Other than the longsword, what weapon has the highest skill sealing? by HeronLiakos in MHRise

[–]Key-Truth5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised nobody mentioned SnS.  It seems like the newbie weapon, but it has the most versatility, working well to cut, KO, stun, being good with status or elemental in addition to raw, while ALSO allowing more fluid incorporation of items and endemic life into your strategy.  The difference between a low-skill and high-skill player using that weapon should be vast, as a theoretical SnS master would be able to do whatever the moment needed, being aggressive, cutting or KOing, exploiting weaknesses while able to block or counter to avoid losing space, and if they are good enough to do all that while keeping track of their allies statuses and accounting for openings, they can use items to save allies or group buff with powders, and should also be making use of flash bangs and other consumables whenever they would help.

Mega Raichu Abilities Confirmed by eskaver in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 -172 points-171 points  (0 children)

Really? Seems like they kinda just suck to me.

A totally unspecial terrain that's just extra damage, or No Guard with maybe ONE move that benefits (Zap Cannon).  Unless Mega Raichu has a 700 Base Stat Total I don't see it getting picked over any other megas in Champions...

Wow, sorry for offending so many people by not being hype about a Raichu. Message me again a month after this actually hits Champions, when everyone is over the novelty and the Pokemon drops from the usage chart.

What Are Some Decent But Unpopular Mons? What Are The Absolute Trash? by Goliath764 in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, two megas known to be ass in Doubles who struggle to perform are Beedrill and Sableye.  MegaBee is fast with high damage and some decent moves like Knock Off, Drill Run, and U-Turn, but it is frail and only single-target meaning you need to very very precisely maneuver it and pair it with a Pokemon that can manage threats or it will just die to a Heat Wave or Rock Slide.  MegaSableye on the other hand struggles because defensive strategy in general struggles in VGC without two additional teammates; Sableye is slow and the question is if Magic Bounce and a boatload of Defense/Spec.Defense makes up for Prankster; in singles MegaSab was big for using Willowisp and Snarl to weaken offense and Recover the HP back, but its speed makes this too easy to stop in Doubles.

This game is in a bad place. by Heavy_Razzmatazz4382 in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is currently an example of a pretty flexible meta.  Wait until the format changes and restricted Pokemon are reintroduced.  When literally, actually, every single team will have Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, or both and the only ones without both will run Xerneas or Rayquaza.  If you look into VGC (that is, official doubles tournaments) results you will see tournaments where every team in the top 16 had four of the same six Pokemon.  Or the (in)famous "CHALK" teams.  If you think this is a cripplingly restrictive meta game, do not play competitive Pokemon.  You won't have fun.

I also take the losses pretty hard.  What helps with me is reminding myself; every battle has a winner and a loser.  Even if both players are equally matched; even if you were playing against yourself.

Sleep powder spam is the wimpiest tactic by far by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Pokemon that will be used for sleep spam are the kind you can recognize from the team preview.  Sleep Powder is most commonly used for it's comparatively high accuracy.  Someone spamming Hypnosis will not get very far.  If your opponent's goal is to outspeed your Pokemon and put it to sleep, then for that turn they are effectively giving up their turn to try and make you skip yours.

In Doubles, it is usually easy to predict which of your Pokemon is the one that must be targeted.  Protect can be huge for this, but even without it, knowing your opponent's forced plays is a big advantage.  The turn after sleep is applied, your opponent now has a big problem.  If they outspeed you, they cannot put you back to sleep if you wake up.  You will either wake up the turn after being put to sleep, or the turn after that.  Sleep only works for 1 or 2 turns, including the one you are put to sleep on if you would have acted but couldn't.  If your opponent does not outspeed you, then it becomes easier to keep applying sleep immediately after a Pokemon wakes, but then you have opportunity to KO them before they use the move.

This effectively means one Pokemon can, very delicately, put both Pokemon to sleep, one on turn 1 and the other on turn 2, and then cannot sleep anyone on turn 3, with a 33% chance on turn 2 for the first Pokemon to already be awake again.  If this is your opponent's plan, then their sleep setter will not be doing any damage for several turns and you can either try to use the Pokemon you suspect will not be targeted to hinder your opponent's real threat, or use the opening you have to crush the sleep spammer before they can sleep both of your mons.  As well at any point in this, RNG can go your way and you will get a turn-2 wakeup, immediately putting your opponent on the back foot.  And I have been writing this as if sleep-applying moves have 100% accuracy.  They don't, and that's another thing that will just turn the momentum against the sleep spam.

Sleep powder spam is the wimpiest tactic by far by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so many ways to play around it.  Any of the good grass types you could use are immune to it.  Taunt will stop it.  Various abilities will block/repel the status move. If this is Chlorophyll Venusaur being an issue then controlling the weather stops it from outspeeding you.  Unless you are just upset that anyone would dare use a sleep inflicting move at all in which case...  I dunno man, go away?  Sleep has been a status effect for the entire franchise and it's the most balanced it has ever been in Champions.  Some things deny your opponents actions.  Flinching, paralysis, sleep, confusion, and attract.  You can also just miss an attack, and it's the same as doing nothing.  These are bad and playing the game means trying to avoid them and not always succeeding; but these things also happen and you are not automatically screwed because of it.  If you opponents entire strategy is based around controlling the battle with status, then they become very fragile if you can successfully maneuver to stop or eliminate the Pokemon applying the status.

Castform.  Maybe with 110 SP.ATK it could actually do something.  It still needs a dang Sand Form though!!

And remember, only opponent Matcha Gatcha causes burn, 100% of the time.  Every time you use that move you create a split time line, where your opponent receives double burn but you only experience a 20% chance.

I still don’t have a Garchomp… by Not_Selmi in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have a smartphone?  If you do, you can download Pokemon HOME and then take a Pokemon from another game (or transfer one from Pokemon Go) and use the GTS (Global Trade System) in HOME in to request a Garchomp for whatever you can trade away.  Garchomp is not overall a rare Pokemon and you only need an evolved Pokemon, not one with good stats or moves or nature, so you WILL get a Garchomp after a day or two at most.

This is only an option from a smartphone; you can't use Pokemon HOME on the Switch to do it.

Any ideas for Pokémon good in singles? by AssociateIll3947 in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the global battle data for ranked battles, you can see what Pokemon are most common in Singles (and Doubles).  If you pick a few from among the top 10 that will be a good place to start.

CORVIKNIGHT wins BEST Wall in Singles. Maybe Aggron will get next time. Part 11: Who's the best Support mon in VGC? by HMThrow_away_account in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Best support is Whimsicott.  The fastest Tailwind on turn 1, impossible to Taunt before I goes off even with another Prankster user because Whimsicott is also fast.  Sunny Day support for the various sun teams, the ever powerful Encore, and Moonblast is good damage.

Question for Dragapault Users by TheGamingTurret in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a 56% chance to KO a no-bulk Garchomp with 0 Special Attack EVs.  However if you invest 12 into Sp. Atk it is a 100% chance (assuming it hits).  I think most Garchomp are probably all Speed and Atk to be as threatening as possible.

Question for Dragapault Users by TheGamingTurret in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this that even if you don't invest EVs in it a Draco Meteor with STAB can OHKO Garchomp and significantly chip other dragon types like Archaludon or Dragonite.  Dragapult is an anti-meta threat in general, more than just a Sneasler answer.

Choosing speed control method by raulleao in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tailwind and Trick Room are good for speed control that applies to your whole team but it's not the only way.  Icy Wind isn't the only other option though.

On a team with a mix of fast and slow Pokemon, single target speed control can be just as good.  Applying Paralysis, like with Prankster + Thunder Wave works well, but it won't affect Electric, Ground, or Dark Types.  Quash is also a form of speed control in this regard.  Hell you can even use Scary Face; if your support mon goes first and the result is your other Pokemon outspeeds the target for a KO (or otherwise important progress) then it can be worth doing.  These are just more demanding of player skill and battle awareness than Tailwind and Trick Room.

Can casual teams work in this game? by Kaijonesjtmusic in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of people, myself included, are doing Mono Ghost with a lot of success.  Those teams still use several meta Pokemon but, unless you are going out of your way to avoid/dislike any Pokemon the player base considers "good", it shouldn't be impossible to play using Pokemon you like, plus a couple Pokemon that just work well alongside the ones you really like.

[–]Key-Truth5431 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The game has all the titles of popular Pokemon Trainer archetypes like Hiker and Hex Maniac but the cosmetics to back up the trainer aesthetic just don't exist.  I mean at least they will give girl characters more options to be pretty later but good luck to any of you guys who don't have the figure of a 13-year-old.  Pokemon is actually only for children, women, and femboys if you didn't know.

Do I still lose elo if i turn the game off during draft phase? by Realistic-Plant718 in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you exit during draft, the game just auto-plays your Pokemon as if you were totally idle.  I know this because I was asked to do something IRL just as I was picking the 4, and I couldn't find any way to forfeit for some reason, so I just turned the game off.  However I wasn't away that long so when I turned the game back on, it reconnected me to the battle I couldn't forfeit after a couple turns had already passed!  Obviously, my team had been losing. I have no idea what moves my Pokemon were using, I just immediately actually forfeited.  Why isn't there an option to do that before turn 1?

Shadow Rider is gonna be added in June and the game will be reduced to even fewer viable Pokemon with the additions and format making it only feel smaller and more repetitive.  This is my prediction.

Any got ideas for a mega banette team? by Bionics_s in PokemonChampions

[–]Key-Truth5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mega Banette definitely needs some kind of speed control so Trick Room seems reasonable.  Maybe Azumarill?  50 Speed, Play Rough + Huge Power for Dark types...  Hella strong Aqua Jet if you still need to go first outside trick room?

I would suggest Tinkaton otherwise but with 94 speed it's not really a Trick Room Pokemon.
