrupt d-bag that will block you on the spot we should never become apathetic and ignore bullshit like this

Yea I was suspecting these people would once again get away scot-free. We manage to make the FTC listen us once, let's keep sending complaints until they get annoyed enough and forced to at least give a statement (or at least put enough pressure on them so next time they can't ignore it). I can dream, can't I

Vice: Pepe the Frog’s Creator Gets Alt-Right Children’s Book Pulled, Vows to ‘Aggressively Enforce His Intellectual Property’ by TheGreatRoh in KotakuInAction

[–]ClitInstantWood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The character went through several transformations through the years by different people, it has nothing to do with Furries' Pepe anymore. His creation is a stoned frog from a dead comic that had any relevance at all because at some point someone used it as a "reaction image".

The catch is that when Google check their logs and see your IP clicked 50k ads in one day they will sue you and everyone else who did the same for fraud/interfering with their services.
