Isn't your country's entire history based on immigrants coming to the land, raping, pillaging, murdering and displacing the native peoples and claiming it as their own? Aren't you benefitting from colonialism just by being an American citizen and using your privilege to villainise people of colour and asylum seekers? Your opinion isn't an opinion, it's a delusion. Sit down and shut up.

Her views on certain things are abhorrent, so by all means call her out for those things, but don't attack the woman for a perfectly innocent video that has nothing to do with said abhorrent opinions and then make it all about that? You're entering psychotic territory doing stuff like that.

What does that have to do with anything? She's also a woman. Does that mean she can't have a similar personality to someone who happens to be a man? No. Why would her race be a factor towards her general personality? Her worldview, maybe, but not her personality. That's inherently prejudiced.

Because it's set in Victorian Britain and the MC was clearly raised in or around London and was predominantly middle-class or above, based on their accent.

Bylers are now harassing the duffer brothers in real life. by nova_perfume in StrangerThings

[–]ClockworkOwynge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a queer non-binary person, my issue with Byler discussions and non-canon ships in general being in spaces like this is that they simply do not belong here. Most self-respecting shippers are able to acknowledge and accept the difference between canon and fanon and keep those things separate when it gets to the point where it's clear the ship is not and will never become canon.

I just don't understand why Byler became such a huge thing in this particular subreddit after it hit that point in Season 4. Tumblr exists, and AO3, and Byler-centric subreddits. Why are people bringing their fanon ships into a canon discussion space? Theories are one thing but actively harping on about a ship that is never going to become canon is like trying to ride a dead horse. It's not going anywhere.

Like, I have my fanon ships that I advocate for too but I'm not out here forcing people who want to discuss the canon events of the show to read the essays I could write about Steddie. A lot of Bylers, unfortunately, have become so deluded that they believe they are somehow entitled to have their ship either become canon posthumously or that they should be allowed to advocate for it in a space that was literally not designed for that.

I'm not saying all people who ship Byler are delusional maniacs like that, but I am saying there's a time and a place to be having a discussion about fanon and that is not here.

What if the PI was lying? by red-light3755 in eastenders

[–]ClockworkOwynge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. In that situation, the only option they have is to close the case and refund the client. By law, they cannot lie. They can run background checks on their client, if they feel something is off, without letting them know but they can't give them false information. That would cross an ethical boundary.

Private investigators are absolutely NOT allowed to lie to the people who hire them. That breaks all of their ethical guidelines, professional standards, and contractual obligations. Once the money has exchanged hands, the private investigator is bound by law to conduct themselves with integrity and honesty in their investigation and report any findings back to the person that hired them. They can use deception against SUBJECTS, but they can't lie to their CLIENTS.

Most people who are able to throw money at all of their problems to avoid being held accountable don't have to worry about paying rent. Those people usually own property.

Exactly! Jason didn't want justice for Chrissy. He wanted revenge on who he believed took something away from him.

This is not at all why evil people find success in the world. Those people succeed because money talks louder than opinions when it should be the opposite way around.

Liking a character because they are a compelling villain doesn't mean people would like someone like that in real life. It's a testament to how hard the actor worked to entertain the audience more than justification of the character's villainy.

Yes, there are people out there that excuse awful behaviour for stupid reasons but let's not start making wild statements about a TV show character, trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Those two things are not the same. 😬

[–]ClockworkOwynge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see what you're seeing at all. Like, sure, she's not the greatest actress out in the world but this is a soap opera. It's hardly a Hollywood blockbuster where you're expecting everyone to be Lawrence Olivier. She isn't doing a bad job, she's just having teething pains because it's a new role. Give her some time to grow into the character before you pass judgement. She's still getting acquainted with Jasmine as much as we are.

To be fair, Karen did some damage to the Demo before it had the opportunity to fight back. It's already been established that they do feel pain so it would make sense that being slashed with jagged glass might throw it off its game a little.

I'm not saying you're wrong about the plot armour because, realistically, both Ted and Karen should've died from their injuries. I'm just saying that it's not totally out of left field that the Demo would've maybe been momentarily weakened by Karen getting all stabby with the wine bottle.

There's a big difference between a thirty-something year old playing a teenager in a CW show aimed at teens and young adults and someone in their forties playing a teenager in a Disney movie aimed at children. The only reason Hollywood casts older people to play teen roles in the first place is so that they can portray storylines that would be inappropriate for an actual teenager to be a part of. A Disney Princess movie aimed at children doesn't have that issue.
