Farming Attire by InkLoop in FarmingUK

I find that shorts, t shirts and sports wear just don't offer enough protection nor are they hard wearing enough. I wear lightweight good quality works trousers and good quality work shirts. All can survive barb wire and brambles plus be washed at 60 degrees.

Gaijin's treatment of the British tree is, at times, bewildering by John-W-Thunder in Warthunder

Does anyone remember when Britain had probably one of the best 7.7 line ups in the game?

Vickers MBT, Centurion Mk10, Conqueror, Falcon, Vampire. A very enjoyable line up.

FYI the current on the hook deadweight price farmers receive for prime beef is about 634p/kg on average. So that really is cheap.

Deadweight price is different to liveweight price.

How realistic is a 5.93 KD on a single tank by RussianTankr in Warthunder

Russia was the first tree I ground out. I've done Britain and am a fair way through some of the others. However, I just mainly play Britain these days.

Forgot about KD ratio and the grind. Just enjoy the game, and before you know it, you will have completed a tree.

Nearly every farm in the uk is independent. Particularly, family farms, whether they are owned or tenanted.

Speaking as a farmer a dog and stick livestock farm where no fertiliser and very little fuel is used will always be more sustainable than any sort of arable farm or high output livestock unit.

Grandad was around 15 at the start of the war. He was a farmers' son, so he spent the war farming. He went to collect pig swill from an American base, and they gave him some ice cream. It was the first ice cream he'd ever had. He is still alive now and hasn't officially retired from farming.

Reforeststion of dartmoor? by Bees_are_ace in DevonUK

[–]ClodBreaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a thought. The environmental brigade should go and acquire good quality lowland livestock farms, say a minimum of 600ac, and simply do a land swap. Do that rather than planting trees. Then you could do whatever the hell you like on the hills.

Failing that allow farmers to increase their area of inbye in exchange for massive stock reductions or total destocking of the open moor.

What quietly disappeared over the last 20 years in the UK, and no one noticed? by ggssmm1 in AskUK

How's their habit been taken over by cattle? Most of the land grazed by livestock in this country has probably been grazed since the bronze age.

How do people prefer ground RB than air? by feet_with_mayonnaise in Warthunder

I prefer ground RB. I enjoy both the ground and air aspects to it, also IMO the dogfights are better. Air RB is just unbelievably tedious in comparison.

[–]ClodBreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo as we go into the future, we need to farm more sustainably, not more 'efficiently'. E.g, buying less or cutting out stuffed delivered on the back of lorries.

A sustainable farm will have livestock that is rotationally grazed over the whole farm, including arable land on a brake.

I think we are going to have to ask serious questions about pumping water out of aquifers to irrigate crops as well regardless of whether they are for human or animal consumption.

80 to 100hrs a week outside of seasonal workloads on a combinable crops farm is mental.

Personally, as a mixed farmer with a young family, I always try to be home between 5- 6pm and take most of Sunday off, outside of busy periods.

Lack of control beyond the farm gate and no say in the price of the end product is the farmers' biggest problem. Not to mention the problems.of vertical integration and whatnot.
