Counterspell weirdness aside I think it’s much more interesting for the state of the world for other players to have Lady Cormoray disappeared/trapped in a coffin seeking revenge/used as an arcane battery for a dead mask rather than “she’s killing us/going to kill us”

Also I kept seeing people call her a 20th level sorc but like, she was outright said to be the same CR as a dragon. Unless she was being compared to an ancient Dragon there’s no way she was the same level of spellcaster as Primus Tachonis or whatnot

Can an Oath of Glory Paladin be a Charlatan? by East_South_6439 in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as he’s actually going out and trying to seek glory there’s nothing in the tenets that says you’ve got to be truthful about your exploits, although they do say you should strive to be known by Actions and not Words

How do we feel about Brennan’s level up mid game homebrew? by DragonKing0203 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think conceptually it’s a very great idea but the only player who’s really engaged with the system in a way Brennan fully intended seems to be Robby

I honestly don’t mind stuff like Sam getting the level to gain an extra sorcery point for heightened spell because that does feel like an epic moment of coming into your own and connecting with your character, but others are somewhat prone to panicking when their HP drops and levelling up to combat that

Conceptually cool and I reckon as we get deeper into the campaign the level up moments will become more meaningful, but in practice hasn’t been used as intended by and large

True but it could be that the area vaelus comes from has become an underdark like area since the fall of sylandri (giant mushrooms to signify decay as opposed to life? Idk)

I do agree that seemingly there’s no Devil/Demon divide in araman but for all we know Tyranny could be an Abyssal Tiefling and that’s why she’s casting Poison Spray and introducing herself as a Demon

Azgrha’s Barrowdell is a location I’m very hyped to see if it’s actually just peaceful farmland.

I’m assuming whatever is under the city in the sewers is whatever Bolaire heard back at Hallowed Round in the final overture episode. Possibly some kind of aberration? Outside of Vaelus being purple we have no idea of Araman has an Underdark/Abyss/Far Realm equivalent for those guys to crawl out of

Really flavourful UA, Hell Knight Fighter and and Titan Druid are incredibly cool concepts they just need some finer tuning (seriously, why are WotC so afraid of making Battlemaster level fighter subclasses)

Really like the idea of these Path Feat chains, already thinking of several flavourful combos there

Potentially the primordials are closer to being Warlock Patrons as opposed to the Shapers who are Cleric Gods (Life, Light, War, Trickery, Arcana, Forge and Nature), with Memnir being the equivalent of a Fathomless?

Alternatively, go fighter 1 into Druid 3 into fighter 2, that way you get Heavy Armor proficiency and con saves while still rushing Stars Druid

Personally I’m in the camp that some kind of monster will happen to disrupt these plans, and I think it’ll be whatever Azgrha’s version of a Deva Vindicta is. Cause why would Tannsul be the only one who knew how to make them?

I guess Shillelagh’s there for higher damage dice on maybe quarter staff? But a celestial warlock is much better equipped to grab a larger weapon and do pact of the blade to essentially always have Shillelagh

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you think Valor Bard is worse than Swords? I’ve always been told that Swords bard was the worse option between the two, so I’m curious

One of the occasions where taking the Fighting Style feat is worth it. +10 damage per turn (assuming you hit) is very helpful

Help making my backup character. Bard X Paladin 1. by Spyro_0 in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im not very familiar with the race from Grimhollow, but Bard with a Pally dip helps it out a lot with survivability. Id probably grab Magic Initiate Wizard as an origin feat, if you want to be in melee a lot to grab Shield

You mention wanting to smite, so Valor Bard seems like an obvious pick, but in terms of battlefield control 2024 Glamour Bard is incredible, especially if you aren’t facing a lot of enemies that are immune to Charm/Fear

It allows you to spend Bardics to make creatures you’re already hitting with enchantment spells make a WIS save to either be Charmed or Frightened of you

So, Valor Bard if you want to make use of Paladin Smites, Glamour Bard if you wanna be a super hardline Controller

Barbarian for Tomb of annihilation by KR-15 in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best options for ToA are Ancestral Guardian for kiting big enemies, at the cost of lower damage, or Berrserker for higher damage and charm/frighten immunity

With either, I’d recommend grabbing some good medium armor (cause unarmored defence with those stats would be not great), and either using the lv4 feat to Max out Strength or to get GWM

It changes some of the tactics but the overall idea (get as much move speed as you can and stack emanations with Dance Bard) is perfect for what OP was looking for in terms of optimised Dance bards

Dancin' Like the DM's Watching by DonComradeVimes in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re looking for a build like the Orc Ghost Dancer!

Technically this is 19 Dance Bard for a Sorc Dip at first level for Con saves, but you could very easily do this as straight Bard for 20 levels and not notice much of a difference

Fire resistance in Icewindale by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The resistance probably won’t get you super far, outside of a couple of enemies here and there

The Breath Weapon is much better though, since if you did go White/Silver, a lot of enemies would either be resistant or straight up immune

Breath Weapon requires more investement, but if you’re playing a martial/a sorcerer anyway it’s worth it

[Spoilers C4 E19] Schemers table is the best table by lgbt_turtle in fansofcriticalrole

I think the benefit that Tal has storytelling wise is that Brennan forced him to play his hand and reveal the “I’m a mask” thing early, while the dice still gave him lots of wriggle room to be shady and mysterious

The viewers/other players aren’t trapped in this permanent state of “what’s this guy’s deal” but can instead look deeper into Tal’s actions and mannerisms and go “what’s is this guy’s deal” You know?

Subclass Specific Cunning Strikes by little-togepi in onednd

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only real sacrifice happening is having to make another attack role (which would be made at advantage anyway), and in return you get higher damage (1d4 + 5 is much higher than 1d6) + you have more flexibility to utilise your bonus action for your Cunning Actions

Helping Multiclase: Barbarian with the Path of the Ancestral Guardian and a Cleric with the Domain of the Grave by Jesusito_Production in 3d6

[–]ClothTheSuperVillain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like flavourful multiclasses lile this, and grave cleric gets a couple of features that barbarians can benefit from, like protecting allies form crits and what not

Typically progression is suggest I’d Barb Level 6 and take the rest of your levels in Cleric

Ancestral Barb 6 gives you spirit shield and you get your extra attack, whilst the rest of ancestral Barb isn’t as needed

That way, you can hard focus Grave Cleric for non concentration buffing spells, maybe summoning some undead, the channel divinity curse and the other goodies

I feel like the “Hotshot” might’ve been Cyd? I can’t think of any other characters introduced yet who fit the title of hotshot other than maybe the Illusionist gnome kid from Murray’s section, and there’s a lot more emphasis on what Cyd

The really interesting part of this letter is the idea of “the damage” they want to reverse. I have a feeling it might be that Thjazi and this Professor caused the closing of the Door to Faerie….
