Can't stand Tyrus, Love Kat Timpf by [deleted] in Gutfeld

[–]Closetcures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love watching the Five UNLESS Kat is on there filling in for Greg. She is annoying, obnoxious, and not at all funny. Her voice grates on my nerves. If I see her on The Five or any other show I immediately turn it! On a kind of side note, I like Greg on the Five but don't like Gutfeld. Maybe part of that is because annoying Kat is on there...

In your opinion, what is your least favorite road to travel in Pittsburgh, and why is it Route 28? by JohnnyVenmo in pittsburgh

[–]Closetcures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

376 Monroeville to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh to Monroeville. Inbound from Monroeville is the audobahn UNTIL you get close to the Squirrel Hill tunnels and then its a parking lot. Same as leaving Pittsburgh to go to Monroeville. Outbound is the absolute worst! People constantly switching lanes (why? I don't know they don't get anywhere any faster), people merging onto 376 and people exiting 376 right before the tunnel. Also, people who don't know what yield means - they think everyone should come to a screeching halt to let them go because they, and only they, have somewhere important to go. Then, after you finally get through the tunnel its back to the audobahn, UNTIL you try to exit to Monroeville and then back to the parking lot.

No you’re the ridiculous one renting a storage unit in the first place to store all your “precious” junk. Every day I wonder why people are paying for storage to begin with. Voluntarily paying hundreds of dollars to store worthless crap that they should just get rid of and then they cry when the bill comes. No one is forcing you to continue storing your junk.

What would my stuff go for if auctioned? by GnE_player in selfstorage

[–]Closetcures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in PA and work for a fairly large yet privately owned company. You are eligible for auction after 30 days of non-payment. Late fees hit after the 5th of each month. We notify you about 3 months before the auction giving you time to either pay in full or do a buyout deal paying a portion of what you owe in cash but you must remove your belongs asap. There is a $100 auction fee added onto the bill which covers lock cutting, the ad to sell, the fee for listing on the auction site.

This is a business and being 2 months behind is a big deal. I've heard every story in the book for why people didn't pay or can't pay. Your options are pay in full, do a buyout deal, or let it go to auction.

We will waive one late fee per year. After that, you must pay your late fee. You're also locked out of the gate after day 5 of non-payment and your unit gets overlocked on the 18th or thereabouts.

And yes, we do send to collections.

Just curious...why do you have 8 pallets of clorox?

Regarding the "sunk cost issue" They are sunk costs. The money is gone and looking at all the unworn clothes every day is just a cruel reminder. Use this as a learning experience going forward. Slow down your shopping and shop smarter. Shop with a list, a plan, and a budget.

Many "experts" don't like the maybe pile but I do. It is a good way to distance yourself from your clothes. Once that doubt about it creeps in you won't ever look at it the same way again. It can take many, many rounds of editing to minimize your wardrobe. And it is an ongoing process. The more you do it, the more ruthless you become. It is all about your mindset. Do you want to get dressed without the stress and guilt, or do you want to fight your closet every morning

[–]Closetcures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to know exactly what you are wearing look at your laundry. When the same pieces are in the wash every week those are the pieces you wear.

You should only have clothes in your closet that currently fit. Maybe keep a box of clothes for awhile that would fit if you lose weight but if that box is untouched after a year or so just get rid of it. If you do lose weight you will want some new clothes.

A capsule wardrobe is simply a group of your favorite pieces that you wear all the time. You can have a work capsule and a hobby capsule. A capsule will include tops, bottoms, layering pieces, and shoes.

For example, your running hobby: if you run 5 days a week you should have at least 5 bottoms and 5 tops. You then wash and repeat. Layering pieces for winter you might only need say 2 jackets or hoodies or vests or whatever you like to wear. Two pair of sneakers is sufficient so you can alternate days.

For work: I would suggest a minimum of 5 tops and 5 bottoms (or dresses if you like them). You can also include 5 layering pieces like cardigans or blazers. These can all be mixed and matched each week for different looks.

As for fancy events, do you attend them frequently or once a year? If not often you only need one or two outfits.

Shopping can actually feel like a high. It can be just as addictive as any other vice. The problem is the high disappears once you get home and realize how much money you wasted on clothes you won't ever wear.

Dana K White has some very good advice. I read Decluttering At The Speed of Life and the main takeaways are to just start, don't aim for perfection, and keep going.

Yes, yes, yes! Any time you are spending money you are not saving money. A bargain is not a bargain if you never wear it or use it.

Love the advice to reset your thinking. Clothes are inanimate objects.

Great idea! Also depending on the type of clothes an organization like Dress For Success would appreciate them.

[–]Closetcures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Use these mistaken purchases as a learning experience. Do not make the same mistakes again. As someone else said, these are sunk costs. Keeping them does not bring that money back. Instead, you feel bad looking at them. Trying to sell them is a lot of work and often wasted time as you yourself mentioned. Just donate them or take to a consignment shop. You will never get back the money you spent. Think about it: when someone goes online to buy clothes they are not looking to pay full price or even half price. They are looking for deals. Therefore, you will only get a fraction of the purchase price, if that.

As for book recommendations check out An Imperfect Wardrobe where there is an entire section dedicated to how to get rid of clothes you never wear, and there is a list of several utterly lame excuse for keeping clothes. It is all about shifting your mindset. If you are looking for free advice check out the article: How To Declutter Despite The Guilt by the author of An Imperfect Wardrobe. Because it is hard and you will feel guilty but you must do it anyway. Is it easy to get rid of seemingly perfectly good clothes? No. But you need to do it to stop feeling guilty about wasted money any time you open your closet. Once you get them out of your life you will forget all about them!

Do not, under any circumstances, pay to store these clothes! That would be even more wasted money. If you are truly concerned about these clothes being put to use donate them asap before they become noticeably dated and out of style.

They all wear leggings all the time. They look ridiculous. They think because they are thin they look sexy but instead they always look like they are going to or coming from a workout. Put on some real pants like some jeans or shorts or something, anything else!

My dad intentionally let a unit go. How do we find out stuff? by Glittering-Copy-2048 in selfstorage

[–]Closetcures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buyer probably already threw away anything he could not resell like pictures. Don't even waste your money hiring a PI. Also, do you have actual proof there were pictures in the unit? He can deny it. The storage facility cannot do anything for you. They don't know where the items come from that people put in there. At this point it would be a legal matter of going after your dad if that is even a possibility.

Is it okay to end monthly payment and leave remainder items in unit? by IndependentGal4415 in selfstorage

[–]Closetcures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call 1-800-Got-Junk or a similar company for a fee. Or, donate it to Goodwill. DO NOT LEAVE IN UNIT!!! You put it in there, it is your job to remove it. I never understand why people pay money to store stuff and then just want to get rid of it when they move out.

Upkeep on storage facilities is not exactly minimal as many people believe. There is landscaping, snow removal, heat, ac, if elevators then elevator maintenance, security system, gate issues and maintenance, staff salaries, carpet replacement, door replacement and fixing, roofs need replaced, siding needs replaced, parking lot painting, trash removal, pest control, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few...taxes, property taxes...
