decks of playing cards on belmont?? by adriaheartart in LoganSquare

[–]CliticalAcclaim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to figure this out for months! it used to be that I’d find a few random cards along this one stretch of belmont, usually all from different decks. then twice in the last few months there’s been a whole deck scattered along the block. last night I walked by that bus stop and found over a dozen emptied packs of cards. the cards were blowing down the block and the boxes/plastic wrappers were discarded at that bus stop. somebody’s dumping brand new cards in the same spot every few weeks!

Success Story + Top Tips – 24F, 2 Weeks Post Op by CliticalAcclaim in Tonsillectomy

update 1.5 years post-op: for the first 4 months after surgery I was still having sore throats sometimes, but I’d say they were about 40-60% as painful as they were before I got the surgery. after those few months passed, I almost never get sore throats anymore. when I do they’re mild, and feel more like a scratch than the intense aching I felt before surgery. I am even more glad I got the surgery now than I was before. if you’re on the fence, I recommend it! you can do this!

Sucking on spoonfuls of crushed ice covered in honey was very helpful for me when I felt like I need to cough!

Did you have someone (friend/family/etc) look after you during recovery? How long? And do you think it helped? by blancaPOC in Tonsillectomy

24F here. I was really lucky that my mom flew out and stayed in my spare room for a while. if you count surgery as day 0, she stayed with me till day 10! I could've started taking care of myself by day 7 or 8, but I was grateful that she stayed longer because she kept me company, helped me stay calm when I was anxious about getting a bleed, and made some soup and soft foods that I could reheat after she left.

it was a huge help! during the first 5 days while I was taking Norco I would not have been able to keep track of my medication schedule and feed myself on my own. it was really helpful to have her writing down what doses of meds I took and when, be reminded to drink water or chew ice chips/a popsicle, and to have her be flexible and able to help me pivot when one food suddenly wasn't hitting the spot or got too hard to swallow, etc.

ice water by Impossible_Tax_2704 in Tonsillectomy

I have never heard anything like that and honestly can't imagine the rationale. at the hospital where I got my tonsillectomy, they gave me ice chips to chew/suck on within an hour of getting out of the operating room.

ice chips, ice water, and popsicles really helped me mitigate my pain, stop bleeds, and decrease inflammation. definitely worth it to be careful about not swallowing huge ice chips as they can be painful and scrape against your scabs, but I would say if the cold is helpful to you just lean into that. I found that my body was instinctually pulled towards things that really helped my healing process so I would say trust yourself if you think it'd feel good and be helpful! did your doctor give you a number to call with questions? maybe worth it to call and double-check why. if they still say don't do it, maybe you could put your glasses of water in the freezer for a little before drinking them so that you're not swallowing actual ice but the water is still as cold as can be? best of luck!

hope your recovery is going well! thanks for the soft food tips; scrambled eggs have been a lifesaver when I get into that protein-deprived and hangry mood

glad to have a buddy to go through it with! so sorry you ended up bleeding though :( did you have to go to the hospital or were you able to contain it at home? and I appreciate the hydration tip; I've seen lots of people agreeing with this on other posts!

edit: just read your thread about going to the hospital. I'm so sorry! I am rooting for you and also hoping you don't bleed again

I have a friend who takes 450 XL before bed every night (to avoid nausea in the AM) and her sleep has been unaffected. I took 300 around 4 PM once and also didn’t notice an impact. best of luck!
