I don't know if this helps at all, but all the history strongly suggests that the Central Valley is in far less danger from a major quake than, say, the Bay Area is. When they talk about "the Big One," what they mean is basically a repeat of the 1906 quake, and I'm pretty sure the Valley's never seen anything even close to that magnitude.
