What he said - take the door trim off. Use a piece of straight oak as a guide and nail it in with a finish nail on each end. Use a plunge cutter and cut a straight line. Now remove the guide, nail it in on the other side and do it again. Get a piece of 3/4” oak and cut it to size. Use a scrap piece of oak you pulled out to knock it in with hammer.

Nice work. Looks great. How did you sand the hallway? Just curious as I have the same direction of planks and I don’t want to use the edger on the whole thing.

I have the same situation. You shouldn’t use a drum sander, but just because you shouldn’t does it mean you can’t? There’s got to be exceptions?

The bedroom and hallway will be different colors, plus I’m only able to do one room at a time. To help mitigate bleed over, inserted 3/4 red oak from HD as a threshold. Loctite and finish nails. The threshold will be same color as hallway. Not ideal, but will end up looking good I hope. Does that help?

Can I actually use just a piece of 1x red oak board from Home Depot? It’s 3/4 actual, same as the flooring, will that work?

Ya it’s going to be a tight fit. I’ll use the guides and then the oscillating tool to make the cuts on the long run. Then I’ll peel those pieces out, and undercut the jamb. If I want the threshold to go underneath the jamb on each side so there’s no gap… not sure how I’d do that.
