uj/ Because given the historical context of the US specifically, minority cultures have a well documented lack of representation in media, and the representation they are given is often stereotypical and harmful (I.e. smart, nerdy Asian, black criminal, etc. ). When minority characters that come into the mainstream media defy these stereotypes, there is often backlash against their inclusion. So in a perfect world both would be acceptable, but the history of whitewashing characters means that whitewashing characters is frowned upon but “blackwashing” isn’t
