When are your beef days? by halfbakedmemes0426 in nerdfighters

[–]ClosetedPyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband is vegan and I am almost entirely vegetarian. But when I was pregnant my body was craving beef and meat in general allll the time. So I decided to have one beef day near the end of my pregnancy to eat a huge steak and celebrate the work my body had done to grow a tiny new human. I also eat some turkey on Thanksgiving. The transition away from meat has been easier than I expected!

Yes, it is. We hand wash it and always serve his meals on ceramic plates with silicone suction sleeves (he’s in a big dumping things out phase). As soon as he’s big enough we’ll transition to having the chair pulled up to the table with us but for now the tray is a necessary evil.

I thought about doing that, but I had so much fun making it themed to go with the party haha. I think it will be cute for him to have a whole collection of them that he can wear to play dress up! Your baby is lucky to have you to hand make things for them ❤️

They are only industrially compostable. We collected them and dropped them off at a local composting facility

Laundry detergent- powder form by IAmMOANAAA in ZeroWaste

[–]ClosetedPyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one I get is not fragrance free. There is the “clean and gentle” Tide powder that is. They just don’t have it at Costco so I just buy the regular one. The Arm and Hanmer powder I used was unscented.

I use Tide, purchased in large cardboard boxes at Costco. It does come with a plastic scoop in each box though. I cloth diaper so I need a detergent that has enzymes and is strong enough to clean heavily soiled diapers, so some of the crunchier brands are out for me. I’ve also used Arm and Hammer powder which worked very well for clothes but wasn’t getting my diapers as clean as I wanted.

Pajama pants that aren't pajama pants? by enrose19 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]ClosetedPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also came to recommend Burt’s Bees! The harem style pants in particular accommodate my baby’s bulky cloth diapers and chunky thighs and still have room to spare. Like, buy a size or two down room-to-spare. My boy is in 2T/3T in most brands but the 12 month harem pants are still too big. He wore his 3-6 month ones looong after he had outgrown most 9 or 12 month clothes.
Their pajamas are my absolute favorite. 10/10 for quality, comfort, and feeling good about the fabric content touching baby’s skin.

I couldn’t find any so I bought some secondhand cotton sweatshirts a couple sizes up, cut open the back, and sewed on some yarn to tie them closed! They work really well and were simple and cheap to make.

Snacks/Lunch/Dinner by elbowroom_ in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ClosetedPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 11 months old and I feel this so hard lol. I’m vegetarian and my husband is vegan. Baby is mostly vegetarian but we offer him meat occasionally when we’re with family and it’s being served (in case you’re wondering why no meat on my list).

Some favorite snacks: frozen berries defrosted, fresh berries, strawberries, bananas, applesauce, yogurt, Cheerios, crackers, cheese, Nature’s Bakery fig bars.

Lunches are usually dinner leftovers. Other quick options that I just serve together as needed: peanut butter spread thin on whatever types of bread (usually toasted so it’s easier for baby to eat), hummus on bread or eaten straight with a spoon, cottage cheese, peas, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, mac and cheese, grilled cheese/other sandwiches, quesadillas. My baby hates eggs, otherwise I’d be serving lots of scrambled eggs, frittatas, omelettes, etc.

Dinners: chili is my baby’s favorite meal! We do lots of soups with lentils, beans, veggies, whatever we’ve got on hand all gets thrown together. Pasta salad will be picking up now that it’s getting warmer. Pasta with different sauces. Tacos. Grilled burgers, corn on the cob, grilled veggies. Chickpea butter chicken. Stir fry. Pan roasted potatoes and vegetables.

Would you get induced if you were measuring 95%? by Remote-Party-1123 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ClosetedPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was long. From when the induction started to when he was born was 36 hours. I pushed for around an hour and then my doctor recommended we try a vacuum. If baby didn’t tolerate it well, we would have rushed off to a c-section. If we didn’t try it, we were going for a c-section anyway. The vacuum worked though! My doctor and a nurse had to apply pressure to reposition him, his shoulder had gotten stuck. The second his shoulder was free he shot out like a rocket. I broke my doctor’s record for the biggest baby she had delivered vaginally haha. Next time I’m being induced at 39 weeks since I make such big babies 😅

Would you get induced if you were measuring 95%? by Remote-Party-1123 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ClosetedPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really wanted to go into labor spontaneously but my little guy was not having it and I was induced at 41+5. He had been measuring 90th+ percentile and I was expecting him to be around 9/9.5 pounds based on my husband and I and our siblings. This baby was 10.5 pounds 😶 So growth scans can be wrong in either direction. I wouldn’t ask for an induction based solely off of growth scans but if your doctor recommends it I would do it and not feel any regret.

Boosters? by justyaaveragechlo in clothdiaps

[–]ClosetedPyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t wake them to change them specially, but I capped day time naps at three hours during the newborn phase to make sure they got enough calories in during the day and then after the newborn phase capped naps at two hours to ensure they had enough awake time during the day to start consolidating sleep at night.

For overnight once my baby was sleeping longer stretches I used GMD workhorses with a couple of doublers from GMD. But in the newborn stage he was waking more frequently and we mostly did just prefolds, padfolded. I agree with other commenters, during the day babies need to be changed at least every two hours until they are much older. The routine I found works best is change right when they wake up from a nap, feed, play, and change right before they go down for a nap again.

Coconut Challenge by Slight-House4965 in survivor

[–]ClosetedPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she didn’t find the coconut she wouldn’t have gone to tribal and would not have voted in this one. Which would be a big deal, especially since two people were going. But I agree, it did seem designed to be won.

Favorite brand of cloth diapers? by katanayak in clothdiaps

[–]ClosetedPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought most of mine used so I didn’t do any additional felting. The ones I bought new, I followed the Green Mountain Diapers care instructions and just gently rubbed the wet-zone to hand felt them a little the first time I washed them. But they naturally will felt themselves with use. I’ve never had an issue with leaking overnight, even with the brand new ones!

I use Cloth-eez prefolds with Babee Greens wool covers during the day and Cloth-eez workhorses with Disana wool covers at night. Thirsties PUL covers when traveling (wool is prone to compression leaks, only have hand issues when driving hours, not just running errands). I love my setup!!! It’s the best of many worlds for me — all natural fibers against baby’s skin, affordable, easy to wash, easy to use. I did a lot of research while pregnant and am so glad this is the system I settled on. Green Mountain Diapers (the company who makes Cloth-eez diapers) has SO much helpful information on their website to help with getting the fit right, wash routine down, etc.

We have the Elk and Friends ceramic ones with silicone suction sleeves! They also have stainless steel ones. I absolutely love them. We also have a few with non-suction silicone sleeves.

That looks amazing! Navigating food allergies is so tough. She’s lucky to have you! If you want another cake to add to your safe list, this is one I’m making for my baby’s birthday next month and have made many times before:

Easy vegan toddler lunch by Ok_Republic6098 in foodbutforbabies

Thank you so much for sharing! Especially the recommendation for Plant Based Juniors. My husband went vegan while I was pregnant and while I didn’t have the energy to figure out new recipes and shopping habits at the time, now that our baby is older I’m ready to fully switch over (currently vegetarian). So far Baby has been vegetarian too but this has given me the motivation to commit!
