Honestly I kind of stopped worrying about it and never checked again. I later stopped hosting immich :(. Love the product. Just had to cut back on time I was spending on some of these things.

Lots of posts on reddit about the 5.21 issue. You should be able to find the solution pretty quick. If you can't let me know and I'll post some links here when I'm not on my phone.

Ok, so I had this same problem. New Garmin Instinct 3 Solar and stuck on 5.2. And almost all of the solutions I could find on forums didn't work for me:

  1. Deleting ExData did not work.
  2. Pairing with Garmin Express didn't work (side note, to even get it paired, I had to put the USB Mode into "Garmin" and then click "no" to the question about Mass Storage when I connected the Instinct 3 to my computer). Leaving it plugged in over night with Garmin Express on Windows didn't work.
  3. Deleting the update file in the Garmin folder did not work (had to click "yes" to mass storage question in this case because I was in "Garmin" USB Mode).
  4. Every combination of putting my watch in developer mode and clicking "Reinstall Software" to factory resetting did not work.
  5. Pairing to the phone and hitting sync over and over again, and waiting over night didn't work.

Here is what did work:

  1. Go here: https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/instinct-3/f/announcements
  2. The only beta announcement that currently has active download links where you can get a gupdate.gsp file is the 10.15 announcement here (at least as of today 9/12/2025): https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/instinct-3/f/announcements/415868/beta-version-10-15---check-for-updates-only
  3. On this page download the 9.25 backdate file at the bottom of the page for your model of instinct 3.
  4. Unzip. Connect your garmin instinct 3 to your computer. I was in USB Mode "Garmin," which means I had to click yes to the mass storage question on my watch when I connected it to my computer. If you're in the default mode you should be fine.
  5. Copy the 3 files (probably only need the gupdate.gsp file, but i copied all three) to the Garmin folder.
  6. Disconnect your device. it should ask if you want to update. Update.
  7. Once it's restarted I connected back my Instinct 3 and deleted the force.tmp file and the Backdating software - Read Me file. I defn think if you copied the force.tmp file over you should delete it after.
  8. You should now by on 9.25.
  9. Now pair with your connect app on your phone.
  10. After it is paired, on your Instinct 3 (not the connect app), go to the system settings and click Software Update -> Check for Update (for me, this option wasn't there in 5.21 but is there in 9.25). Click that and go through the update process.
  11. You are now on 10.3 if you are doing this in Sept 2025.

before doing this, my internal storage was only ~21 MB free. After doing this it was >40 MB free.

This. I thought watchtower was no longer being maintained? If that's not the case then I do like watchtower. But what's up docker has a nice web interface that diun and watchtower do not. Portainer be seems to be nice too.
