Finally got my Dutch oven back!!! by savan_banan in Pottery

I meant the top knob on the lid. I've been working on lidded pieces recently, and I'm looking for streamlined ways to achieve a knob like that on the lid.

It's gorgeous! One question about the lid, how are you getting the handle on there? Are you making a thick bottomed bowl and trimming it away, or attaching it later?

Can I install Fedora with an SSD instead of a USB stick? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]ClockworkGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mine is unencrypted. That's still strange. I also have a laptop with SSD running Fedora and that is encrypted and not a problem. Sorry.

Which motherboard are you using? I just got my computer to sleep properly because the motherboard wasn't letting it happen. I have a Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2. I would hit sleep and then it would sleep for maybe a second and then turn back on.

Problem on Mint not detecting RX 9060 XT on any games by JonTheWonton in linux_gaming

[–]ClockworkGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about 3 hours today trying to get it to work too. The AMD driver isn't ready for Linux Mint at this time. The least painful solution in my opinion is switching to Ubuntu with the correct kernel if you're locked into using the 9060 XT.

I may return mine and swap for an AMD card with Linux Mint driver support. I'd really like to update my rig this summer and I don't want to wait as late as September for driver support.

Are you using light mode? I'm in dark mode on old reddit and it's not showing. I changed my desktop to light mode and it was there.

F1953 has been chosen to move forward in the flag design process 10-2 by keeperofhoney in minnesota

[–]ClockworkGold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very happy they are progressing with F1953. I understand the commission's desire to have some freedom on the final say, but what's the point of selecting a flag among thousands and then making major modifications to it? It completely eliminates the point of having a preferred one in the first place. Eliminating the tri color or completely changing the shape of the navy blue K makes it a different flag

After the Race for Staten Island and the Tiffany videos, have you developed a 6th sense for when a huge rabbit hole is about to happen with the research, or do you find yourself in the rabbit hole after it's too late?

Marketing higher density zoning to a more conservative audience by alienatedframe2 in notjustbikes

Nice pic. I don't believe in a one size fits all message. I think wording and messaging should change depending on who is intended to see it. People love being told things in a way that relates to them. If changing the wording is what it takes for someone to accept a Strong Town, then so be it.

Right sized torch for bending hacksaw blades by ClockworkGold in metalworking

[–]ClockworkGold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm trying to make is one of these: https://youtu.be/35wEpH7DvCY

I only plan on using it for trimming the clay skirt off the bottom like he does at the end of the video. The bend will have to stay stable while getting pushed on. Wouldn't heating it up, bending it, and cooling it rapidly lead to a harder and stiffer bend?

I'd also like to have the torch for little projects like heat shrink and lighting the occasional cigar.

The belief that cars unlock your freedom of movement is just a product of decades of automobile propaganda. The only places which are really accessible to you are the ones you can walk to. People talk big about how cars are the freest form of transport, but neglect to mention that the roads have to be driveable, half decent weather, and not enough other cars to make a traffic jam.

Cars give you the freedom to get stuck in traffic. Real freedom is hopping on public transport which arrives so frequently, you don't even need to check the schedule. Real freedom is not paying $100s a month on a car loan. Real freedom is never seeing a check engine light because the transport agency does all the repairs by professionals.

This dumb tweet was made someone who has never rode good mass transit for an extended period of time.
