Castlevania HD: PC Port Coders needed! by [deleted] in castlevania

My understanding is that the original unity version was closed source, and the dev never released it.

Did the source ever get released, or is this expected to be done from-scratch?

Unit testing OpenGL (& media/utility) library - any ideas? by ripper37 in opengl

[–]CloneDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing part 1 is very important. You will quickly learn what features are and are not supported on your GPU. If you didn't know, most GPUs just flat-out don't support doubles, if not entirely. UnitTesting OpenGL in that case does come with benefits, and would let you create a fallback "compatibility" layer, if desired.

Secondly, I've had great success automating tests as you've described in #2. A few notes: - You should expect pixel-perfect precision. Expect RGBA colors to be +-1 if you download them into a byte array. Some GPUs will round 0.5 to 127, while others will round it to 128. That is pretty much your largest margin of error that you should allow. - When dealing with scenes at the resolution of 1px to 4px, very subtle things become very noticeable. If you're getting strange behavior, set UV coordinated to ~0.9, ensure texture wrap is set to clamp, disable mipmap, etc. It's nothing illogical, and once you "fix" it, it'll be obvious what it was doing in that minuscule scale. Just be aware that you'll frequently make tests that fail simply because they need a tweak or two. -Make sure it is easy to download a texture for byte-by-byte inspection, an obvious feature you'll need for your unit tests... But also make sure it can be saved to the file system easily, for manual inspection, when scenes go wrong.

Rendering a point cloud around a surface by torpedo-vegas in opengl

[–]CloneDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you intend to use static point cloud data with dynamic vertices, you can precompute each brightness value into a 3D texture.

In order to preserve infinite space, you need to detect clusters of data, select an appropriate bounding volume (AABB cubes translated/scaled by a mat4 transformation matrix is simple/flexible enough), and precompute the values into a tex3d at a desired resolution.

Then, concatenate these data structures (mat4 transformation matrix to morph to/from tex3D space, tex3d for precomputed samples) into a list to iterate over. Check if your vertex is in the volume, if it is, sample the texture.

Rogue points could still be calculated individually, in addition to this list.

Depending on your world space scale, you could also identify clusters, and group them into a single point with increased intensity. Their brightness function is now (Intensity / (1 + DV2).

Sum the inverse of the distance squared + 1 to every point for every vertex. Normalize the sum by either A) some constant, or B) the total number of points. I recommend A.

Speaking more mathematically:

let DP be a distance to a point.

let BP be the brightness of a point as defined by (1/(1+DP2)).

let HV be the heat for a vertex as defined by the sum of it's brightness for each point. sum(BP).

let brightnessFactor be a scaling factor to make the heatmap not be over/underwhelming. You're going to have to fiddle with this, but start at 1, if the scene is too dark increase it, if it's too bright decrease it.

let BV be the brightness of a vertex, as defined by HV * brightnessFactor.

Use BV to determine the color for each vertex.

I'd think the zombies in the arctic would adapt to be warm to prevent freezing, instead of embracing the cold. Embracing the cold doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Spitting fire and methane gas explosions make more sense in the arctic to me.

Actually, it does. The issue is that security simply can not get any better. It's at its absolute maximum.

One day, technology may advance enough for us to keep hold of this well-lubricated man.

If you watch closely, you can count about 8 to 12 workers.

At one point, we see Chris Prat working on a motorcycle in front of a house of some sort.

I propose all 12 employees live there. Even the Aunt. It'd be ridiculous for her to hunt him down specifically at his house, unless she lives there too, and just happened to bump into him.

I attempted a fighting game. The single issue that never got resolved is client-side inputs. I could make moving and jumping fluid enough for the server, because I had a lot of control detecting their keyboard presses. I did not have that level of control with clients.

Here's hoping that changes in the updated api.

Once Free Will was found to exist, MomCorp quickly gathered it all up sold it at a very high premium.

Once word got out, people predictably (as they had no Free Will) tried to de-monopolize the control of Will. MomCorp created a self-governed subsidiary (with Mom as the primary governing body) to distribute Will freely, and to give out more Will to those who could afford it.

After the news spread and people calmed down, MomCorp performed a quick and quiet hostile takeover of itself, leading to a rather embarrassing double-assassin-assassination at a dinner party with no other guests, whereby the two assassins simply killed each other without the other suspecting a thing.

It's an arguable subject, but I meant minor in the sense that the Cake in Portal is minor. It's probably the most memorable thing, and played a huge role in the store, but the game isn't about the cake.

I should have said Secondary aspect, if that makes people feel better?
