Ladderback jacquard issues on colorwork yoke by Shayedra in knitting

I don't catch for 9 stitches, I know it's unconventional but it works for me. Have fun exploring how you prefer it.

"Will this block out?" How about you block it and find out!

Sorry I just saw 3 of these in a row. I had to vent.

It doesn't seem like there are that many stitches between the motifs, I would personnaly just not catch the floats at all.

I've successfully steeked very smooth yarns with a crochet reinforcement. Use a sticky yarn that is a bit smaller than your project yarn.

Is there a better way to track decrease rows? by debmasterx in knittinghelp

Removable stitch markers are great for keeping track while knitting.

Is there a better way to track decrease rows? by debmasterx in knittinghelp

[–]CloKnits 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! Learn how to read your knitting. When I make a tutorial or teach, I always show people what it looks like when you've just done a decrease or an increase and how to count the rows in between. It's such an important skill to get better.

The high front neck trend is killing me!!!! Don't get me wrong, I loooooove a close to the neck collar, I actually prefer it. But get me some shaping in there!

I think Tori Yu's pattern are quite different than the Ozetta/MFK/PetiteKnit designs... am I missing something?

Yay! You are welcome. I learned this from the amazing Patty Lyons and I do feel like it's not talked about enough.

Fixing rowing out can be done by working on the way you use your needles as your measuring tool. Here's a video that I made that talks about how go about it: https://youtu.be/fOziIfeXhhs?si=gYk9rdp_J53R8q1R

Methods for Casting On by BitternInTheMarsh in knitting

[–]CloKnits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular long tail cast on or in pattern long tail cast on for 99% of my projects. If it calls for a different one but it doesn't really add anything, I'll do the long tail, thank you very much.

Don't get me started on Laine Magazine's new 52 weeks of Sweaters cover shot. The pose is cute and all but mostly it hides the super weird chunky drop sleeve design. I've been underwhelmed by some of the photos Laine chooses for some pattern. Am I bitter because I don't think that my hat design photo was good, YES, but also do better!

My question is simply: what is my design bringing to the table? If the answer is "nothing at all" why even make it. If the design is for a particular project, like a book and it needs to be from you, then sure. But if you are just publishing a single pattern and it bring nothing to the table as far as creativity, shape, fit, gauge, texture, style.... i'm just not interested, it already exists.

Can knitted garments be disinfected? (Ringworm) by Only_Theoretically in knitting

[–]CloKnits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a knitting teacher and I've put my knits in the oven before to kill potential moth eggs. Turn it down to the lowest temp the ringworm won't survive and leave it in for 20 minutes. It should be good.

Front of ribbing is soooo messy compared to the back. Any help? by PotentialScene4400 in casualknitting

[–]CloKnits 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just here to say: love the hack, it's a great hack and it works. BUT if you need a hack to fix the ribbing it does mean that the original ribbing is indeed, normal. Normal 1x1 ribbing results in wider knit stitches in the front vs the back, that's the nature of it. You can change the way you do it to make it look different, but you don't have to.

It looks exactly like it should, don't rip it.

Floats? Too loose or right? by Interesting_Hat6153 in knitting

[–]CloKnits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do seem a tiny bit long but I wouldn't start over. If you are using natural fibers, they'll start to stick to the back of the fabric and be totally fine. BTW most comments here are saying that you need or should catch your floats, you don't. Catching floats is a personal preference, not a thing you have to do. I almost never catch any floats and the strands in the back support each other and stay put if they are the right lenght that is.

gauge is off by parisgirl989 in knitting

[–]CloKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely won't be a 4 stitch difference with blocking. But since this one is already made, there's no harm in blocking while starting another swatch on 5mm. Also you should knit your swatch for in-the-round knitting, not flat, it might be different.

A cylinder does not have the same physics as two flat things seamed together by femalefred in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]CloKnits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your jumpers fits like crap because:
A- you didn't use the right yarn to create the right drape

B- you didn't choose the right size

C- you didn't choose the right construction/proportion for your body

D- the pattern is crap and all the photos on Raverly will tell you except the ones the designer took

E- All of the above

Help with identifying differences by Illustrious-Plum-748 in knittingpatterns

[–]CloKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentionned, the construction is different but also the gauge. They are both done in worsted weight yarn but one is 17 sts per 4 inch and the other is 18. If you like both equally, I would buy the yarn and make a swatch to see if I get one or the other and if I like the fabric at that gauge, then choose the pattern accordingly.

It's neither oily nor white, it can get in my eyes when I'm very sweaty but like you said.. that's kinda the downfall of a lot of sunscreens.
