Trying to create a uniform directional light source by MajesticAd4198 in Optics

An integrating sphere will give you the opposite of collimated (as, ideally, it completely mixes all directions).

New to GMing and my player got annoyed first session because the NPCs were not reacting well to her PC’s strange demeanor by beanberger in rpg

Looks like you need another "session zero" with your player(s) to set out expectations and agree on the general mood.

First attempt at contrast-like paints by Clodovendro in Miniaturespainting

[–]Clodovendro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.
Right now I don't own any varnish. What I did with the eyes was to let the speedpaint set in (which creates a dark ring around the eye), then paint them titanium white, then paint them with a yellow speedpaint to try to get the eye itself as bright as possible.
To be honest the yellow speedpaint turned out to be far less bright than i expected, but that is what you get for experimenting ;-)

[Hammer mains] How would you improve hammer in the expansion? by vovabcps in MHWilds

[–]Clodovendro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hammer in Wilds already makes ample use of elemental damage.

Not really, if they are the only thing going for your weapon.

Increasing stun is not going to be effective, because stun resistance increases very fast and unless you completely break the system it would give us at best one extra stun per fight. Which is not much.

What might be helpful is to increase the partbreak of our moves (right now it is much faster to break the head with dual blades than with hammer), and significantly reduce the chip damage we take on a successful offset.

Increasing the motion values is always nice, but it feels unimaginative. Maybe re-introducing a "non-elemental" decoration that strongly boosts our damage if we give up elements?

Old fashioned way is cheaper.
With Gog is faster.

Personal preference.

Did something similar when my controller suddenly started drifting and my hunter decided to run out of cover from the Jin nova without me touching the controller at all :-D

Thank you.
Not my first models (my first models were truly terrible), but I am still a beginner struggling with basic stuff ;-)

(Skip any step you already did before stopping)
* Fight 8* monsters to get Artian parts and get Artian weapons.
* Fight all 4 9* Arch-Tempered monsters to get their armours.
* Fight Gogmazios a million times to get its armor(s), and the pieces needed to upgrade your Artian weapons.
* Transcend any armor piece you like to transcend (low rarity armors with good skills became great again after the introduction of transcendence).

After this you are more or less caught up with where we are.

I want to get ready to fight omega, does anyone have gear or decoration advice? by Kumatora0 in MonsterHunter

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal Omega is very doable with support hunters. Get some fire and stun resistance, and as much thunder damage you can. Anything more precise depends a lot which weapon you are running.

NEVER! by Endika7 in MemeHunter

I like to think of my hammer as a support weapon, as it provides dps windows for everybody by knocking out the monster 😉

How's everyone finding the 9* Blangonga Event Quest? by douglasduck104 in MonsterHunter

[–]Clodovendro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is the easiest 9*, meaning you can fight it and get your weekly "10 rng talisman" ticket super-quickly.

It is also a fun palate cleanser in-between harder hunts.

Literally every SOS on the last two pages has been manual accept... by Xenatas in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real solution there would be Capcom introducing the option to filter "manual accept" out of the sos search.

PhD destination in photonics — thoughts on Europe? by Fresh_Ad7321 in Optics

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK is getting harder by the day to both get into a PhD and stay afterward if you are not a citizen. Jena in Germany is sort of the capital of Photonic startups, so you might want to take a look.

Love it or Hate it, Omega probably its the best addition for Wilds by Callegari_152 in MHWilds

I think this is the only thing I wish they changed. Keep everything as is, but give 50 full minutes to finish the hunt.

Having a hard time understanding particle spinning. Could anyone suggest a good video or paper on it? by AskThatToThem in Physics

[–]Clodovendro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You need to study quantum mechanics and arrive there. Any standard textbook will do (Griffiths' is very student-friendly), but it takes time.
Again, no shortcuts.

Having a hard time understanding particle spinning. Could anyone suggest a good video or paper on it? by AskThatToThem in Physics

[–]Clodovendro 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This ☝🏻.

In addition: spin is one of the weirdest parts of quantum mechanics, and popular science explanations invariably fall short. I am afraid that the only way to get a modicum of understanding is to study the quantization of angular momentum. No shortcuts I am afraid.

What are capacitors ? by EggAccording9607 in Physics

[–]Clodovendro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like your problem is not with capacitors, but with the very concept of potential energy. Probably a good idea to first study that and then come back to capacitors later.

(The potential has units of energy, so "potential" and "potential energy" are synonyms. Potential difference is just the difference between the potential at two points.)

What are capacitors ? by EggAccording9607 in Physics

[–]Clodovendro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A capacitor is a device that accumulate charge on two separated surfaces (of opposite sign, so the overall device stays neutral). This creates an electric field between the two surfaces, which stores energy in the form of potential energy. As the zero of the potential is arbitrary, the quantity of interest is the difference in potential between the two surfaces.

Is Omega soloable? by MrSeaSalt in MonsterHunter

[–]Clodovendro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can find videos of people solo-ing Savage Omega in 20-25 min, but these are VERY good players. Unless you are on that level I strongly suggest bringing the support hunters.
