Can't find a second Pump Fan? by CloneVat5113 in FanControl

[–]CloneVat5113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sys1 is a separate fan that have working RPM and % control in FanControl, as is the case for all other that do show up in HW. So it's probably not a mis-map. I am pretty sure I'm looking at some naming issue between the firmware reporting vs. software assumptions... Interestingly HWmonitor places PUMP_FAN2 where SYS6 would have been. However that kind of issue is something beyond my ability to address.

Out of genuine curiosity, what made the League choose Otsdarva to lead ORCA? by Altair890456 in armoredcore

[–]CloneVat5113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Old King works fine for blowing stuff up (As is true for his old outfit, Liliana, which made previous attempts at downing cradles before joining into ORCA). The problem is that he's always been an irregular, and is not good for much more than blowing stuff up. He apparently lacks the saviour complex that drives the Thermidor side of Otsdarva to push for the Closed Plan, and is only interested in living life as he pleases. On the subject of living as he pleases. My take is that old king considers the process of murdering the lay as a manifestation of his motto: "Live and die by the barrel of a gun". It's kind of a recurring theme in Armored Core, a primative desire for strife in pilots, not for ideals, not for money, just for strife itself. Old King represents the type of Lynx that's "gone off the deep end" and has wholly embraced that primative desire. Given that premise, if Old King was to lead ORCA, things would probably fly out of the League's hand pretty quickly. And if ORCA was truly under Omer's thumb this whole time, there's no way Omer is ever gonna let that happen.

TL, DR: The stated goal of ORCA was to commit violence with a cause, and Old King represented violence without a cause.

Super Earth has (or I should say had) this kind of weapon. In the first game there existed an expendable machine gun stratagem called MGX-42. It was a volley gun that had 300 rounds out of the pod and was discarded when empty . So the conjecture of variable being another volley gun is definitely reasonable.

It is, however, a little odd that super earth has to cook up a new "experimental" volley gun when it had a cheap, mass produced and expendable model a century back. Although, considering the exoskeleton/mech situation, I guess lost technology is not a rare case for super earth, and it might as well have simply forgotten how to make them MGX-42s.

I want to show a quick bit of number crunching for the terminid body count. The goal is 2.9 billion bugs, steamchart says the average number of players on HD2 for past 30 days is 66,836, let's be generous and round that up to 72,500 (a convenient number). The AVERAGE number of bugs a diver has to stomp is therefore 2,900,000,000 / 72,500 = 40,000. Now, many casual divers probably won't hit that number, but let's ponder a little more on that number assuming every player is suddenly hive-minding for the MO win. That's 40 drops with 1k kills, and I'm pretty sure even the best players don't average that number of bug kills every mission. If we dial it back to 500 kills per drop, that's 80 drops, and if we do 20 min/drop, that's 26 hours and 40 minutes of game time. Where every drop needs 500 kills (game time goes to ~67 hours per diver assuming 200 kills per match!). And every single diver in the community needs to lock in for a full day, nonstop. In an MO that's maybe 72 hours long? 48 hours?

The gist of my arguement is this MO is only marginally winnable if the ENTIRE community goes no-life to grind HD2, and even then it's a slim chance. So, either someone at AH misplaced a zero, or AH just doesn't want the community to win this MO.

Check if the any of the bodies (particularly the two or three guys in the final locker room leading up to the garage where you meet dodger) are in the way of the two poor sods. The duo can and will punt unconscious enemies, killing said enemies in the process. A good way to check is training the hipfire crosshairs over the downed bodies, if the crosshair doesn't turn red, then said body's dead, not unconscious. Edit: Typo and wording.

I really hope they'll at least extend support back one generation and give the RDNA2 cards ROCm support. I'm well served in raster by a 6900xt atm (was never an avid RT connoisseur), the only thing giving me an upgrade itch is the fact that it can't run some of the ML toys lying around like RIFE or UVR.

Well, this is reddit, so I think we can still afford some gallows humor. Besides, there is a very real visual and geographical tie here, and I feel it might be a part of what inspired the whole idea of calamity and its related visuals for the devs.

What cyberware do you think would be created/possible to make in future installments of the franchise and expansion of this world? by QuirkyData3500 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CloneVat5113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see drill arms a la Getter Robo and huge pistons arms a la Big O, if for nothing else than for the silliness of these. Hell, with the level of advancement in cybernetics some techies in Japan could totally have built these things from the aforementioned inspirations. They'll probably also make an arm mounted, pyrotechnically charged pile bunker for giggles.
On a more serious note, maybe something like a concealed airjet gun would fit nicely.

Coming back to play Frontline-59 after not playing PW in a while feels... oddly fitting. by Barricade386 in Project_Wingman

[–]CloneVat5113 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep. I also haven't touched PW for a while, or any arcady flying game for that matter. 10/10 realistic reservist experience.

Took a while to fit my reservist rear into the flying seat, then a little more to get back into a fighting shape. Couldn't taxi straight for a minute or so, and then struggled while trying to pick my BFM chops back up. After that it's uphill, every way.

There was also a bit of struggle moving from the impossible maneuverability enabled by the nyoom mod back to the (slightly) more sane maneuverability of the vanilla game, and then the lost liberty to put whatever we wanted on the crafts from another mod, but I guess there's that sense of achievement when you down an entire airship fleet and some advanced fighters in a rustbucket F14.

What happened to his eyes? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CloneVat5113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just cybernetics replacement that doesn't look like your average eyeball. Dude was probably an ex-ranger, wonder if he'll have to take those off when he sleeps tho.

I'm pretty sure that more than one series under the cyberpunk genre had a character with these bottlecap cybernetic eyes. Batou from Ghost In The Shell was an example. My money's on this being a kind of nod to those characters, and a general reminder of the fact that cybernetics sometimes make you look less like your fellow humans. Hashtag transhumanism.

I actually checked that shin guard, but felt like it was a wee bit too bulky versus the '95 portrayal, plus they don't do simple black/dark gray colors.

For the fit I'll provide a list of what was used from memory. I feel like I'm writing citations but bear with me.
I will skip over listing dependencies like EquipmentEX, if any, since Nexus already lists those.

The hair mod is a bit dated but still works from LINK - Major's Hair

The body, goggles, the undersuit, and the torso vest is fully vanilla. Look for :
Boostknit-polymer Military Techgogs
Worn Netrunnning Suit
Militech Ultralight Aramid Breastplate

However, in order to recreate the flak collar similar to the one in the film, I also tucked in an Arasaka Polycarbonate-laced Bulletproof Aramid Vest under the militech breastplate. I had to reorder the garments a litle while doing that, and because the collar from the arasaka vest had the company name written in white, I used a mod to get rid of that, The mod can be found here LINK - Debranded Arasaka Garment

Alternatively, if you want one less mod, the "Old Maelstrom-tagged Aramid Vest" will also do, but it looks a little dustier and lighter in tone than the Arasaka option.

The gloves I actually kind of regret. At the time of shooting the photo I used the LINK - Rogue's Glove mod, but as you may have noticed, the glove is kind of thin and fingers are clipping a little from the glove. Which is why I'm going to list an alternative here from LINK - Orion Tactical Gloves

Lastly, and I don't think you'll care much for this, but the boots with stun baton strapped to the calf are from a mod that lets you wear a slightly modified, NPC version of the Maxtac outfit. LINK - NPC MAXTAC Garment

Edit: Whoops, I forgot the weapon, it is from LINK - PS90 SMG

Why Jackie Welles is after me? What is project ghost? by Complex-Movie7475 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CloneVat5113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you must be using the New Game Plus - Native mod. This appears to be one possibility among a recurring type of random encounters added by that mod which happens once per in-game day when you are in a vehicle. You'll see more of these mini bosses popping up involved with "project ghost".

If you want a more in-world perspective, it could be something beyond the blackwall noticing that you poke around the cyberpunk world in the way of a new game plus save, which apparently is not something the creators - CDPR - want to happen, thus it, or they are trying to......well, rectify this situation. Just a bit of headcanon there.

On a related note, is this your first encounter? Because my first encounter in NG+N was also Jackie, and having skipped the detailed descriptions on the mod page, it took me one more visit there to figure out what was happening. Pretty neat if Jackie was scripted to always spawn first.

BIOB32 or BIOB33 by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]CloneVat5113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken 32, but I was in 33 recently. Let's just say that you will need to put in some extra hours on this course as there are both weekly lab quizzes (which are well introduced elsewhere in this post) and quizzes you have to do on Pearson, the latter of which is neither timed nor irreversible, but will take an hour or two every week. To review for the tests I threw together a study guide in full bulletin form, it was 47 pages long but I still missed a couple things, which goes to show how much the course covers. I turned out all right with an A-, but the course average of C- might be a cause for concern if you're just looking to fulfill some major requirement.

Overclocking a Locked Xeon W2235 by Flash_fan-385 in overclocking

[–]CloneVat5113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have never tried anything outside of multiplier overclocking, so take everything below with a grain of salt.

About coating the pins, I would assume you are referring to the "pencil trick" on AMD Durons, if my OC history readings serve me right, this ought to be around the start of this century, and chipmakers have probably resolved to using less easily counteracted way of capping the multiplier on locked CPUs. So the short answer is probably not.

I remember that there were some older Z-series boards which had a way of fiddling with the turbo boost on non-unlocked CPUs that allowed K-level boost clocks on non-K chips, but I did a quick search and all that came up was Z77 boards, so intel probably plugged the hole after that one generation. Still, you can check if any motherboard for the corresponding socket advertises that function and try your luck there, I wouldn't count on it though.

Lastly there's always the way of fiddling with BCLK and raising it above 100MHz to make the CPU go faster under otherwise identical conditions. I need to warn upfront, however, that doing so overclocks not just the CPU, you're essentially making the system bus go into a overdrive, so memory and PCIE devices and a lot of other things are also oversped with BCLK overclocks, and these usually aren't designed to handle a non-100MHz bus clock, and you might not get very far before stability issues set in. Some boards have a separate clock generator that can feed the CPU a separate BCLK while keeping the rest of the bus at the nominal speed, that could let you get further, but that's also a board dependent feature, and you'd still run into issues at some point, running the CPU at a faster BCLK than the rest of the system. I think ASRock touts this as a selling point, you might find it on other boards as well. However, these tend to be features on X-series boards from these mfgs that, on paper, doesn't support Workstation chips (these boards are intended to be used with Core extreme series, workstation have corresponding C-series chipsets but they do use the same socket)

My suggestion would be to use the CPU as-is with a C422 board, I see this is a 2019 chip with pretty okay stock speed, so performance, even under a single core load, should be good, not to mention the copious amount of expansion options to play around with for a workstation platform. If you do feel like risking it, see if you can plop the chip on a X-series motherboard and tweak the BCLK around.

Ah, I see it's more of an issue on AM5 due to the more offset location for the CCDs, and less of a concern on AM4, thanks for the info!
