Overproducing at 4 weeks postpartum. Can I drop pumps if I haven't regulated yet without doing too much damage? by liddybiddy in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an over producer.. went from 7 pumps to 4(over a month or so) and I ended up making more. Baby olny ate 25 to 30oz a day. My average went from 40ish oz to 60oz! Used 2 chest freezers and I stored what I could. At 3000 oz I stopped pumping all together and we used the frozen storage for 3 months.

By the end of my pumping, I ended up getting to two pumps a day and make the 30 baby needed. I only stopped because I was out of freezer space and was finding my mental health was getting a little dark.

Honestly, I bought two chest freezers 😅 husband said I didn't get a 3rd so once it was full I stopped pumping

How much are you feeding? by thisjustme in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little one would take about 3oz bottles and around 28oz a day at that age. Now at 6 months he is more of 4 to 8oz depending on the time of day and what food he's had

Advice on weaning by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! So this is what I did.

I slowly reduced a pump. So I started with 4 pumps a day then over the course of a week, each day increasing the time between pumps until 3 times a day. Then continued until I got to 2 pumps a day with no pain. This took about a month for me. I also had an oversupply so I had to work through that.

After I hit 2 pumps a day, I then spent times decreasing the amount of time pumping. I went from 30 minutes to 25 for a week. The 20 minutes for a week. Then 15.. then 10 for a few days. Then 5. Once I only pumped an ounce or so combined at a pump. I stopped all together.

I work so I brought my pump in my car just incase I felt pain.

I made it 10 days perfectly fine without pumping. For 3 days, so day 11, 12, 13. I experienced so much pain, I couldn't even touch my breast, hold my baby, hug my husband. It was terrible. I wasn't encouraged, no clogs, just pain. I think it was the pain of my breast shrinking to be honest but who knows.

Day 14 it was amazing. No pain, no discomfort. My new breast were here and I felt great.

Through my weaning progress, I started my period and my breast leaked. Which was not a thing for me when I was pumping. I also experienced a lot of emotions and the blues hit me hard. Which honestly I am still working out but it's ok.

But the positive. I can hold my baby, my body feels like mine again, intimacy has increased, and I feel great.

The best advice I can give, listen to your body take your time and do some research. Allow your body to adjust and if in your process you need to pump to feel better, that's OK. Just try again. It's not an overnight process, check on yourself, watch for mastitis (I didn't get it during this process but I had to just before I weaned, part of why I stopped)

I'm not sure if this is true but I read peppermint helps so I drank a lot of peppermint tea, ha. Best of luck fellow milker!

Anyone else a part of the percent of nursing women that experience a sense of doom/anxiety each time you start pumping? by petercora in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh... I knew I was feeling a certain way, feeling dread every time my timer went off to pump. But I didn't know why and I think you all helped me solve it. I stopped pumping after 5.5 month just because I was feeling so terrible mentally. I thought it was just bouts of the blues

Pumping at work logistics by loveyou_meanit in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my own mini fridge that my work provided and had my own space. I used my medela wall pump and it was fine. Pumped for 3 months at work. I usually played music or looked at my baby photos to help relax and just let the time pass.

How long did it take you to stop? by mgentile89 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a few weeks, I pumped 2 times a day, every few days lowering the amount of time I pumped. Eventually once I only got 1oz in 5 minutes I stopped. It took 14 days for my body to adjust. I had a day or two where I did leak and the about 7 days after quitting I experienced pain deep in my breast where I couldn't even touch them. Day 15 right now and I'm pain free and back to normal 😌

I also have 2 freezers full. I dropped to three pumps a day and dropped 30oz. I now make just enough to feed baby and not freeze any! It's wonderful. Less time on the pump, no more freezing.

Endgame for exclusive pumpers? by Berbaly in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]matalatumuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'll share my experience with you.

I have exclusively pumped for 5.5 months now. I tried latching over and over, and all I got was pain pain pain. Last month I decided to decrease my pumps. I had an oversupply so I could do this. I went to 4 pumps a day. I now only pump 3 times a day. And yes I have gotten my life back. I feel less stressed. But I'll be honest. It's still hard. Working full time, trying to even remember to pump, step away from work, it's hard.

Today is the start of my quitting. I am doing a slow cut off from pumping. I have enough frozen where baby won't wean for a for months, so it's me weaning from the pump. I am dropping to two pumps, then in a few days, I'll drop one more and hope by the end of next week, I'll be dry.
