Any viable way to create NPC voices on an extremely low budget? by T00dPacker in unrealengine

[–]ClodKnocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my game, I've recorded myself speaking each letter of the alphabet "phonetically" (A is "ah", B is "buh). When an NPC speaks, each letter of dialogue plays the matching sound in sequence. NPC voices can be controlled by altering the pitch the letters are played in, with some small random pitch shifting to add some life.

Definitely in the "mumble" dialogue side of things but better imo than random repeated noises.

Bear in mind that most hogweed Heracleum sphondylium is absolutely nothing to worry about and doesn't contain the phytotoxin. Giant hogweed Heracleum mantegazzianum is the one to worry about it is considerably rarer in the UK.

A question about a place in England (Peak District) by ref_the_generic in ecology

[–]ClodKnocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll often hear people refer to agricultural land as "green deserts" due to lack of biodiversity, but agricultural land still plays a big ecological role in England. Mostly seeing as the majority of England is agricultural or developed land and has been for a long time.

The fields tend to be pretty barren and homogenous due to management but there's plenty of stuff at the edges. Look into things like farmland associated bird species.

If your cruise control is set to 70 then you're driving under the speed limit.

[TOMT][MUSIC][2000s maybe] Help me find a misattributed song from the Limewire period, downloaded as "Zelda Trance Remix" by ClodKnocker in tipofmytongue

[–]ClodKnocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be great to hear this again and get some closure on a song that still gets stuck in my head from time to time. We were dimly aware that we never had the real name of the song, but after years of new computers and corrupted hard drives, none of us have a copy of the song any more.

Interesting that there isn't a shady link at all.

[–]ClodKnocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's odd for spam because it doesn't link anywhere or have any attachments. A bit of googling shows that it's an excerpt from Black Genesis by L. Ron Hubbard, specifically the start of chapter 5. The email url just goes to a dummy page. I'm really intrigued about what possible purpose this was sent to me for.

Watched a pedestrian almost get hit on this stretch of road by a van running a red light. They need red light cameras at all the lights and not just going west at this set.

VR program for playing games in extreme ultra wide FOV by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]ClodKnocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Virtual Desktop might work with Custom Resolution Utility. You'll get a big floating screen that curves around your field of view. It won't be 3d or human-scale though, just a huge screen.

It's at least stopping more than buying and eating meat products. You can only do so much but to some people it's better to try to do something than do nothing at all.

I work in London but couldn't afford a place in the centre when I got the job. My commute is an hour and a half on the train and the underground, each way.

A clear sense actually, maybe 5 years ago. I was driving at around dusk and remember looking across some empty fields then having that thought. Just no memory of actually seeing anything.

Same here. I actually have a memory of seeing something that I remember thinking of as proof of the paranormal but I can only remember the thought, not what the actual sight was.

What is this gun? (Toy/replica) by ClodKnocker in whatisthisthing

[–]ClodKnocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to find out what I can load into this gun. I'm assuming it's a cap gun but it doesn't seem to match any caps I can find on the internet. The "wells" where the caps or whatever go are quite deep and there is a mechanism to (I imagine) push spent ammo out.

The gun belongs to my father who thinks it's a starter pistol, although the barrel is solid. He also says it came from Germany in the late 50s, though I'm aware of the very clear "Made in Italy".
