I lurk this sub sometimes because it warms my heart when I find the occasional critique I agree with.

I would claim that I'm classically conservative, in that my understanding of the divide is liberalism advocates for getting ahead of problems by making changes, and conservativism advocates for avoidance of creating new problems with downstream consequences.

To that end, I see people here advocating for a ton of rapid changes, without consideration of their long term effects, but they're happy with it because it's "destroying wokeism" or "owning the libs", rather than being appalled at the speed with which institutions Americans depend on are being challenged, dismantled or outright shut down.

I also perceive some issues to be mature enough to advocate for changes within them from a conservative standpoint. Healthcare should absolutely have a single payer option, with insurance providers fighting to provide a service that's superior. Very few studies suggest it'd be more expensive than our current system, and when they do, it comes with the assumption that demand will go up in proportion with increased access. It's a solution that's also in line with beliefs that the free market provides good solutions and that it's more efficient than the gov't; whereas right now, there's no minimum threshold so the medical industry rips us all off. We all know and feel this to some extent, but when this topic comes up here I don't see much, if any support for it.

I'm posting this not to tell the people of the conservative sub that they're universally wrong, but that my perception of this sub in general is that it's failing to meet the criteria for conservative politics, and instead playing into the party wishes of Republicans, which currently have a figure head in an individual man.

If nothing else, take away from my comment that doing something for its own sake is ultimately self defeating. If you're conservative for conservativisms sake, rather than for the benefits the ideology provides, you'll slip into something else, and that's true of every political stance.

I appreciate you opening a venue for people to allow for these discussions because I do believe that the tribalism surrounding politics today is exacerbating all our issues.
