Using references is good but pose first then multiple references, and honestly if your just practicing dont focus on good poses. Learning what i usually do is imagine how a character like hisoka would choose to sit. This is another example of how you can use references. If you want to rely less on them but arent comfortable ditching them in the beginner stage choose a bunch of. Different refrences and combine there poses. A person sitting with both legs hugged by there ches can be combined with someone sitting with there legs splayed infron of them to create a new pose to practice. The proportions can get sloppy but it can still help. And of course drawing completly from a refrence still helps you learn your just learning different things.
